Andrew, sorry to hear about your loss. When an insurance agent says they have no idea how to make an estimate for this, it makes me wonder how they even got their job... I know of someone near San Antonio who has a nice shop and does fantastic collision and restoration work that may be able to help you if you can't find anyone in the Austin area. Here is his info: Ranger Collision and Custom 3848 Hwy 16 South Bandera, TX 78003 830-460-3848 Scott Morris Very nice guy and doesn't take shortcuts in his work. Most shops out there will only work with late model cars and even then you have to wonder what goes on behind those doors. Good luck to you... Lee
  2. Might be made to fit the 2+2 as it has a shorter hatch and rear glass....

Dang, if they did, it must have been late in the month or had to be 9/74 as mine is one of the last of the early ones. My 260Z is RLS30-044940, build date 8/74 with the small bumpers.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I had recently replaced my brake booster with a spare and had the same symptoms. Of course the reaction disk fell out on mine too, but I failed to check before installing it. I just wanted to contribute a photo of what the disk looks like and what a hell of a difference a tiny piece of rubber can make on your brake function. As mentioned elsewhere I also HIGHLY recommend checking your booster before installing it! Thanks guys, for your help and the search function. Lee
  8. Back in 1994, I was just out of high school and found an old Newsweek magazine dated April, 1975 highlighting the imminent fall of Saigon. Curious, I started looking through it and after few pages came across this ad. I had no knowledge of Z's before that but I was hooked ever since and figured one day I'd get one... even 20 years later their advertising still worked!

Jonathan, maybe this diagram will help you better. It is from my 260Z shop manual. What were the other 4 tach's from? Reason I ask is that I went through three 260z tachs and were all bad and ended up using a 75-76 280Z tach and have no problems. I've heard the early tachs weren't as reliable as the later 280 versions. Regards, Lee

I think I'm gonna be sick. Sorry for the loss and like everyone else said, don't give in to them. If you do try to repair it, I think I have another early 260Z bumper in storage.
  11. Hi Tom, The BRE rear spoiler is the standard 3". Your track Z is pretty sweet... I just finished installing A/C in the car from Nostalgic Air and will try to upload photos of it if my computer and connection cooperate.
  12. Thanks for the comments. Yeah, if you want the bumpers to sit closer to the body, the procedure is the same front and rear.
  13. Most of what I needed, I found on ebay and the rest was from Motorsport Auto http://www.thezstore.com/store/merchant.mvc?. If you are wanting to go back to the original color, there is a decal on the radiator support towards the passenger side next to the hood support rod that has the color code.
  14. Nice find, good luck with the project. It's great to see the younger generation taking interest in these cars. At least your interior is in better shape than mine when I got it... http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29347
  15. To be honest, I am not exactly sure. I kept all receipts on what I spent, I'm just too scared to look.....

Welcome, you'll find a lot of useful information on this site. Nice 280Z, it looks better than when I found my 260. Now that I think about it, when I saw this ad in an old 1975 Newsweek magazine quite a few years back, I was hooked on Z cars.
  17. Hi Mike, thank you for the comments, I believe it is 304 Gold Metallic. That is from what I could tell from some color samples from a Dupont color chip book. The original tag on the radiator support was worn out making it more of a mystery at first. The local paint supplier has a camera that scanned the underside of my hood which still had the original paint and calculated a formula. Very nice to have handy.
  18. Hey dat260, thanks for the comments. When the bumpers are off, there is a phillips screw in the center on the mounting face of the shock. Take this screw off, and gas stored in the shocks will bleed out. You can then collapse them. Some may take a bit more effort with a hammer and then you can put a few welds around the body of the shock to keep it collapsed. It is a nice quick fix, especially when I didn't have the rubber fillers for the front and rear. Thank you for the invitation at HybridZ. I will check that out. At some point in time, I will install a Tokico Illumina Shock/Spring kit I recently bought and do the Toyota 4 piston caliper conversion up front.
  19. Hi Chris, thank you for the comments! Yes it is the MSA twice pipe exhaust. I had heard stories about the quality and fit, so I bought one to see for myself. I may as well do a short review of it now that you ask. The fit I will say could be way better, I had to adjust the pipes quite a bit before clamping them. Even so, they hang down lower than the factory exhaust and even the MSA premium turbo exhaust. So watch out for roadkill on the highways. Clearance is tight at the left rear tire, but will do okay. If you don't have much experience fitting exhaust pipes, you may want a muffler shop to help you. The sound is awesome, it has somewhat a Ferrari note, especially on acceleration. Definitely will get people's attention. Although if you were to drive it on the interstate for any given time, the noise level may bother you (Hey they're glasspacks!). It is not for everyone. Also the twice pipes are not aluminized, so they will rust right away if you don't spray a high temp paint on them. Even then they will still rust on the inside. A few years back, I tried the MSA 2.5" turbo exhaust setup on my '78 280Z before I sold it and loved the sound, except for the resonance around 2,000 rpm, it sounded terrific. The fit on these was tricky to install as well. Now that MSA has the premium turbo setup with flanges, I probably would have gone with that setup. I noticed the price of the MSA twice pipes went up about $30, to bad kit has not improved. Hope this helps.
  20. Hey Bulldog Z, it is a metallic, but not metal flake. If I remember right I believe the color Nissan called it is 304-Gold Metallic. One of the toners used in the formula was "fine aluminum". I want to thank all of you for the comments, I'm glad to be a part of this forum. Very informative site, my questions are asked and answered before I can even post it. Talk about convenient!
  21. For the best results, I used a MIG welder to fill the holes on those side moldings, as well as the holes for the fender emblems and rear hatch emblems. Afterwards, I used a disc grinder to make it smooth and then used some body filler to take care of imperfections. I also undercoated the back side to prevent corrosion.
  22. Thank you for the comments Jim, the tranny tunnel trim and rear shock tower trim was taken from another 260Z at the local pick-n-pull. I know the 240Zs used a larger pattern. I guess that was a 260Z only thing? Correct me if I'm wrong.
  23. Thank you for the comments so far! Arne, I used Krylon Semi-Gloss Black on the spoilers, mirrors, and window louvers. Available at your local Wal-Mart!
