  1. Well, I know the time comes when one knows the time has come to let go. I did it many years ago (27), but also repurchased her back 3 years ago. As far as the parts going with, only out of potential personal interest in a couple things you mentioned, I'd say offer up at least some separate from the sale of the car. By the way the new toy sounds like an awful lot of fun.
  2. A couple days ago took 30855 to the paint shop. :-)
  3. I have a '71 which I installed a 4.44 large case and 5 speed (.85 5th) back in '72. I liked it, didn't seem to affect gas mileage that much. In fact on a drive from Oregon to Florida in '75 I got 30 mpg on a long stretch of west Texas.

Will trade wind for rain :-) Rio Rancho/Albuquerque could use some rain too - actually the whole state of NM could stand a lot of moisture.

Well, I am doing a refresh on one of my 240's and have shopped many places. If I am buying several things I look for who has the best overall prices plus shipping and order several items (Banzai, Courtesy, ZConnection(ebay), and MSA. I have not had issues with any parts I have ordered from any of them. I compare shop prior and then use what I call convenience by selecting one place for the shopping list. Currently I am looking at MSA for interior parts to include the replacement dash. Not many places offer all the pieces so I can "one stop shop". FWIW - Just my way of shopping.
  6. Carl, yes you got "my" Z, but at least someone that appreciated it got it. What Carl shares about Paul Jaremko rolling the Z off the show room floor to take it for a spin is an example of how Paul was to potential customers. I had the same experience when I test drove the 2000 roadster, except it had just rolled off the truck. Paul said lets go and off we went for a real ride. I picked up my May of '71 Z from Jaremko Motors on July 2, 1971. (In hindsight, I wish I had gotten the 2000 roadster also.)
  7. Must be in the air - seeping head gasket. I took mine for a ride today, but before doing so was checking things out under the hood and noticed the seep.
  8. I want to share my experience with Ron - He received my clocks on Jan 27 and I got them back on Feb 19. One was a regular 240Z clock that he did the quartz conversion on. The other was my two button rally clock. I have to say I am impressed with the information he provided regarding his findings after inspecting the rally clock and oscillator. He gave me a bit of a lesson on dendrite growth as it related to the burned resistor he found - included a picture also. The clocks look brand new. I have attached before (the first two), the ones Ron provided me (next 3), and after pictures (last 3). I highly recommend that if you need clock work - Ron is the ONE!!
  9. Thank you Carl - hope I can real that line in.
  10. Just bumping this back in hopes someone just might have some ideas of where I may find these.
  11. On my one '71 Z (30855) I had installed the BRE style clear headlight covers, as well as had a set of the fiberglass covers. Over the years that she was out of my ownership both sets disappeared. I am now looking for a set. The covers need to be undrilled (mounting holes not drilled in them) since I already have the mounting tabs installed in the headlight buckets. I appreciate any help in locating a set. By the way I had contacted the manufacturer of the current sets sold at MSA to see if they pull a set off the line before they were drilled and they said no.

I have Hellas in one of mine (30855), put 'em in back in 1972. Back then it was an argument over which was better - Hella or Cibie. I believe Carl B used the Cibie. Of course before she hits the roads again I will have the upgraded harness in to take full benefit of the light provided.
  13. Matt, I too felt that my Z was long gone, trashed, and in a wrecking yard (sold it in 1984). But low and behold in 2008 Carl sends me a mystery photo - Just the front left fender showing the headlight bucket and side marker light. One look and I could not believe that it was my Z. She is now in the midst of a refresh. Hope to have her completed for her 40th birthday in May. Good luck in your search. -Bill-
  14. The VIN is stamped in the firewall on the drivers side if all the other tags are missing (pass side strut tower tag and drivers door tag).

Here's one in NY on ebay - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/USED-Datsun-240Z-260Z-280Z-Exhaust-Manifold-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem2eb0667b68QQitemZ200528001896QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
  16. That is for the pair. I'll repeat what has been said, they are excellent quality.
  17. Just received mine - they sure are purdy :-) Pretty dang quick on shipping them out too.
  18. Ordered!! Thank you very much for posting as I was needing one set for now.
  19. I have them on the front and rear of my '71 that is lowered with the BRE springs. I have not had any issues with tire wear with them. At the time I put them on it was recommended to avoid the excessive negative camber. 1 degree negative front and 3/4 degree negative in the rear (1/2 to 3/4 was the recommendation).

I apologize for not reading the other six topics on this before making my previous post. So never mind unless there is something that hasn't been said.

Been a couple years since this topic was discussed and was curious if any new solutions have been discovered. I just got my Rewinds mounted today and called MSA concerning the cap - same answer from them as two years ago -flatten the center cap a bit.
  22. Sorry!!! Guess the heat got to me -
  23. Thought I'd share some pictures of this 280Z that was at the Route 66 Casino annual car show. Being one that is not too fond of major customization on a Z, I think this one is very well done. All metal, no fiberglass in this work, according to the builder.
  24. The best music is the sound of a great exhaust system. If I have the radio on - Donna Summer's - I Feel Love. There is one by Booker T and the MG's I like to drive to also, but cannot remember the name (must be old age - blame everything on it)
  25. I have experienced the same problem when things heat up here in the Albuquerque area. Runs great in the morning and when I start home. About 3/4 of the way home (7miles) it starts to as if it is running out of gas. I finally checked the float levels and they were low. Setting them properly helped some, but the issue is still their. I am game to try the additive mentioned - I hate not getting to drive her a couple days a week during the week due to never knowing when she will decide to start acting up.
