hey man, i had almost the exact same problem with the exception that I would get one spark after I stopped turning the engine over. I just purchased a pertronix ignitor ignition with matching coil and removed the ballast resistor, now it starts and runs fine. I too had the ballast resistor on my car with a crane cams xr700 module for more than a few years and ran fine, but it ended up not running. but yes my ballast resistor smoked as well. If I were you I would purchase the pertronix ignitor and hook it up in about 10 minutes. My car runs like a champ now. Hope this helps.
  2. Hey, I'm having practically the same problem, if you find out what it is, would you send me the info? thanks alot.
  3. Whenever I try to start the car the engine turns over, but doesn't start. Come to find out it's not getting spark. It had been converted to an electronic ignition with a crane cams 700 module. I found another 700 module in a car I had for parts and tried to replace the first one with it. After replacing it, I turn the engine over and over, and I get one spark after I stop turning the key. When I put the old module back in, I don't get any spark at all. A guy that was helping me said he thinks it is still the module. But after seeing the one spark it makes me think that it is something else. CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME, IT'S STRESSING ME OUT. haha BTW it's a 1972 240z
