  1. Matt, welcome to the site, it's always nice to see another zx show up, and yours seems a beaut! I've got a 79 as well, so if you need specifics from the Factory Service Manual, I can help. Do you have any photos of the frame rails? They may not be as bad as you think; but if they are, replacements can be purchased from zeddfindings at http://www.datsunzparts.com/start.htm Do you know anything about those rims-I've not seen that design before. anyway, enjoy the site, check out the search function, and head over to http://zhome.com/ for a checklist of things to look for when purchasing your next z car.

Indeed, welcome to the site-look closely for rust in all sorts of places and take your time when looking for your next car.

I would try the Zbarn-It's a one person operation, so leave a message and you will get called back. There is more stuff available than is listed on the website, so call, even if the stuff you need isn't listed. http://www.zbarn.com/
  4. If you want to move to heaven, just scoot over to New Mexico (preferably Santa Fe). Beautiful sky, clean air, arid weather, great winters that don't feel that cold, even if it is...I miss it. By the way, do you Texans know the name of your largest State Park? New Mexico (just go there in the summer and look at the license plates-am I right NM members?)
  5. I am not trying to hijack the thread with this question, just trying to clarify something- When you drain the old fluid (from the tranny, or the differential) with the intention of using a synthetic (like redline), is it necessary to somehow flush out the old dino based lubricant? I've been thinking about replacing the liquids in both, but would like to do it correctly, and I imagine that Adam would want to do the change correctly as well.

I personally like spray silicon, stuff works very well, it's clear and doesn't affect paint-so overspray isn't a problem, repels water (great for door locks), and makes the radio antenna slide up and down much smoother than before, all without any sort of greasy, oily residue. Perhaps a reasonably liberal amount sprayed onto the boot, or the wiper assy. would help. FWIW

You know they aren't going to fix that, so I wonder how much it will go for at the insurance auction... but I agree, I'd much rather a Skyline for many reasons, not the least of which (in comparison) is having a back seat, and a trunk that is worth something. Of course, I doubt the trunk on the Super Skyline is functional, but at least there is some interior space.

Which would you rather have- a $1.5million supercar, or a car that acts and performs like one for (one would assume) much less money? http://driving.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/driving/jeremy_clarkson/article596580.ece

Nate, Out of curiosity, what year/model Z are you trying to attach this alt. to? I know that zx alternators can be used on earlier Z cars, but in order for this to work, a couple things need to happen first. I couldn't tell you what they are, but a quick search of the site will yeild that info, should it be what you are needing.

A couple thoughts to try some CD cleaner, since as I understand it, that stuff gets into the scratches and blends it away. Could be wrong, and if I am, then you have some stuff to repair your scratched CDs. How about stuff for cleaning plastic glasses-check at LensCrafters or any other glasses shop.
  12. What's this about? Here's a shot of the engine, for future thread reference. Also, is that the original steering wheel?
  13. beautiful shots of a georgous car-have fun and take loads more photos! Like you should talk, Mohamed-doing doughnuts on the freeway . http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25104 just kidding
  14. Thought everyone might like to know

This one looks pretty good, especially the part where the owner is willing to trade this car (and all the goodies) for something of equal value. Claims to have an uncracked dash, comes with extra engine & trannie, and a kick arse gas pedal -seller seems pretty straightforward about the condition...definately worth looking at

Perhaps the ZX will be the daily driver while the roadster is finished, after all the hatch area is quite accomodating for a whole bunch of roadster parts.

I've got a '79, I would imagine that the fusebox is the same. If not, I am sure someone will chime in and provide the correct info. Congrats on the ZX purchase-I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself.
  20. Well, that's a tenth anny all right, but something just doesn't add up about that car, or the seller. If I had just rebuilt the engine, I would be driving the car. If I were to sell the car, I would ask for enough to get the engine rebuild cost back, if not a little more. I would also fix that tail light, since that part is still available. I imagine there is more amiss than the seller is letting on, but maybe that's just me.

Carl-the engine compartment ID is still there, I took a shot of it but it came out poorly. I believe it was 1284, but I could be wrong (probably am). zwhore-the hatch was glassless, but I think it was in decent shape. I will get more info, as well as a contact number. Next time I go over (it's in Brevard), I'll get some better shots, and hopefully some shots of the race prepped 240 that was in the shop, as well as the mini and the Berkeley. There were a couple Triumphs in various states of assembly, an MGB gt (under wraps, but I know that shape ) and then there were some cars in the back that I didn't see... (included is a shot of a restored Berkeley-they are SMALL)

Since I've only lived in NC with the zx, I've only had experience on the roads here, and they can be great fun, assuming traffic is on your side. However, the drive from Big Sur to Carmel Valley (CA) is great fun, especially once you get to know the roads, and can handle speed... Dubois (WY) to Jackson Hole (via Togwotee Pass)-an hour and a half of sheer beauty, and sheer cliffs of peril... Taos to Santa Fe (NM) has some good parts, mostly around Taos; Santa Fe Ski Valley (in the off season) to the Blue Corn Cafe for a pint of Plaza Porter, an order of Wings of Fire, and a bowl of tortilla soup... Cuidad de Mexico-all of it -if you're a sadist(not recommeded in a Z) Poza Rica to Texcoco-gorgeous driving (badish roads), lots of traffic, but the twisties

    Interesting idea-certainly worth trying...Thanks!

There's no reason to go for a slow build of a Turbo engine, they can still be found in junkyards (and some of our members have some for sale in the classifieds, for that matter). Frame rails have been mentioned, but here are a couple shots to show how bad they can be, and a shot of my rusty fuel sending unit, straight out of the tank. (yours will be different, if you find an earlier model-this is just for example). Welcome to the club, take your time when buying, and enjoy the ride.
  25. I don't know the history of this car, but it caught my eye in January, and it hasn't moved since then. Anyway, I thought the paint job was interesting. Enjoy.
