thats what i thought too...but they have the 75 and 76 the same as the 240 and 260 specs...the 77 is when it jumps up to the higher digits... but thanks.. i regapped and that totally solved my issue of clattering vs barely running...thanks again!!

ok, the auto store i got my spark plugs from says the gap is supposed to be like .30-.34, however, the book says it needs to be at .39-.44 (or somewhere round there). seems like thats a pretty wide gap in numbers to me...and i thought the first set of numbers was for the l24 and l26. i have a 76 280 with the fi l28. now if they go up a year to the 77, it specifies the second gap numbers, but i thought the 76 and 77 had the same engine? so whats the deal? and how am i supposed to gap these dang plugs?? thanks, jacqui

valve adjustment..
does anyone know where i can get the valves adjusted on my 76 280z here in san antonio? this is one thing ive never done before and dont really wanna mess it up. thanks

no vacuum!!
it was the vacuum line through the firewall...that mixed in with a couple of broke down hoses...and all works good.

oh, and one more thing...there is apparently a soleliod that the hoses are supposed to pass through...i dont think i have that on the car...least not now... anybody know what it does or where its located?

yup... i get no flow through the defrosters or the side eyeball vents, and no vaccuum from any of the hoses that go to the control unit. but it blows like mad through the center vents. and it only blows cold air from the a/c, or normal temp air...but no heat. i have vacuum going from the intake to the canister, but no where else. so i checked out these diagrams: http://www.zcar.com/forums/read.php?f=1&i=545965&t=545965 i pulled the hose from the canister through the firewall and have vacuum through it. the problem is one diagram says that hose goes to a magnet valve, and the other one says it goes straight to the control unit. so instead of contorting my body in strange ways to get under the dash, im gonna try the straight to the control unit first thing in the mornin. btw..i looked for this magnet valve thingy and i dont have a clue what it is or see anything that even resembles it.... anybody know?

no vacuum!!
76 280z with vacuum operated heat/ac controls. however, i have absolutly no vacuum comin or going throught the hoses. my a/c works, but air will blow through the center vents only. other than that i got nothin. ive hooked and unhooked everything i can think of and checked this site over... does anyone know what i need to replace to restore the vacuum to my lines?

ok guys...just fyi...im a tinkerer...in a big way. yes i have shelled out my share of cash, but its usually to replace parts myself that ive troubleshooted as the problem. eventually i find it.. sometimes it costs more than others, but at least i have learned a lil more about my car than i did before and it helps me in the future...but the problem was solved with a few exta pennies for super unleaded gasoline. now my question is why? are z cars just that finicky when it comes to octane, or does it have something to do with how the timing is set?

76 280z w the L28.....runs fine except when i hit the gas pedal a little more aggressively. if i gradually press down on it...the engine is fine...but if i stomp on it..i get a pinging noise, and sometimes some dark smoke out the exhaust with a strong fuel odor...any ideas??

:stupid: :stupid: i have a 76 280 fuel injected thats starts up and idols just fine...however after getting to running temperature, it will hesitate REALLY BAD (almost like a stall) then pick back up again and continue down the road till the next time. it never does it on idol or decelaration...only when accelorating. and it wont do it all the time...its very spiratic. its got new plugs, wires, dist cap, and rotor, and fuel pump. i just bought the car so i cant tell u much more than that..the fuel pump did have a small leak coming out the bottom, but i tightend up everything and it seemed to be ok for about a week...now its doing the same thing again...but with no leak. the only thing i can think of is the fuel pump is faulty or perhaps a short in the wiring somewhere. any more ideas would be greatly appreciated...thanks
