    Yes, they do fit, but there are a few things you may want to consider. First you should relocate the seat holes so that the seat sits closer to the middle of the car. This willl keep the shoulder bolster from hitting the door. Second, the seat height will be higher than the stock 240Z seats. If you are tall, and like to sit low, or do motorsport events that require a helmet, you will need to lower the seat mounts (cutting, welding, etc). The Torinos won't go back as far as the stock seats eaither due to the recline knobs on the sides (like a VW). They are awesome seats though. I went with the Corbeau GT7s, which are alomost the same dimensions as the 240Z seat, but they do sit up higher. On the drivers side I had to fabrcate new seat mounts to lower the seat. They are awesome seats though. Hope this helps Pete

    I've got them in there. The passenger seat I installed to the stock seat supports. The seating position is a little high for me (6'2"), but I can still sit in the passenger seat without me head touching the headliner (real close). On the driver side I made new seat supports that are about 2" shorter than stock. The rear ones are practically sitting on the floor, where the front one sits about 2" off the floor. Gives me plenty of head room for a helmet, and I like stting low in a sports car anyway. Pete

    I'm in the process of upgrading my seats for track and autocross. I picked up some Corbeau GT7 seats, but they sit up way to high. Have people cut out the factory seat mounts, and just bolted the new seat rails throught the floor? I have real solid floors (Zedfindings Kit). Can I just bolt them through the floor, or should I weld some studs in? Please post comments and or suggestions. Thanks, Pete

    You can get 300HP at the crank easy with the stock L28ET long block. There are people out there pushing over 400HP with a junkyard motor. Of course to do this, you need a bigger turbo, bigger injectors, intercooling, aftermarket engine management, and lot of dyno time. My 240 has a 83' turbo long block, and the following: 36lb/hr injectors spearco intercooler 60mm throttle body programable engine management crank triggered ignition T4b/T3 turbo custom downpipe etc., etc. Over the next month or so I'll be getting it back on the dyno. It's incredibly fast. I figure it's in the 300HP ball park, but I won't know for sure until it's fine tuned on the dyno. As far as the drivetrain handling it, no problem. I figure my car is putting around 270-300ft-lbs to the wheels, and the 280Z 5speed is holding up fine. I'm running a 3.7:1 R200 LSD, and it shows know signs of failure. I run this car in autocrosses and in 2 to 3 track events a year (it gets driven hard). It will roast both tires in second gear easily. Pete

    Here is what a Rebello 3L sounds like through a 3" exhaust with only a Supertrapp. The owner is a good freind, and wears ear plugs on long trips..... MP3 sound file

    A good combo is the NA F54 block (flat tops), and an N42(square), or N47 (round) head. The resulatnt CR is 9.82:1 with the stock gasket, and 10.08:1 with the Felpro. I just built one, and will be firing it up in the next month or so. I'll be tuning it on a dyno (track only car), so I'll post some dyno plots when I'm done tuning. Another option is to use the same block, but use a P79 or P90 head. But you will need to mill the head, and shim the cam towers to get the CR much above 8.5:1. BTW, the stock CR for the F54 turbo is 7.4:1. This is perfect for high boost applications, but that's a whole different thread... Pete

    My 280Z sounds awesome from outside the car, and quiet over 3k RPM. Anything below 2500RPM resonates badley in the passenger compartment. Pete

    I swapped the guts from a 75' tach into my 72' housing, and it works much better than the 240Z tach ever did. I always had problems with the needle jumping around when the car interior got hot. Anyway, it's and easy swap, and well worth the effort. One note, if you 240Z tach is a current sensing type (probably, if it is a 72' or earlier), remeber that the ignition coil gets powered through the 240Z tach. If you unplug the tach from the harness, you will need to make sure that you are still getting 12v at the + terminal of ignition coil when the ignition switch is on.I think I just made a jumper to direct power to the positive terminal on the coil. You also may need to run a new wire from the negative terminal on the tach, back to the input terminal on te 280Z tach. Pete

    I've got a 78 280Z that I'd like to quiet the exhaust down on. Here is the current setup: Stock engine MSA header 2.5" pipe 28" glasspack next drive shaft Small turbo muffler at rear Right now I get a loud resonance at around 2000RPM. I added the glasspack this winter hoping it would quiet it down, and it did, but not nearly enough. I'd be willing to go back to the exhaust manifold if needed, but I would like it to breath almost as good as it does now (pretty decent high RPM power). I'd rather not go to a stock setup, but I just might. What are others running? What is the best combination that will keep the sound level down, but not choke the exhaust flow. Any suggestions appreciated.

    For those of you that haven't heard, the annual ZCCA Convention is being hosted by the Z Car Club of New England. Along with many other activities, there will be a day of motorsports. Complete convention information can be found here: http://www.zccne.addr.com/Convention_2003/index.htm We have New Hampshire International Speedway (NHIS) for the day. This includes the 1.6 mile road course, and a large parking lot for autocross. We are only allowing a maximum of 70 cars to participate in the road course lapping. We have about half that still available. For those of you that participate in track days, or have your competition license, this is a good opportunity to drive a very challenging road course. Perhaps better known for its 1 mile oval, upon which several well-publicized NASCAR events are held each year, NHIS also features a 1.6 mile multi-configuration road course which utilizes some of the oval's wide banked surface combined with some narrower change-in-elevation hairpin turns. In the course of a year, NHIS is host to two NASCAR Busch Grand National North races, a NASCAR Winston Cup race, an Indy car race, monthly SCCA events, and various motorcycle races. The Pro races are all run on the oval. The primary user’s of the road course is the SCCA and clubs like COMSCC that using it for driving schools and time trials. NHIS is located in Loudon, New Hampshire, less than an hour north of the New Hampshire/Massachusetts border. There are two well-stocked Fuel/Convenience stores about 1 mile south of the track on Route 106. Garages are available for rent. Contact the track for details. The inner paddock is completely paved. Unlike many tracks, you need never leave asphalt from the moment you enter NHIS. Make sure your brakes and brake lines are in good shape - Turn 3 is utterly unforgiving of brake failure. Fresh DOT 4 fluid and installing new pads is usually a good place to start. Racing gas is available. Call the track for flavors and prices. There are used oil and antifreeze collection tanks in the paddock. The media center is in the building between the restaurant and the front straight - this is where the second classroom session is. There is an air conditioned restaurant (The Checkered Flag) which serves all sorts of usual track food. Tech Inspection is done on the Grid, just inside of Pit Lane. Other tidbits: · The SCCA will provide corner workers · NASCAR safety/rescue crew will be at the track. · SCCA and COMSCC instructors will help with those who have little to no track experience. · There will be a lunch time session for those with full competition licenses. This includes the “guest”drivers. · There will be a Track Tour session. · Track restaurant will be open for breakfast and lunch – race fuel will be available. · Clam bake/Lobster boil that night. We have scheduled the event so that people can do both the road course, and the autocross. The autocross is being run by the local BMW club. From my experience, their autocross courses are both challenging, and fun. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly.
