  1. For those following this thread. Below are the follow-up activities that I took. - Re-checked the shavings, the largest shaving was non-ferrous. some of the smaller pieces were steel. - Removed the valve cover and re-inserted the thermostat housing bolt. It had no affect on the chain guard. Chain guard shows no signs of scraping. See pic. 2.5 mag - Did a more in depth look at the bearing play by placing each cylinder in a non-compression state. The feel test seem to be the same for each bearing. - Did a detailed inspection (strong lighting) of the top of the head and camshaft. Found no particles or scoring of any kind. As some of you have mentioned I am feeling the same. There must have been shavings from the re-build. I recall, after the rebuild, when we first fired the motor and set timing & tuning. I did an other oil change & filter. I did not inspect the filter (should have). Putting things back together and will do another oil change & filter inspection in 100 or so miles. Again thanks for all the support.
  2. Sorry I missed some of the additional replies. Lots of good questions being asked. I did not remove the valve cover. But still can I will do a bit more looking. The rebuild did not involve any milling. But there was some assembly work done with the valve cover off. This was done after the oil pan was on. I did check the bearings for slop and they all felt to be the same. I will post an update tomorrow. Thanks to all
  3. Grannyknot I am feeling pretty confident that you nailed my problem. I removed the bolt and the end of the bolt is worn down at an angle. The angle part is shiny. See 2nd pic.(2.5 mag.) Pic below shows the size of shavings compared to a dime. There were no shavings in the oil pump screen. I also cut the oil filter open and found no shavings. Do you think if I grind the bolt down by a 1/4" I will be good to go? Thank You to all who replied to my Help request. Its comforting to know that a great group of Z club people are standing by to help.
  4. This is a high probability, I will pull the housing and check the bolt. Thank You
  5. I knew I went to the best place to get Help. All suggestions are great. Will have an update tomorrow.
  6. My 73 original engine that was torn down and re-built. It has been driven 800 miles since the re-built. I noticed soon after getting it back on the road that the oil pan gasket was leaking slowly. I decided to replace it today and discovered metal shavings in the bottom of the oil pan. The attached (no magnification)picture shows the shavings that I captured in a piece of foam filter material. Most of the shavings I picked off the bottom of the pan and placed on the filtering material. I checked the savings with a magnet and they are non-ferrous metal shavings. I am hoping that this forum has a motor rebuilder who can advise me on what my next steps should be. Could this be fragments from the rebuild? What parts of motor are non-ferrous? My engine builder has since past away so I am in need of some direction. Below is my rebuild album (could not remove from this post).
  7. View Advert L24 Engine & Transmission Someone please make me an offer. I need to clear my garage space !!! I have a spare L24 engine & transmission that I would like to sell. My restro. https://www.classiczcars.com/profile/10812-crshowers/ is complete and spare parts no longer needed. What is missing? Just the thermostat inlet housing & the starter, alternator. All other parts are intact. This has flat top carbs that you most likely want to replace. The engine has not been run in the past 10 years. It has a performance cam installed. I do not have any details, as the prior owner has passed away. I would like to see someone from the Northeast be the new owner to minimize delivery costs. I dropped the price to $750 I think that is a fair price for both. Someone got to have a good home for this. contact me for delivery options Advertiser crshowers Date 08/11/2022 Price $750 Category Parts for Sale

Back in July 2015 I posted this album: https://www.classiczcars.com/gallery/album/535-73-z-before-starting-restoration/ This album has been updated to show some of the restoration that has taken place. Now after 5 years of restro work it is a running green Zcar machine. - Lots & lots of body work, cutting out sections of sheet metal and replacing it. - Front & rear bumpers completely redone - rubber components refurb'd, bumpers re-chromed. Done by Classic Auto Services - A gorgeous green paint job - New SS brake & gas lines -New electric fuel pump - Refurbished booster - New rear drums - New front disc brakes & rotors - Refurbished heater - Some interior work - Dash installed - Engine installed - Trans and rear installed - Fuel lines connected and tested electric fuel pump - New wheels & tires from Bigwheels.net - Brake fluid added and bleed brakes - Lots of plumbing work done to eliminate all the pollution controls - SU's installed & connected - Roger made custom fittings to simplify and make the lines look great - Ready to fire the engine. Had to go thru some gyrations to get the oil pump to start pumping oil. - Fired up & it purrs like a kitten - UV joints for half shafts installed - All systems go, its now a running green machine. - Back to the Body shop for the installation of the fenders, doors, windows, bumpers & hatch. - Took some time to get all the parts back on but on Oct. 9 I took it out for a spin around the block - Well the good news its all together, the bad news springs were installed at the wrong locations. - So back down to RB Import to remove all 4 struct housings and swap the springs. - RB welded the tailpipe extender in place looks good - Well more news the left rear toe is off. Currently working on a solution. - Sure does look pretty. - Its back at its home after all most 4 years of restorations. Craig
