In South Africa , there been build localy homlogation specials from different manufacturers , for example BMW build a 7 series with a with a 24 valve 6 cil M5/6 engine , Chevrolet build on a Vauxhall Firenza a V8 302ci car called a Chevy CanAm , Alfa Romeo build a GTV 6 3.0l engine , All these cars a 100 each , where localy build as homolgation specials for South Africa , Is it possible Nissan did the same with the Skyline ?

Hertslich Wilkommen , I am Adrian from the Netherands and we do 240z,s for a long time , contact me , because mayby i can help you , ( we speak verry good German too ) Freudliche Grusse Adrian .
  5. Verry interesting hear technical things about racing Z,s there should be much more written about this . I run a 4.40 R180 from a Subaru WRX Gr N Rally car , this is a purpose build Plate type LSD diff from Prodrive Subaru STI , we made our own output flanges for the Datsun drive shaft . I have a 200SX gearbox with a 240Z Bellhouse , fits straith to a L6 engine , with better gearshift and close ratio 2.43-1.81-1.36-1.00-0.82 (Kameari gear kit ) My second option would be a Turbo T5 with a G-Force Close Ratio kit these have more options for 5e gear For brakes we use the Toyota 4 pot Calipers or the much lighter AP Racing I do not have expierece with Datsun 240Z in Endurance racing but i have with my 65 Shelby Mustang with Spa 6 Hour and Nurburgring 500 Marathon We uses yellow Pagid but I prefere Performance Friction , they are easyer to bedding in and frienlyer for the Discs , the rear drums we use Porterfield R4 but the only the racing stuff the other stuff dont last for 6 hours. Whats actually the minimum weight you can build a Racing Z
  6. I use a C type sx180 box , We did the modification to a 240Z bellhouse and fitted a Kamiari close ratio kit 2.62-1.81-1.36-1.00-0.83 And using a R180 GrN Prodrive 4.40 diff with my own output flanges
  7. Alan I found in my little yellowbook ( same asyou have ) A period written note with 3 ?? different part nr from the headlamp covers 63901/63900-E4100 63901/63900-E4126 63901/63900-E8725

in perod they used 4.75-10.00-14 Dunlop racings or 215/70-14 road/rally tyres , the tape ypu ask for is used on helicopter blades andprotect them for damage , I have it in my shop but i have to look for brand , i sure it comes from the states,

In Europe they are still used for classic racing , the size you probably need for a 240z is 5.50-14 , i used them on a z as well . Btw there is not much choice for 14" .

Vin nr versus Chassis nr I think in the US the call it Vin nr and this equal to what we call Chassis nr
  13. z-spec replied to kats's post in a topic in 432 & 432-R
No Carl , carnet nr can not be transfer to other cars , its a temporary export permit , normally for a year , the canets ar specific for a car , and details as Chassis nr , type , ectr are written on the carnet , These carnets as I say are valid for a year , and within this year the goods on the carnet , in this case cars , have to be shipped back to where they come from , to clear the carnet .The japanese did this to avoid local taxes . Or , if they stay in a a other country , they have to pay local taxes , as import tax , Vat , ectr. In case of the 1971 Monte cars it was probably cheaper to leave them just in Europe . Carl #7996 is the only works car , and after research we found out its the TKS33 SA 985 the #62 car in the 1971 Monte , The others are just early cars in my Garage Regards

Al the Datsun 240z,s used for the rally and for recce in the 1971 Monte had different carnet nr and 4 of the 5 cars where LHD , just one customer 240z driven by Mr and Mrs van Bergen , from South Africa was RHD , One of these #62 driven by Raano Aaltonen in the 1971 Monte Carlo rally is still existing , and I know much more about , these 4 LHD cars where build in aug 1970 , regarding to the chassis nr from TKS33 SA 985 and changed in september to a Dutch registration . Thanks to Alan , Rauno , Rob Janssen ( who was driving the car in the 1971 RAC Rally ) did we dig out the history .
