Hey there. I was just wondering if anyone has actually seen a L-28 diesel crankshaft. I have phoned all over the island and most of the wreckers haven't even heard of a diesel Maxima let alone the crankshaft for one. I knew it would be a hard thing to find but, whoaa! Am I thwarted?:disappoin
  2. Thanks a lot Mudge! That thing was pretty neat. The ratio turned out to be around 8.5:1 though. I was hoping for higher than that. I also have an older 280 engine with an N-42 head that according to the calculator says has a 9.5:1 ratio(with flat-tops). Now I'm stuck wondering which engine I should use for my 240 swap. From replys I've had from other posts, everyone says I should use the F54-P90 combo but it looks like its going to cost a lot more to make it rowdy. Are there any other threads saying how much horsepower each 280 makes? Again thanks, you're a west coaster too eh? Cool!
  3. Can anyone tell me how much compression/horsepower I would get just putting flat-top pistons in an F-54,P-90 combo? It has dished pistons right now.:classic:

Thanks for the help guys! As much as I would like to keep the injection and the turbo, I haven't got the computer brain to go with them. I was hoping that I could bolt on an intake from one of my other engines to keep the carbs. Ultimatley, I would like to keep the turbo and the carbs but, I've seen what that would entail and I'm not nearly as mechanically inclines as my dreams would like. I think my plan now is to get some flat-top pistons and send the block and head to the machine shop for a rebuild. I'm not sure if they need it but I think it would be worth the money anyway. Now all I need to find is a triple carb setup instead of these finicky SU's and I'm off....in a hurry! In any case, thanks for the replies and hopefully I can update everyone on how it goes.:classic:

Alright, lets try this again. I'm trying to find out what block I should use for my engine swap. I have an N-42 block with a P-79 head and an F-54 block with a P-90 head. I would think that newer is better but the F-54 is a turbo with fuel injection and I want to stay with carbs. Suggestions? Please help!:stupid:

Hey there. Could someone please give me an idea of which engine to put into my 240? I have a '78 L-28 and an 83 L-28 turbo engine. I'm not sure if either needs a rebuild yet but, I'm pretty sure I want to stay with carbs. From what I'm reading on other sites, the N-54(?) and P-90 head is the way to go. On others the P-79 block and E-88 head are the way to go. Both engines are dished pistons so they'll have to go but I was under the impression that the N-54 has siamesed cylinders so it's the best one to swap with. Please....anyone.....help me make up my mind! Thnx.

I wish I had an answer for you, however I am wondering the very same thing. I ordered the power-window kit from victoria-british and all they sent me was a generic kit that is completely useless and they charged me $60 for it! Do you know what that costs in canadian $? I hope someone has an answer for the both of us!

Hi there. I'm having some trouble with my starter. When I turn the ignition to the start position the starter engages and turns the engine over fine. The problem is that it won't shut off! I thought it may be the celunoid(?) but when I test it with the starter off the car it works fine. I know this points to the ignition switch but, when I take the top connection off the celunoid it stills goes. I thought that the top terminal came from the ignition switch so shouldn't it stop running with that connection off? Could anyone give me some suggestions so I can convince myself that I'm not on glue? Thanks!
