There are several sources for replacement floor pans for the early z's. Zedd Findings offers them @ http://web.ctsolutions.com/zeddfind/ and Motorsport Auto offers them @ http://www.zcarparts.com. They only sell them in a pair that will repair both sides. If your damage is just isolated to the driver's side you may just want to patch it with new sheet metal. There is a brief descrition of the replacement process in Wick Humble's book "How to Restore Your Datsun Z-Car". Check with Amazon.com they typically stock this book. Wick also wrote a new article that is in the on-line issue of Zcar Magazine @ www.zcarmag.com. The web site was down when I wrote this, I hope it's just a temporary thing. I do have a copy of the article if you can't retrieve it from the web site. The replacement or repair process is quite involved and unless you have the ability to fabricate & weld sheet metal you may want to speak with a body shop about the work. I am currently restoring my 1972 and have been working on the floors for longer than I dreamed possible. Good luck. ------------------ Jeff McElyea 1972 240Z jmcelyea@nassal.com

The 240's had their a/c added by the dealerships. They simply bolted a pulley to the front of the harmonic balancer. It's a single pulley held on by countersunk allen head screws through it's face. My 1972 is this way and I'm assuming it didn't change for 1973.

Victoria British sells stock mufflers for the 240Z. They list it as part #67-006 and in their current catalog it sells for $89.95. They can be reached @ 1-800-255-0088. This is a stock replacement muffler and if your current exhaust has been fabricated by a muffler shop it may not fit. Good luck. ------------------ Jeff McElyea 1972 240Z jmcelyea@nassal.com

  5. Mike, The truck transmission is already a five speed and the shifter location appeared normal with no sheet metal mods to the tunnel. I'm not doing a strict restoration, so I guess I will leave well enough alone. Thanks for your help. ------------------ Jeff McElyea 1972 240Z jmcelyea@nassal.com
  6. I have a 72 240Z that I am currently doing a ground up restoration on. The previous owner had put a five speed in the car and said it was an easy conversion with absolutely no modifications. When I pulled the motor and tranny the other day, the junk yard writing was still on the transmission indicating it came out of a Datsun truck. Is there any harm in this? Any benefit? What about handling added horsepower? ------------------ Jeff McElyea 1972 240Z jmcelyea@nassal.com
  7. Motorsport Auto @ 800-633-6331 sells floor pan kits and frame rails. Zedd Findings also sells reproduction pans and rails as well as used parts. You can see them on their web site @ http://web.ctsolutions.com/zeddfind/
