Rusted out floor pans
I am in the middle of it right now, car is at the frame shop getting finished. I used floor pans from www.datsunrestore.com. They are great quality and fit. I also needed a section of rail from the firewall to the compression mount that I got from baddogparts. I will try to send some pics soon. Here is one from the rail section showing the damage I had, after getting into this I decided to just cut it all out and replace the pans and rails.

how much did you pay for you're Z?
My 71 I picked up for $1000 Plus trade of a 91 240sx I built up. Got it a year ago and only drove it 5 times before I tore it aprat. Almost done now. After I got it I found some nasty rail and floor damage and weak compresion on 2 cylinders. Engine is totally rebuilt sitting in the garage and floor pans and rails are being removed and relaced as I write this.. The list of upgrades and performance add ons goes on and on. I or my wife want to figure out the total I have in this one. I have a 90 300zx that I have redone over the past 2 years also, just needs paint. I bought that on for $5000 6 years ago and probobly have invested $5000 in the motor alone.

Need help with 5 speed tranny
When I purchased my 71 the guy gave me a 5 speed tranny with it. I have to pull my 4 speed out to finish some frame work and was looking at all the post here on swapping tranny's. (Very Confusing). I don't want to have to swap rear diff and need to identify my 5 speed, it seems some will swap without rear changes easier. Are there numbers or something I can look for to identify what my 5 speed came out of or the year. Or should I just stay with the 4 and sell the 5...

New project
I saw that one as I was criusing through ebay also. It looks like it has alot of cancer in it (rust).. In my opinion it would probably be alot of work to get it to original shape and show quality. On the other hand any z would be a great street criuser. My Z had a fiberglass kit on it from the original owner. My guess it was too much rust to fix it 10 years ago when he redid it. The fiberglass looks great and I still show the car but love to drive it. If the price is right how can you go wrong, it will still restore nicely with some work & $$$$

Killer score! I bet the tape works like new, they made great units, I remember my Dad putting one in his Van with some pioneer 3 ways 6x9's and bingo, he was the man...

Carb and heater question
Did you custum fit hoses?? Never thought of that...
-
Carb and heater question
Well I live in Florida and will be driving the car for kicks mainley, I have 9 vehicles. All the heater hoses looked terible, one was orange.. The engine is ready to go in and looks great, just wanted to replace or remove junky looking stuff. The car will never be original, front & back fenders were replaced with fiberglass kit before I got it. Just didn't want to screw something up. I would never think about it if I didn't think I would use it.

Carb and heater question
This might be a dumb question but I am in the middle of fixing and removing a few things in the engine bay while the engine was built and am wondering about removing the carb heater water line and the whole hoses and adapters for the heater. I just thought it would eliminete alot of clutter in the bay and I don't see using the heater at all. I would of course save the important pipes but they all seem easy the replace if lost. Some are rusted pretty bad anyway. I am repainting the bay so I am sure I could find some rubber plugs for the firewall holes. I have some rust to repair by the heater intake on the firewall also. Any input or feelings about it would be nice to hear. Thanks guys..

!! I made it!!

Distributor Help
Thanks guys, I found the problem with the lower mount but was lucky in that the guy that sold me the distributor gave me one extra with the E12-92 modual. I used that base to mount and it seems right but I will not know til I get the cap and check TDC cyl 1. The builder set it to it and it looks like it will point right. I will get the cap and rotor today and check back.

Distributor Help
I just got the engine back from the builder and I am starting to reassemble! I picked up a electronic distributor with the E12-80 modual on it but it has no cap and rotor. My original wont fit but I have no idea what year it came off of. I need to buy the parts but need to know what year to tell the parts guy for the rotor and cap. I assume 83 would be a good guess but if anyone knows for sure it would save me the trouble. I am also wanting to can the manual fuel pump for a electric if anyone has any input I would appreciate it. On another note I am pulling out the ac unit and will most likely be getting rid of it if anyone is interested. I will list it in the parts section later.

Rust Problem!!
In the middle of engine rebuild and I am going through the engine bay, On the passenger side I see the rusted frame area. See Pic. What can I do to this? Is this something I can weld a patch to or is it really serious. I doesn't look good. I can shake the car and the split moves.
