I am in the middle of it right now, car is at the frame shop getting finished. I used floor pans from www.datsunrestore.com. They are great quality and fit. I also needed a section of rail from the firewall to the compression mount that I got from baddogparts. I will try to send some pics soon. Here is one from the rail section showing the damage I had, after getting into this I decided to just cut it all out and replace the pans and rails.
  2. My 71 I picked up for $1000 Plus trade of a 91 240sx I built up. Got it a year ago and only drove it 5 times before I tore it aprat. Almost done now. After I got it I found some nasty rail and floor damage and weak compresion on 2 cylinders. Engine is totally rebuilt sitting in the garage and floor pans and rails are being removed and relaced as I write this.. The list of upgrades and performance add ons goes on and on. I or my wife want to figure out the total I have in this one. I have a 90 300zx that I have redone over the past 2 years also, just needs paint. I bought that on for $5000 6 years ago and probobly have invested $5000 in the motor alone.

Flippin through ebay this am and saw this gem going for sale, a little pricey but really looks clean! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-Series-1971-Datsun-240z-JDM-Fairlady-style-COLLECTORS-Mint_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6187QQihZ013QQitemZ230065574217QQrdZ1
  5. Thanks guys for the help! I am going to swap it for the 5, worst case I can put the 4 back in within a few hours. I love these cars!
  6. The gear ratio was good? I was afraid it would be too low of gear.

  10. would pictures help??
  11. When I purchased my 71 the guy gave me a 5 speed tranny with it. I have to pull my 4 speed out to finish some frame work and was looking at all the post here on swapping tranny's. (Very Confusing). I don't want to have to swap rear diff and need to identify my 5 speed, it seems some will swap without rear changes easier. Are there numbers or something I can look for to identify what my 5 speed came out of or the year. Or should I just stay with the 4 and sell the 5...

  13. Found this on ebay this am. I have a 5 speed tranny for my 71 and have been looking for a rear so I can install it. I saw that one as I was criusing through ebay also. It looks like it has alot of cancer in it (rust).. In my opinion it would probably be alot of work to get it to original shape and show quality. On the other hand any z would be a great street criuser. My Z had a fiberglass kit on it from the original owner. My guess it was too much rust to fix it 10 years ago when he redid it. The fiberglass looks great and I still show the car but love to drive it. If the price is right how can you go wrong, it will still restore nicely with some work & $$$$

Killer score! I bet the tape works like new, they made great units, I remember my Dad putting one in his Van with some pioneer 3 ways 6x9's and bingo, he was the man...
