Compression rod bushing arrangment
I just changed mine, the old ones were installed as per the parts catalog. The new ones went in the same way, and fit perfectly. Its also logical that they would be installed that way. The load on the bushing is going to be from the body, not from the washer, therefore the heaviest portion of the bushing would go towards the body.

Compression rod bushing arrangment
The Nissan parts catalog shows them installed with the thick side of the bushing towards the frame mount.

Here is a link to a pretty cool video of nostalgia race cars and old airplanes. http://www.goodwood.co.uk/(X(1)S(m30xmxmfo2dltqziitrwzq55))/site/content/revival/Default.aspx?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1

zx 5 speed shifter modification
I am no expert but I would suggest getting numbers off your transmission to determine the year of the transmission. Im not sure about Z's but other manual transmissions take different lube, depending on what type bearings are used in the transmission. Many later transmissions use very lightweight oil, even automatic transmission fluid in some cases (no pun intended).

zx 5 speed shifter modification
Well now that you have provided me with a photo, I can update my avatar..... thanks Arne. I did see that thread, it looks like just what Ill have to do to my shift lever. I thought if I could come up with specific dimensions I could have Toni ship the lever up to Alaska so I could cut, bend and weld it here where I have the tools/equipment and then install it when I return home.

I am installing an 83 zx 5 speed into an early 240. I dont want to cut the floor pan. I need to have someone measure a modified shifter so I can cut and modify mine to the correct dimensions. Can anyone help me out?

parts for sale/ parts wanted forums?
I haven't really posted here much but I am a member of aother very popular automotive forum that has a "parts wanted" and a "parts for sale" section. It is a very good source for hard to find parts. Why doesn't the Z forum incorporate these sections?

radiator swap 280z to 260z whats the difference?
later radiator are deeper. They may be used in earlier cars but the bottom of the rad sticks down further and can be exposed to road hazards.

Nothing special about the 350z?
My 240z is a classic, Ill bet it had its naysayers in the day but it is a time tested classic. Will my 350 be a classic someday? I dont know. Do I care? No. I enjoy both cars...... Nissan/Datsun has made some more embarrasing cars than the 350z and some of them I suppose could be considered classics. I would have my eyes gouged out if I had to look at a 280 2 plus 2 everyday. sorry 2+2 enthusiasts.

Nothing special about the 350z?
I dont know... the 2005 mustang appealed to me at first but its getting boring to see all of them rolling around. Kinda like a$$holes ya know. To each his own. One thing that makes the 350z extra special is the way it tweaks all you old farts. HA HA

Nothing special about the 350z?
You shouldn take me to seriously. In my opinion the coolest looking car ever is a 1969 440 6 pack superbee. Wont stop, wont handle, wont really go without smoking the tires, but sounds and looks hot. The 350 looks pretty good in profile but from the rear or straight on it is def. lacking.

Nothing special about the 350z?
I worked for a Nissan Dealer when the 350z came out. Frankly, I didnt see what all of the hoopla was about but I can tell you that you recieved quite a bit of attention in 2003 when you drove one around. Actually I get quite a few looks when I drive mine now. Maybe the chicks are just checking me out instead....... and I thought it was the car. Im not disputing that in 1970 the z car made quite a splash but by the mid 70's it was just another car to most people. Not us car guys of course.

Nothing special about the 350z?
Wow! I didnt realize that there were so many underlying issues with the 350z among the z car community. I mean after all they are just cars. When does a hobby become an obsession? Almost seems like religous zealotry.

Nothing special about the 350z?
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Asthetics are subjective, performance is not. I agree that the 240z is more attractive and certainly turns more heads. Im not sure why the old Z crowd feels it nessesary to denigrate the 350z. Sour Grapes maybe, they should be happy that Nissan is building a car that has impacted the auto industry and presents itself quite well. Dream all you want boys but they will never build another 240. If they did you would all be crying that they devalued your cars by flooding the market with a bunch of look a likes. Do you think that your 240z recieved this much attention in the 70's when you pulled up to the grocery store? No, they were everywhere and everyone took them for granted, much like the 350z is getting to be now.

Nothing special about the 350z?
I love my 350z. Its no 240z for sure. (I have both) Its faster, runs better, stops better and handles better. I think that makes it special.
