Finally Bought My Z!
Simple Green works great on chrome, read the instructions for what NOT to use it on. Then a little chrome polish to protect it. For cleaning the drain tube, I used the "As Seen on TV" little super snake drain cleaner, the wire that spins, grabs hold of stuff, pull it out the bottom. Bonzi Lon

1973 240Z Refreshtoration – 901 Silver
Rich, glad you got them going good and back on the engine. The flat tops I had worked fine for the first 2 1/2 years, then slipped into unadjustment which no one wanted to figure out. Easier for them to swap at the time, 1980. Flat is Back! Bonzi Lon

Atf?
This is my Zinc of choice, http://www.cam-shield.com/ I'm glad I found it, for insurance. Pomorza, Cousin David has always run diesel oil in all his Z's, older high mileage. Bonzi Lon

Finally Bought My Z!
I must agree on that nostalgic smell, even after 37 years, in pieces for 28 years, even after a refurbishment, it is still there. Simple Green is my friend also. Nice car, enjoy the ride. Bonzi Lon

Atf?
The majority of diesel oil also have much higher levels of Zinc & Phosphorus that has been reduced or is missing in today's regular engine oil. Bonzi Lon

240Z based 2000 GT replica
If anyone is interested in a Ferrari 250 GTO body kit near Kansas City, I have his information, please PM. I am not selling it for the guy, just met him this weekend at the McPherson CARS Show, passing along a possible deal. He knew it was for a 240Z when he bought it but he wanted to put it on an MG, wouldn't work. His wife wants it GONE. Most of you with wives, know what THAT means. Bonzi Lon

ZCON10, My Classic Car on Speed
^^^I take it you have never seen this show before. That is the format he uses for car shows, pick out 3 or 4 people with unusual or interesting rides. Sometimes he will do the 15min segment on one owner and several of their cars, read Leno, and others with spectacular vehicles. I enjoyed the presentation, & was surprised I was in two of the shots. Installing Choke Cable
Yes, the 73 cable is longer, right at 6 foot, had mine out for a good lube 3 days ago. If you want to use the 71 cable a hole will have to be made on the drivers side, in the same spot as the 71's, use the choke grommet, then plug the passenger hole with a rubber plug. Or sell the 71 cable and get one for a 73. The 73 will have a bracket that bolts to the valve cover that holds the cables down to keep from rubbing on the hood. Bonzi Lon

Cleaning metal fuel lines
I had the same problem, the spray wouldn't get to the back end. Finally hooked up an IV device, filled with lacquer thinner until it ran out the back then plugged the back line. Waited 15 minutes or so and blew it out, what a mess & stink, should of used a catch can. Did it once more, it was fairly clean. I did change the fuel filter after about 1K miles, it looked brownish. Clear & clean after 7K more miles. Bonzi Lon

Flow-Through Ventilation Question
For those that don't know, didn't see or realize, the round quarter badges are Left & Right. There are small gaps on the badge that needs to be toward the back of the car for it to vent properly. Bonzi Lon

Car won't swallow?
I re-read the first paragraph of post 16 several times. To me it sounds like the float is not floating and you are getting less than 3mpg. (drove 6 miles, 2.6 gal.) Hmmm I know you don't want to, but I really think it is time to drop the tank and see what is going on in there. I HAD to drop mine, was nervous at first, but it was easy. Bonzi Lon

ZCON10, My Classic Car on Speed
Just saw the trailer / teaser, on SPEED, for the 'My Classic Car' coverage of ZCON10 in Nashville. I was happily surprised to see my Z panned in the trailer. It will air on the SPEED Channel, Tuesday May 10, 2pm CST, and again on Sunday May 15, 9am CST. If there are any other times when it will air, please post them here. Bonzi Lon

Car won't swallow?
I've had my 73 tank down & refurbished. Looking in from the filler hole you can see the sending unit float, then the baffle, which is about where the "L" bend is, about 6 inches tall, no holes in the metal but, places at the bottom for fuel to go from side to side. These might be plugged with sediment, varnish, rust particles? On the other side of the baffle is the pick up & return tubes, you can see where they enter over the baffle. I was able to view the bottom of them by using a mirror & LED flashlight, actually you can view everywhere inside once down and the sending unit out, but you have to drop the tank. Hope this helps, some. Bonzi Lon

Which is the correct part # for the oil filter?
First OEM filter I put on was for ZCON10, and by luck or chance, the NISSAN logo with the Japanese writing was facing square up. Bonzi Lon

Differential Stuck? Car Glued to Floor....
If your 73 is like mine it should have a magnetic drain plug. Might drain it into an aluminum pan then search further in the oil with a magnet for any other bits. It will only cost a refill to see if there are chunks in the soup. Bonzi Lon

Fudge!!! @#$!!!!! someone rear ended my car
If you can, get ALL the parts, labor, paint repair estimates 'in writing' you are happy with before the adjuster comes by. This will give you a little more leverage in case of a low ball estimate for 'just an old car'. Bonzi Lon

Help (I think), Aliens have abducted my wife!
Great! Looks like a good start. First thing, search around and get "The Datsun Roadster Book", by Scott Sheeler. It is a 2 volume wealth of information, tips, quirks & part numbers. $88 when I got mine and worth every penny. A source for parts I have used is http://www.datsunparts.com/ in Northridge, CA. Will YOU be taking the purse in for a paint match, or will alien wife? Bonzi Lon

Odd Observation
If you really want to know for sure what temp each open at, I would suggest putting both in a pan of water with a meat / candy thermometer, slowly raise the heat to observe when & at what temp each one opens. Frank beat me to it, but I put them both in at the same time. Bonzi Lon

4 speed to 5 speed swap
Maybe a short 36 mile cruise west on Kellogg would help you get used to it. I could get mine out of winter storage then we could let the 'twins' run, & a photo shoot. Bonzi Lon
