I am asking members for help on finding a new header pipe in another thread. This thread is asking for help on getting the old pipe off......namely how to get the nuts off the exhaust manifold. I read the "siezed header nut - help" thread by Arvin_a. I asked my local parts store for advice and they recommended a spray that freezes teh area instead of heating it up. Has anyone used the freeze approach?

I need to replace the header pipe that fits between the exhaust manifold and the catalytic converter on my 78 280Z. I ordered a Bosal pipe from Autoparts Warehouse but they canceled because of no stock. Does anyone know where I can purchase a stock pipe with flanges and no cutting and welding required?
  6. No, I noticed a sleeve but thought it was part of the control arm. Any hints on how to get the sleeve out. I have a lot of hand tools and a vise. Thanks
  7. I am rebuilding teh rear suspension on a 78 280Z. All is going well except I cannot get the new urethane bushings into to the outer control arm holes. IO have cleaned the control arm holes down to bare metal but cannot get the new bushings to slide into the holes. They seem to be 1/16" larger in diameter than the hole and when I compress them with a vise. they bulge out. This makes it impossible to slide in. I am using a lot of lubricant. Questions - 1 - are the new bushing supposed to be oversized by 1/16" or do I hae the wrong bushings? 2 - Does anyone have any tips to get the bushings in to the control arm? Thanks for your help

26th Z< what are the dimensions of teh light sets? I presume that you are selling both sets. If so , how much for the fog lamps. I am concerned that I will not be able to get replacement bulbs for the lights. Do you know what bulbs they use and the wattage?

I am thinking of putting driving/fog lamps on my 78 280Z that has stock front bumpers and body panels. I am open to the type of fog lamp but have been looking at the hella rectangular lamps in Black Dragon's catalog. I have 2 questions: 1) where should I mount them to keep them out of harm's way? 2) What lamps would you recommend if not the Hellas?
  13. I have a few light bulbs out on the speedo and the tach and I want to replace all the bulbs. I have tried to get my hands up there from the rear but it is impossible. Am I approching this the wrong way? Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks

  16. I have a 78 280z and have taken the compression on all cylinders. All cylinders are 148 - 150 Lbs except the number 3 which is 138 Lbs. Is 1150 Lbs normal and is my range from 138 to 150 OK?
  17. I want to replace my old boot. I do not know which part of the linkage to take apart to free the old boot. Is it the end at the accelerator pedal or the swivel mechanism at theh firewall in the engine compartment? How are the ball swivel joints disengaged from the ball on the swivel?
  18. I have a 78 280z with aluminum wheels that are 14X7. I have 195x70 x 14 tires that I want to replace. Is there a larger size tires that I can use on these rims? I am consdiering a set of Michelin pilot exacto a/s tires that are HR rated. Does anyone have any experience with these tires?? If so, please give me your feedback. Thanks.

I have a 78 280Z that has 14 inch mags. I want to upgrade to 15x7 in mags. What tire size should I use? Any recommendations on brand and source of tires and wheels? I have been a Michelin guy for years but I am open to talk about a different brand. My driving will be normal touring and town driving. I do not expect to do any handling rallys but will push the car on the country roads in my town so a good balance of handling and tread wear would be nice. Thanks for your attention

Well I just got my 1978 280Z automatic yesterday and I decided that I would change the Dist cap and rotor. The car was idling ok but a little rough. I drove it 150 miles on highway to bring it to its new home and it ran fine. Anyways, I changed the dist cap and rotor and tried to be careful to put the correct plug wire on the correct dist connector. I did not take pic of it first.....big mistake because I am not sure if I did get the plugs wires on the right connection on the dist after all. I have checked the wires for correct sequence of firing order and they are correct. The question is on orientation. Can someone take a pic of their dist and send it to me at widget777@centurytel.net with the number one plug wire clearly shown?? If you can't shoot a picture, can you tell me where the number one plug wire is relative to theh forward distributor cap retainer clamp? Thanks

I am a neophyte regarding Z engines. Do most Z engines use solid or hydraulic valve lifters? I have driven 3 Z cars in my search for a good Z car and all have had a lot of valve tappet noise. Is this normal or do the valves need to be adjusted (if they are solid lifters)?? Would they need adjustment if they were hydraulic lifters? Thanks Widget777@centurytel.net
