? about license plates
Not all states require two plates. New Mexico and North Carolina do not require them, but there is talk of NC changing that.

Not Z related, but I had to share...
Regarding the videos-I wonder what the real story is behind them. I've lived in Wyoming, and one does go a bit stir crazy, but to hack into a TV transmission seems a bit extreme (not to mention very illegal). I did see some strange things when I lived there though...

Help with brakes
Bill, I had a metal on metal grind in my front left brake, and I was going through a res. of fluid every few days. For me, the problem was a poorly connected (loose) brake line-caliper side. Once I tightened it up, the grinding went away and the fluid didn't. I could be something that simple. FWIW

it won't start!!!
First off, welcome to the club. Second, the search function is your friend. Why do you think the problem is AFM related? The car getting too much gas could be caused by any number of things. Are all of your electrical connections clean and well connected? How old is your thermostat and water temperature sensor? How about the fuel filter? In addition to the search feature on our site, our friends in Canada have a wonderful site with loads of tutorials that you should probably check out as well. http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/ Good luck, and post back with any more questions and/or solutions for those that follow.

Online Z Car registry
I added a couple cars that I know of that should be considered DOA or Parts cars, including the city located, in the comment/misc area. This might help people search for parts in their area.

Online Z Car registry
Mike, do you want just our cars, or would you like us to post cars that we know of (i.e. parted out cars/shells, etc.), assuming we have a good amount of info?

Does anyone have headlight covers on a silver Z?
Darbji, just to make your decision more difficult, have you considered the smoked lenses? http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/HC/50-1043 I think they would look sharp on a silver car.

Problem with Spark Plug Amplifier?
Welcome to the site, and congratulations on driving a Z car. There is a great site devoted solely to your model Z, the Z31, that you will want to check out: http://www.z31.com/ or this one http://www.thumper300zx.com/ I'm not trying to push you away from here, but you will find much more information about your car there than here, since this site deals mainly with the earlier years, though there are several z31 owners here.

who gots balls
Ditto on that, Jason. Look at it this way though, you'll never get a speeding ticket if you never go faster than Zero, even in top gear with foot to the floor:stupid: Now I know that would never fly in court, but it does get your passengers thinking...

Country Music
Mr. Camo, the only thing I can say is this There's a tear in my beer for you. But do you know what happens when you play a country song backwards? You get your wife back, your money back, your truck back, and your dog comes back to life!

Help in finding my old racecar
Surely, along with having the VIN, you've got some photos to post. Those two things would go a long way in helping us help you.

Summer 07 issue of Nissan Sport
Art, I ordered/paid for a subscription at ZdayZ on May 19, and have not received the magazine yet. I live in North Carolina (zip code 28717) and am surprised at not having gotten it yet when members in neighboring states/cities have. Was my subscription processed? I paid cash, so there is no way for me to check. That issue aside, I think the magazine is quite nice, and I find the member rides section to be rather interesting. BTW, I see that you don't have any S130 project cars to work on. I just happen to have a car in mind (mine), but I will want it back when you are done:laugh:

I miss my Z!!!
Here's a possible solution to your cravingz- http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270149172156&indexURL=2#ebayphotohosting right now at $137, and located in Littleton. Could be a good parts car back in Reno, but for now something to work on... and it is apparently owned by a Porsche elitist.

Let's see some wheels!
I'm surprised that no one loaded the ol' iron cross. Not to worry, here are mine (when they were clean), a closer shot of the cross on a potential parts car, and a dirty Western rim from the old parts car. All are 14x7.

Nissan says: what's a 280z?
From what I've seen on the 'ole wikipedia, 1983 was the last year of anything being sold as "Datsun." The Nissan 300zx (Z31) would be the first of the Z line (if you will) with the Nissan moniker sold in the US.
-
Nissan says: what's a 280z?
The only exterior markings that designate my ZX as a Nissan product is located on the hatch, lower right corner. The VIN changeover from our type (S30 or S130) to the 17 digit mess happened for the 1981 model year (far as I can figure, anyway), so the later years of the 280zx had the long version. From DMV.org: You entered an invalid VIN: hs130150591 Your VIN needs to be: * Exactly 17 characters. * For a vehicle manufactured after 1980 (1981 or later model year). * Without the letters I, O or Q. thus making online databases (CARFAX, et. al) useless for us.
-
Nissan says: what's a 280z?
The local dealer that I've tried dealing with insisted that I had the wrong VIN because it wasn't long enough. I explained that my 79 was built before the changeover, but the counterperson refused to believe me. I had to pull the car around and show them the door jamb AND firewall stamp before being believed. Then the issues with searching for parts on the computer began... Courtesy Nissan and Zbarn for me.

Project Halted - What to do?
Ditto with Carl. I used to have a great 75 Fiat Spider, great to drive and fairly reliable. I had a chance to move to Wyoming, and knew that the little Fiat probably A) wouldn't make it, and wasn't able to move all my stuff (we all need a place for our stuff). Shipping my few belongings was out of the question, so I had to get a larger vehicle (Buick). I GAVE the Fiat to a friend (it was stolen a month later), and while I miss it from time to time, I wouldn't be where I am if I had kept it. Sell the Z, either as a package deal or for parts; apply the money to your education, or deposit it into a high yield account (online banks are great for this). Set your priorities, and keep them. Good luck.

New to me
Looks good! Are you going to keep those classic blue plates on the car?

How Close Are Our VIN #'s
Just uploaded the parts car Will and I tore apart. Seems to work fine, though I think it odd that there isn't a "save changes" option. It did keep my additions though, so all appears well. Perhaps this should remain on the front page so that all will see it and hopefully add their data to it.

First Datsun owner. Socal.
Absolutely. Rust is rust, and dealing with it is the same in all our cases. Basically speaking, the engine (l28) is the same thing from the 75-78 280z, only ours have more emissions stuff and a different "brain." Suspension and steering setups are different, as are other things, but still, there is much to be learned.

First Datsun owner. Socal.
Welcome to the club! I too have a ZX, and love how relatively easy it is to work on. While this site is mainly geared to the earlier models, you will be amazed at how much info relates to our model. A suggestion: Start looking for the FSM (Factory Service Manual) for your year. Epay would be your best bet. I was rather lucky in that my car came with the manual, and it has been a great reference.
