I can't find much information on Mayfield Marshall, other than he was marketing director for Datsun and helped to supply the 240's for Bob Bondurant's school. Those cars were 70's and 72's, and were painted orange. Also, it would seem unusual that a race car would have factory air conditioning. I must be missing something?
  2. I had the same thought about play in the hubs, so i replaced frt bearings and double checked the wheel brg preload. The shims are all in and I had the rotors turned. I'll try the ring test today. If I end up replacing the rotors and pads......... what pads should I be looking for?
  3. I have an intermittent problem with my 240z. More often than not I experience a shimmy, translated through the steering wheel on braking. I had the rotors turned and I replaced the pads but the problem has returned. I'm planing on trying a better grade of brake pad and cleaning the rotors with sandpaper. What type of pad would be best for normal to agressive street driving? Are high metalic content or ceramic pads an option?

I too have heard many rumors about armor-all and that switching products will cause the dash to crack. When I bought my z, it had no cracks or flaws in the dash. However, there are now two small holes(about the size of the tip of a screwdriver) and one small line(not really a crack) in it. We did have the dash out when we restored the car, and I also was advised to stop using armor-all and switch to this product http://www.adamspolishes.com/p-101-adams-vrt-vinyl-rubber-tire-dressing.aspx. Someone once told me that the dash gets "addicted" to the silicone and if you switch to no silicone it will crack. I would like to know if any one else has seen this. I really don't know if the holes are from removing the dash or if they are a result of no more silicone.

What brand of tires? Do you have a picture? I am only finding yokohoma and bf goodrich in the 215/60/14, and the Falken Ziex 512 only comes in the 205/60/14.
  12. I resent that, not all women drive autos. My first car was a 1976 manual Fiat X19 that my dad got me for my 16th birthday. I learned to drive in that car, and had great fun chirping the tires in second gear (with a whopping 75 hp). I then went on to drive the hell out of my 1972 4 speed 240. I have an automatic 71 240 now and it is very difficult to keep from putting a manual in it, but I want to keep it original. Either way, it is what ever the driver prefers, whether female or male.

Show me where there is a guarantee of separation of church and state in our founding documents. I believe it only exists in some judge's fantasy.

here is a link to a good tire calculator http://gs.tolan-hoechst.com/tirecalc.htm We are trying to determine what size tires to install on our stock 71 240 with 14" wheels.
  15. We'll be there, hoping to see some nice z's...

We just bought this car and the tach was not working when we bought it. I plan on installing electronic ignition soon (pertronix). Will that make a difference on tach options? (possible use of later model tachs or aftermarket) I do have a tach from a 1972 car. Would that work. Where do I look for the number of connections? on the back of the tachometer itself? The car currently has an automatic with dual points.

My tach is stuck at 3000 rpm. I assume this means it is internally faulty. Should I start searching for a replacement tach or is there something I can do with this one? Also what tachs interchange? Our car is a 1971 series one 240.
