crazy idea here, but if the edges have been rounded off by the wrench, how about using a ratchet and breaker bar? I might think that if there are still six decent flat edges, and you were able to grasp all six together, you might be able to get around not having 6 defined corners ... Of course I could be completely off base here, but it may be worth trying...
  2. US $368.61 Well bought, Jerry, well bought!
  3. For your consideration-Original Triple Webber Carbs! This is a 71 Datsun 240z HLS30 MFG, Date 5/71 One of 50 in this special run series. Now I don't know a lot about this car as it was inherited to me. But I will tell all that I know about it, you can email me what questions you might have about it. There is a triple carb. on this which are webber. The body does have rust but is straight. All original everything, it currently does not run and would have to be trailored. The engine is a big inline 6 cylinder 3 carb. Yes it has the original triple carb. Wide fender wells, all tires are flat some badly damaged. The battery is gone, all ignition wires are also gone. It was running before these were removed so it does run. The reverse gear in tranny is totally ground off, as well as the idler gear, the hydraulic cylinder on the clutch engagement in not working. Otherwise the pictures say most everything else http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/71-Datsun-240Z-hls30-project-car_W0QQitemZ270066316175QQihZ017QQcategoryZ6187QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

  6. It shouldn't make that much of a difference. Here is a page out of my FSM (for a zx), that might give you a couple places to check. I'm sure others will chime in with more relevant help. EVEN BETTER: from atlanticz.ca (great tech reference) the EFI Bible http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/efisystem/280zfuelinjectionbook.pdf
  7. don't you have a different car you could sell? If you can't put this one in storage for a short time, then sell off the other, use this one to move to your new job.

Welcome to the club, you're not the first person to have gotten bogged down with other things, wishing that you could get back to the project. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24044 Just remember, if it was easy, it wouldn't be worth it.

Those are beautiful, glad you were able to get them posted. Now, if you go to the USER CP section, you can go about loading photos into your personal gallery, and load a photo to use as your Avatar. I'm sure everyone here would like to see all that documentation, and your photo gallery is the place to show them, and preserve them for posterity...

Welcome to the Club, I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself here! When I first signed up, I too had problems uploading. The problem I had all was resolved when I scaled down the image file size. I've not had a problem since. Maybe that will help.
  11. Now, that's the type of surprise I think we would all prefer to recieve! Congratulations on the well bought Z, remember- you didn't choose her, she chose you! Treat her right, I know you will!

It may also help us help you, if you were to specify what state you are in, since we have a world wide membership. Altoona shows up in PA, IA, and WI. You never know, somebody near you may have something available in your neighborhood. Anyway, good luck.

Right now, it's at one grand, and even though it isn't in the best of condition, I think that is a fair price for that VIN. If you had the extra space, and some cash for discretionary spending, it might be nice to get, just to have for now. Shore it up some, to keep the rust at bay, and dive in later on; or sell it further down the road. My concern about this one is that someone might get it without caring about its low vin status, and cut it up for parts then scrap it.
  15. Only a fool would sell this car, and judging from the time and effort you have invested in it, you are no fool. KEEP THE CAR (or send it to theianmonster, for safekeeping-free of charge, since he just lost his beloved), or you will regret it something fierce. Seriously, if you MUST sell it, take your time and check out her suitors, and thier intentions, that way you will at least be able to rest easy knowing she is in GREAT (not just good) hands.

Caleb, The Corolla will give you years of trouble free usage, provided you take care of the basics (oil, radiator, etc.). They are good, safe vehicles, just be sure to lock it up, Corollas are usually near the top of the stolen car list, but that changes yearly. Just remember that ALL the money you will save by having such a sensible vehicle MUST go to the Z, lest she become VERY jealous.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1979-280zx-R-Pre-Production-Version-only-1000-ever-made_W0QQitemZ150067083984QQihZ005QQcategoryZ6187QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem 280zx-R buy it now $25,000 Snip-There is a parking-lot crease in the driver side door in the black decal area courtesy of some idiot. There are small areas of rust under the windshield air vent, near the fuel filler cap and under the left tail light assembly. The bottom seams of both doors are, typically enough, rusted out. TYPICAL? I've got a 79 as well, one that live where snow is present, and my doors are fine. This guy is either dreaming, or going through the motions of trying to sell, knowing full well he won't. I will say this for the seller, he does fess up to some other issues as well, like old gas and tires, but all these should have been dealt with prior to listing. 25 grand for a car you CANNOT drive home? I think not.

How does this plate compare to other pre1970 plates, like those from a roadster? Perhaps Nissan was just using the plate stamper they used for them (just with a different model number), since it already had the obligatory Federal disclaimer on it. Maybe.
  20. I agree Carl, The Z8 is a stunning car. Unfortunately, it also has a stunning price tag. It would be near the top of my lotto wish list as well. As I understand, the Z1 was originally meant to be an affordable sports car(hence the "1" nomenclature) that sported the newest technologies and innovations, something that Nissan did with the Z line. However, BMW farmed out the production of the car, and the price of manufacture shot out of control.
  21. Let's see- 2 tickets to the movies $16+popcorn, soda, candy @$20+four quarters, $1 (duh)=the Cheapest Z you will EVER buy, and the cheapest to maintain!
  22. I stumbled on this site, so far as I can tell, it shows various Wats in varying sizes on a wide variety of Datsuns/Nissans. I thought it might be of interest, less for the rims, more for the thoroughness of models depicted. There are a lot of photos, and it will take some time to load, but it's worth it. http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://www.rs-watanabe.co.jp/userspage_new/nissan.htm&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=4&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3Ddatsun%2B200zg%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:en-US You'll be at the end when this one shows up, gotta love the side pipes. Also, each thumb has multiple shots, have fun looking around!
  23. Carl, the proposition you put together for the new Z is truly magnificent, I wish it had been adopted and allowed to come to fruition. Now, take a look at this-produced from 1998-2000, the BMW z1. Imagine it with sugar scoops, and a hatch. Additionally, it's got the inline 6, and front hinged hood. Apparently the production quality of these was rather poor, and they were overpriced and underpowered, but the lines are pretty nice and the intention was right, IMO. So, both BMW and Toyota have felt that the traditional sports coupe design is viable, perhaps when the refresh of the next 350 happens, the design heads will take a chance. Maybe they should be reintroduced to Carl's design package.

Like I said, it has some "issues." I wonder what is up with those wires hanging out under the nose, then of course the year issue, the FI engine, rust, etc. OK, yes, it has some SERIOUS issues.

Yes, I know it's Scarab, but apparently the owner doesn't. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-z-series-1974-260z_W0QQitemZ130054584189QQihZ003QQcategoryZ6187QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem More photos would be very nice, it's hard to tell if it is an actual Scarab or just a V8 conversion with a Whale tail.
