starting problem
I had this very problem and it was the connection to the ignition resistor. Well i really don't know what it's called but there is a small box like component that sits right under the coil, if its not connected right you will experience the problem you are having. Pulled my hair damn near out until i fiddled with the connections there.

What do you think of the new 350 z?
At first i have to admit that i didn't like the 350, and my posts from this thread will bare that out. However about two weeks ago a guy that works in a building just across from me got one, so i got a good close up look and listen. I have to say it is sweet! and it sounds great, however when i pulled up in my 240 it became obvious quickly that the dude wasn't a Z guy, what a shame.

Amp meter going up as the car rev's?
I had this very same problem and it was the VR that was at fault. Daniel is quite correct in everything he said.

Ignition problem
If the ballast resistor is the small box that resides right under the coil then that was the problem. The two wires that come off it weren't connecting properly. I had narrowed it down to my crane ignition and that so now all is well. Thanks all

Ignition problem
I thought it was the switch too, but i ordered a new one from MSA and the engine still cuts out. Right now i don't even have the lock attached i just used a screw driver to turn the switch to start. Car turns over and hums, if i ease of on the switch the started will disengage but if i let it go back to on then it cuts out.

Ignition problem
I have got a problem with my ignition, the car starts fine but won't keep running. I can turn the key to start and no problem but when it goes back to ON the engine cuts out. I thought that it was the electical part of the ignition in the back of the lock so i ordered a new one from MSA, however the problem still occurs. Everything seems to be in good order, ie fuses, alternator, coil and ignition switch (the electrical module behind the lock), could my problem be the VR. If anyone has had this problem or knows an obvious solution please let me know.

350Z TV Ads
I'm not old enough to remember Z adds (my 72 was built the same year i was) so seeing the classic 240 on TV was cool. I will fully admit that i didn't like the 350 at first but i am warming to it now.

350Z TV Ads
I saw an add the other day for the 350, where it showed a progression of Z cars. The first time i've seen a 240 in an add, it was pretty damn cool i thought.

Appreciation
I believe that the 240 will always be prized over the 260 and 280 so i would imagine that 240's will price higher as time goes on. Should the 350 become a big hit in the market and more importantly find success on the track, i can only see it bringing more positive attention to the early Z's.
