  1. If I can find an early 5 speed, it's going in.

I don't recall seeing many if any cars at the last Barrett Jackson auction with window tint film applied. Maybe the guys who get $100 grand for a 67 anything know something about window tinting and car values.

I just got a set of Art Metal pistons. Made in Japan, there L24 and .50mm oversize. The box looks like it's 30yrs old. They came with the pins and ring. There a cast piston. Question, does anyone really know about Art Metal, did they made a good piston? I'm going with the cast becuse I have had problems in the past with forged pistons scuffing on start up. The car will not be used very often and I don't think I'm going to run above 6000 rpm if it ever see's that. I don't want to bore it to a 2800. I do want to keep the block becuse of the numbers. I'm just doing a nice period piece, slight cam SK Mikuni Sports Kit, exhaust and lots of blueprinting and balancing. Thanks
  4. If I can make a suggestion, the questions sound more like you should be looking at a nice 280ZX or newer. The 240 was a basic sports car. It's ment to handle good and go fast. It's a drivers car. They were not concered with sound systems, and power everything, thats not what a real sports car was all about in the 70's. Later on they did equip them with more luxury items and like most car builder lost the meaning of a true sports car. Look at the Jags, Vettes, Porsche, MG's and such of that day. If you look at a original 240Z, you see things like floor mats instead of a fully carpeted and insulated interior, AM/FM was a step up. They started life as a 4 speed, thin metal, race car type suspention, no power anything 2 seater. Thats a sports car. Sure you can have A/C and a great sound package and an automatic, but at what cost. You end up with a car that looks like a 240Z but the drive isn't the same. Back then it was all about driving the car instead of just riding in it.

How far are you going to go with it. Full resto mod or a beater driver. The motor can go in any time after you finish the rest of the car off. I'm doing the suspention first since I need to detail the engine bay with the crossmember out. Then all the tubes, suspention, and after the car is rewired and painted then the motor. I just hate to have a finished motor sit on a stand in a bag waiting to go in.

The Rover 3500 started life as the Buick 215 back in the early 60's. BMC bought the motor and developed it. I did one in an MGB back in 1970. It was a rocket. It's more than possible to get 300hp out of one. It has been the hot rod motor in the UK for since the 60's. What's nice about it is it's small and very light. You can get carb and FI manifolds for them.

The racks fit 79-80's. since I have a 240 I can't use them. Anyone local (So Cal) want these things ? I'll pass em on so long as I know your going to use em for your 280 and your not going to put them up on E-bay.

360 is good price, do you get the cup holder included ? I take it this is not a street car, so why worry about windows. If your racing it, then your looking at plexiglass for everything but the windshield, maybe that too. You could do a slider on the driver side.

The gearing can get it there, it's the amount of horsepower you need to push it. Looking at other cars that can do it and there aero package you would need 7 or 800 hp to get it there. But thats just a guess.
  18. I'm looking at mine right now. The Warranty booklet has a pocket attached to it and in the pocket is the card. The card says warranty card on it. The book has across the top, " Your datsun warranty card is an important part of the fine vehicle you now own" . I even have the original biz card from the salesman. The dealership was an American Motors, Oldsmobile, Datsun, and Mercedes-Benz place. What a combo huh. Near as I can tell, I got every receipt for all the parts, and work ever done on the car, even oil changes. I also got every reg card and smog cert through out it's life.

Well the body and paint are in real nice shape. I just need to rebuild, renew, rewire, recheck Ebay and maybe rethink the rest of the car. But it sure looks shinny sitting on the jack stands. Side note: Every now and then I turn up the radio in the garage, sit in the car and pretend I'm going somewhere. Gets great gas milage too.

I pulled my 73 mill 6 months ago, I pulled both manifolds which made the job easier. Pulled the radiator too. As for the trans, I left mine in for now, I have a tie down strap hooked from the bottom of the hood lock support to the bottom of the trans. Works for me. The motor came out real easy leaving the trans behind. Oh, have a friend help you put the hood back on. Otherwise you will wind up with the 2 paint chips on the nose emblem
  21. Bottom line, we can all get our hands on dual SU's, triple Webbers, Mikuni's and Solexes, dual 2 bbls, and 4 bbls, supercharges, turbos, and FI systems. Steve has the only 3 SU setup known. The art of custom work is to be the only one with that whatever. He has it and I salute him for it. That puts him on the short list of WOW, and leave us wondering how to get on that list.
  22. I'm getting in line too.
  23. The Arco stuff was back in the 70's and it didn't do much. I like to add 1/2 qt of trans fluid to mine the day before I plan a change. The high detergent cleans up the insides.
  24. I saw your setup at the show, I have the same thing on my Volvo 240 and it works great. I'll get one from you in a couple of weeks.
