I've done the headlight upgrade harness, followed the instructions but something is not right. Turn on the running lights ( position 1 ) and I have side markers, tails, front driver headlight and front driver running lamp and no turn signals. Turn on headlights ( position 2 ) and I have all lamps, no turns, and no driver high beam. Anyone run into this?
  2. Well after 6 yrs of collecting parts and working on my 73, I started it up for the first time today ( I have never heard this car run ). I've done a 2..8 N42 with flat tops, an E-88 head with a C-grind, Mallory dual point distributor with Pertronix II and matching coil, MSA header, and 3 Dell's on a Cannon manifold. I also did the fresh stuff like HV oil pump, water pump, timing kit, ect. After priming the fuel, it fired on the first hit. It stumbles a bit off idle, must be lean but it sure sounds great. Now on to the master cyl to finish off the brakes so I can run it around the block. Maybe I'll do a YouTube later today.

I'm about ready to give up on you kids. It's a 30+ yr old sports car. Show some respect for what it was. It was built with floor mats for carpet, it had 14" wheels not 20's; The car has a light weight frame and body that was never ment for 600 hp twin turbo what evers. Sure you can mod it but to what end. I see these ridiculous posts about slamming it to the ground and dropping in motor so you can do around 200 mph all based on a car that someone got for 400 bucks. A total rust bucket on top of that. And then you wonder why your hacked up idea of the ultimate street racer will only get you 5 grand on Ebay, if that, when you have 25 g's in it. You know why a 64 Ferrari is worth $200,000 , it's because the owner kept it as a 64 Ferrari and didn't try to build in into an Enzo. I saw an early Ferrari on Ebay not to long ago and the Bozo who owned it had a SBC in it, everything else was nice on the car. He wanted around 20 grand for it and it was not bringing bids. Tell you anything. If you have to build it, do a proper build. If you want a race car then build a race car for the race track. I would like to see these cars start to become real collector cars, but it's not going to happen if the car isn't treated as a real collector car. Sorry for that rant, must have been a bad week to read posts on the boards.

I just did the whole fuel system on my 73, front to back. The tank needed a boil out, no rear pump, bad front pump, clogged lines. I'm running a Facet rear pump 3-4 lb pressure gold 60 series with a filter before the pump, new 5/16 fuel lines in the rear. At the front a new filter to a new mech pump and new 7mm fuel lines. Mine you I have a triple set up but this works fine. I'm not sure what the psi is on the stock pump, but the factory on is a copy of the old Bendix pump which are now Facet/Purolator. I don't think the stock electric pump did more that 4 psi since it was feeding the mech pump.

You have the Datsun brand Comp header

Thanks, yes it is an early original. It had a slight bend in it and took a lot of work to make it right.

Your spoiler turned out better than mine. I'm jealous. Nice job.

Datsun Comp header, it's in the " How to Modify your Datsun" book.

The VW Beetle seems to be a much cheaper car to buy parts for. If you want a Z then it's going to cost ya. The same as if ya want a TR6 or a Lotus Elite, or an XKE. Very few shops will carry this stuff because the market is very small. You should be thanking MSA for being the shop that they are and supply that they have. Otherwise go buy a Beetle.

The board just covered this subject a few months ago. Try using the search box.
  11. L28+ 280Z block, N42= 280Z head. If you have a 5 speed, its 280Z. There were no special option motors that you could order from the factory. There were very few option that could be ordered, air, auto, the color. That was about it. What you have is a 240Z with a replaced 280Z motor and trans. Pretty much the standard replacement stuff on a 240Z.

The early spoiler has 2 mounting tabs, the ones near the humps. These spoilers also have a tendency to bow inward, don't know why but they do.
  13. Bad Dog has frame rails that go over the existing rails. No removal just weld them in place.

Well that's why the Z is not taken seriously. I think they called it a piece of junk. Those were both jokes. Gee never heard of a "G" nose. If they wanted to stick something out of the hood then how about 4 webers on there SBC. Whats with those fender mirrors and that thing they called a grill. What a sham of a show. Made me feel like my Z is on par with an Astro van.
  15. We sell them but it not the same as an automotive belt. The pulleys used in industrial apps have a different side angle. Gates has the same thing and we also do Gates, and it does not show up in the auto section.

If there the same as the Datsun comp 6 into 2, then yes they fit both left and right hand.

    I have a 24 cover on a 28, same cover
  18. Those are 8" rims with a 0 offset so rubbing would be a slight problem.
  19. It's all in the diameter of the wire the springs are made of and how they are wound. My Tokicos were longer on the rear too. My Koni springs from the 70's are the same length, there not cut and are new but the fronts are stiffer.
  20. It's the other way around. Use a 240 or big valve 260 on a 280 block. It's the block that gives you the inches and inches = power
  21. Bored and stroked, you can get about 2.7 out of your 2.4.
  22. This setup is with Tokico's "F" on front "R" on rear. Gassless shocks, 205/60-15 and 225/55-15
  23. You can check the Pick your parts and the Ecology off PCH in North Long Beach. They sometimes have a 260 or 280 there. Once in a while a 240 will pop up
  24. If I were you the first thing I would do is move the trans. Then figure out if you want to sell it.
  25. So is anyone making reproduction lens. The aftermarkets do not have the right shape and there on the thin side.
