Cold Start Valve will not turn off/close
It's really slow at work (front gate job, fancy 99% seasonal housing community) so I jut pulled the Cold Start Valve and found it to be messy, but dry. The PCV valve was once again wet (I wiped it dry after the last photos were taken), indicating who know what as the culprit. As per the FSM, I've tried blowing air through the valve, and am not able to.

Cold Start Valve will not turn off/close
Not to terribly long ago, I started smelling gas after I parked the car. I poked around a little and quickly found gas on the PCV valve. By on, I mean you touch the valve and your finger becomes wet with gasoline. As far as I can tell, the only way gasoline could reach the valve would be via the Cold Start Valve. Thinking that the valve may be staying on longer than neccessary, I replaced the thermostat, checked the cleanliness of the sensors, and cleaned all the connections on the various thermostat mounted items (one was green with corrosion). Put everything back together, and drove 3.5 miles to work. I thought it best to check all my connections for leaks once I got to work, and found the smell of gas once again. The PCV valve was one again wet with gas, so I do believe that the cold start valve is simply staying open/on. I have disconnected the contact to the valve, and will see if this helps. If not, is there a way to "convince" the valve to close? I was thinking about removing it and soaking it in a solution of some sort, perhaps carby cleaner, in case some crud made its way in there and is preventing it from closing. Any thoughts or suggestions? I have a fire extinguisher in the car, and I really don't want to have to use it.

I agree with Chris on the zx 2+2, they're just ugly, IMHO. If you want a 2+2 for the extra space and fake seating, get yourself a first gen 2+2-the lines are neat and clean, they still have a classic design.

Bought another one today.
Tony, you are insatiable. Congratulations on your new addition, and where are the photos??

New vintage Japanese car website and forum...
logged in as zbane over there-the datsun/nissan forum is growing. I think it'd be great to get the complete Z line over there, and there are still a few years not represented (daddz filled most of the slots ) Couple of roadsters, hopefully more will show, then of course the Skylines need to be represented...ah, hell, the list just goes on. It will be interesting to see how this site develops, since it is devoted to so many makes-could be fun.

TERRIBLE NEWS! ... Nis-san Dream Car Ga-rage Crushed?
I wonder where this ended up. I wonder how hard it would be to swap... after all, if I were to ever do an engine swap, I'd want to stay in the family, seems only right.

need body kit for 78 280z(2+2)
Motorsport auto http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/CTGY/7SS the nose and tail pieces should be the same as a coupe, the only difference should be the side skirts, 3/4 windows, and perhaps the rear glass (not sure about that) the items you are looking for are out there, the fun is in the hunt

Do you agree with this?
I would suggest asking Oliver, since he posted those suggestions on his site. The few times I've spoken with him, he sounded like he knew what he was talking about, so I imagine he has some good reason for this stuff.

It would be so nice if they were relegated to our individual garages!

240z Audio System
Don't cut any holes unless you absolutely must. Why not look into getting yourself some 1" speakers that mount directly on your pillar, either the A pillar, or perhaps the shock pillar (be creative) Here is an example http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8210777&st=car+speakers&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1166236336377 sorry, no photo Might I also suggest that you visit a local custom audio shop, they often have goodies available for the hot rodders (hidden components/speakers-premium sound) that big box stores may not have.

saying hi.
Lovely car in the photos, and I'm sure the photos don't do it justice! Regarding the tires, I just wish Goodyear would continue to produce the Eagle GT tires, I'd been using the GT II's for several years, and was really pissed when I found out they were NLA.

Mistaken/ficticious/humorous identities
Someone once mistook me for someone that gave a damn. Does that count? I have been accused of being a "Smart @ss," to which I always reply: "I'd rather be a Smart @ss than a Dumb $hit, anyday!" Those that get it, shut up-those that don't, don't. If any of you are ever called a smart @ss, please feel free to use that response.

TERRIBLE NEWS! ... Nis-san Dream Car Ga-rage Crushed?
Now, kids, don't make me pull over. I'll do it, and I'll leave you on the side of the highway (the information superhighway, that is) so quit poking your brother in the eye! It would be foolheardy of Nissan to have the cars crushed, and I hope they didn't do such a stupid thing. If they did do such a stupid thing, then I, for one, would be really upset and heartbroken. The problem with using "unnamed sources" or "sources who wish to remain anonymous" is obvious-who to believe, who to trust? When Woodward and Bernstein dove into the Watergate scandle, they were given information by "Deep Throat" (Mark Felt), but their editors refused to allow them to use any of DT's information, unless it could be verified by no less than three quotable sources. There has got to be some verifiable sources of information out there, either for the crushing story, or against it. Find that information, then come back to the thread and make your case.

The Classified Section, online or in print. There are also other websites that are more devoted to the latter Z cars that might be worth checking into, and then there is always ebay...- HI, I am really NEW!
Will, Congratulations on the new member! Now you have the perfect excuse to get yourself a 2+2 Zed since that rear seat is only fit for use by very small people... Tristan-unless you help your dad out by cutting down on the diaper usage, odds are that he won't finish that car until you are old enough to drive. Welcome to the world, little one.- Why would you want a 280?
Thanks, Mike, now I feel really inferior:stupid: . No, just kidding-you are right. My beloved, while equiped with the same L28 as the 280z, puts out a sorry excuse for power, at least when compared to its older brothers. I think the important thing to remember here is that all the older Z cars are incredible, even if they are flawed in one way or another. My ZX is underpowered, and a little overweight, but I love it just the same:love: . Does that mean that I would never consider buying an older Z car? Hell no:finger: , I'd love to add to the collection and discover that little something that defines each model. Be safe out there.- I HATE people on Ebay...
Here is why the buyer doesn't want to cooperate-he wants a FREE computer. Dr. Detroit purchased a laptop from you, for double what you expected (great for you, bad for him) Dr. Detroit figured out that he "overpaid," and now wants money back. It took two weeks for this person to figure out a plan to rip you off (it's ok, he thinks, 'cause you "ripped him off" first) So, Mr. Dumbbutt decides to claim that he never got the package. If he were to sign whatever paperwork, it would be found that he did get the package. Good luck, and stick to your guns-you're in the right here.- Found this in the attic...
I can see the relationship, recessed headlight buckets, concave hood, 3/4 windows. I don't for a second believe that the Japanese designers "copied" anything, but I think that they probably left the meeting with some "fresh" ideas in thier heads. It would be a pretty poor designer who didn't attempt to learn from others ideas. Outright copying would not be acceptable, of course, but seeing something you like, changing it to fit your needs and running with it is what design is all about. Let's face it, the original Z cars were modeled (or inspired by,to some extent) other vehicles of the time. Thanks for posting that link, Carl.- Stock- Which is the quickest?
and then there is the sad, sad 132hp 280zx. Yes, I'm crying.- desperately need a left door patch panel
Have you checked with Tabco? http://www.tabcobodyparts.com/html/table_of_contents.htm Doorskin 8H 167 30 L-R $28.75 otherwise, Zedd Findings might be a wise choice (do a search, this place is highly recommended) http://www.datsunzparts.com/NewParts/bodyf.htm good luck, and happy hunting! - Selling a 300zx
