Well I Made it Backto Classic Z cars
Welcome back to the site, and congrats on getting everything moved and sorted-that is always a PITA! I still think that you should try getting a Lambo engine in a nice Z shell...o the fun...

The Z Shop?
While it is not a bad idea, there is already a shop like that in your area. http://www.zbarn.com/ is in Maryville, TN and is just about 2 hours away.

Gt-r
Well, GT stands for one thing is this particular situation, Grand Tourer/Gran Turismo; but I'm sure it does indeed mean other things in other situations.... But about the car at hand, the Nissan GT-R... I like the overall look of the car, though I would really need to see it in person to tell if all the lines work together. When I first saw the Bugatti Veyron in print, I thought it looked a bit off. Interesting to be sure, but not what I would consider beautiful. I have since had the privilege to see the Veyron in person (still working on getting to drive it), and find it to be a work of automotive art-both gorgeous and intimidating simultaneously. I expect the same to be true of the GT-R (I just hope I get to see one up close someday soon!).

Online tire purchase experience?
I did consider the 205/60x14 in Sumitomo's but the difference in wheel diameter was a concern. According to Tire Rack, there would be a 6 mph difference between the two, and I didn't really want to deal with that. And as for the speed rating, sure higher would be nicer, but I don't race the car, so I figure that a top sustainable speed of 118 mph will do fine. On top of that, these are all season tires that will be doing snowy(ish) mountain driving, so grip and overall traction outweigh top end performance. I have Z rated tires (Kuhmo) on the M roadster (in Florida), and those things are great, unless there is a hint of frost (car lived in Taos NM for a bit) or a fair amount of rain. But at 135 mph you feel glued to the road...

280z turbo
Well, it would be much easier just to get the entire turbo engine and wiring harness, ECU, and fuel pump from a turbo ZX... Save yourself some time that way. Though, you may be more interested in building up your engine as is (i.e N/A). If you want to autocross, you don't want to find yourself waiting for the turbo to do its thing. case in point-last year at ZdayZ, I was able to keep up with twin turbo Z 32's on all the twisty bits in my N/A stock L28 driven 280zx. How? Why? What? It's not that I have a faster car. I don't. However, I had all my horses waiting for me, whenever I wanted them. The turbo cars had to wait until they hit a certain RPM until their horses showed up-and on those roads one is constantly shifting so the turbos never had a chance to spool enough to matter.

Online tire purchase experience?
Well, I am finally getting around to installing the Western wheels that I've had in my living room for a while. I had my eyes, heart, and wallet on the Sumitomo HTR H4's (195/70HR-14), but in doing my prepurchase research (through Tire Rack & Sumitomo), I found that the appropriate sized tires were not designed to fit a 14x7" rim, only 14x5-6.5". Curious as I was about that last .5" and if it really mattered (it is just a quarter inch difference per sidewall, after all), I called up Tire Rack to inquire. Apparently it is indeed a matter of concern, otherwise Sumitomo would have specified that it would fit my particular application, and that it would most likely be a bad thing to use them. So, I asked about several other sizes and how they would effect my speed (all that they had that would fit required more revolutions to cover a mile-not good). I asked about about comparable tires-both in quality and price, and the person I was speaking with suggested Yokohama AVID T4 (P215/60TR-14). The revolution per mile difference is negligible, and the price was just a bit higher. The whole conversation was quick, easy, and pleasant. I am having the tires drop shipped at a recommended installer, and I hope that the installers are equally easy to work with. FWIW

So Cal Wildfires
Jason, if you haven't already: Fill up your evacuation vehicles with gas now...not later! Pack up some essentials/valuables and put them in the car. Include a variety of emergency foods, water, clothes, a couple blankets, etc... Throw it all in the car(s) and be ready to go. I had to do this in Big Sur back in 1997 when I could see the fire cresting the ridges all around where I lived and worked. Even though it was a five minute walk to work, I drove just in case my manager and I were given the order to scoot. Just be ready, and be safe.

Kaminari Body Kits
Good luck with the install, and do post photos! Comments on quality and any sizing/molding issues would be beneficial to all.

Kaminari Body Kits
Perhaps my phrasing was poor in my opening statement-it would certainly make sense that Kaminari styled their kit after the Newman car. Still, I am happy to know that kits were available for the s130 that look pretty cool.

Kaminari Body Kits
Carl, I hope you don't mind that I have reposted your scan of the BSR Catalog. I was quite happy to finally know where the cladding for the '83 Bob Newman car came from, as I quite like that kit. So, I looked up Kaminari on google and found the website. Alas, they are no longer distributing the kit for my zx, but the do have kits for the S30's. Just thought some folks might like to know. http://www.kaminari.com/products.htm

Hello from Utah
Welcome to the site! Now that you've rebuilt the engine, I guess you should expect another 300,000 miles from the car!

Look at my z240k
That is a striking modification! I think we would all love to see more photos of that one!

Anyone here drive thier Z during the Winter ?
The ZX is my daily driver, and I drive about 300-350 miles per week, up and down some of the prettiest (and twistiest) mountain roads in North Carolina, year 'round. Like the Post Office, the car always delivers, be it rain, sleet, or snow (and good weather as well). From last year, our first snowfall found me fenderless, which made it easier to remove the salt they dump on the roads...

Hurry up and bid on this Ebay Gem!
That is tempting, but it's an automatic... Seriously, though- that is a lovely car, but I wish the seller had posted some close ups of the dogleg area, battery tray, and rails. I think the seller either doesn't want to sell, or has been watching too much of the auction shows.

Your best
My favorite would have to be this one, taken just after I got my little one home. Look at how clean those rims were... And the second shot I just like, don't know why (though I love the car and wish it were mine).

Ever feel like an Idiot?
I had a headlight burn out, and for the life of me I couldn't get the lamp mount out of the car to replace the bulb. So what did I do? I took off the front quarter panels.:stupid: Now, if I had just pushed a little harder (just a little), the mount plate would have just slid right out...

I have to find these!!!
Junk/scrap yard. As I was talking to the owner about these two, he told me that just last week he sold a complete 280z. When asked about the condition of this now gone item, he said the buyer was able to start it up and drive it away. If only I'd gotten there last week...

Paint scheme Zero
How about moving the Z/280 graphic so it is over the red circle. That way, those in the know would know what you were referring to, others might just think it a race design. Perhaps the photo below will explain better.
