  1. I am petitioner #60796, thanks for posting this thread, I had no idea "they" were trying to pull TopGear from the airwaves.

For those in other states: When I first moved here from New Mexico, I was confounded by the whole "Upstate" thing. While no one has been able to explain the reasoning behind "Upstate," what it refers to is the Northern part of South Carolina. Watch the news, listen to the radio-everyone in northern South Carolina is from the Upstate. FWIW. What really gets me is the term Kakalaki.

Then of course, there's the Starter Fluid, not to be confused with Mid-way Fluid, or Nearly All Done Fluid. Finishing Fluid is a different matter, mainly used as a replacement for the Differential Matter, when that matters differently.

Are there any Pick and Pull junkyards in your area? If I recall correctly, there are a fair number around the Queen city.

280~master, You seem to have forgotten that ZX's have a rear window washer as well. Therefore let me add to your otherwise mostly complete list: 6a. Rear window fluid (10w-30, lighter viscosity needed due to aerodynamic and gravitational forces, UNLESS you are using the rear wiper while IN REVERSE! Doing this is not only unwise, but it requires the addition of a pump reverse flow containment meter {reverses/exchanges fluid from front tank to rear tank; part #122-wd-40, NLA},automatic 3-way deflection reversal device {this aims the liquid where it needs to go, regardless of lateral velosity or lunar phase, assuming your car is on at least 5 wheels; part #JENY-867-5309, NLA}) BOOGIEMAN-welcome to the forum, I've got a '79 ZX as well. Regarding the fluids listed, most of them are special order-the link to Kale automotive usually has some around back. Almost forgot two others: Anti freeze is for summer, since stuff doesn't freeze, so for the winter months, you'll need freeze fluid (for the freeze plugs) you'll also need to hunt down some radiator washing fluid.

Cool site, found two in one shot- converted 240 in the foreground, and I'm pretty sure that's a 280 zx in the upper left corner (look at the front bumper and the 3/4) http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_45803-Datsun-240Z-Convertible.html

I don't know if this will help, but... I recall years ago my dad was restoring an MG (TD, I think-he had several). Rather than spend an incredible amount on a replacement bumper from Abingdon, he went to the local Community College, spoke with the Auto Shop director and had the bumper refurbish/rechroming done by students on campus for a very reasonable rate (free or cheap). He also had the block dipped by them and several things machined. Just a suggestion, might be worth checking out.

That's a great find, and I agree with you about the wire wheels. I do actually like wire wheels, just not on the Z. Find someone with a nice British roadster and sell or donate to them-those are the only cars that look really good with wire, IMO. As Marty already stated, cannablize the parts car for the roof, and when the time comes, use it. Congratulations overall, enjoy yourself!

Just rented Fast and the Furious 3, Tokyo Drift-no Z's were damaged in the making of that film, nor were any present. There were a couple of very nice Skylines (both old and new!) so that's ok. The rest of the movie wasn't, IMO.

Interesting, I would have figured the hole to be cut right down the center, not off to one side. Having it on the side makes sense, since that is where the carbs and fuel lines are, but I still think it odd. Something new every day.

What does your hood look like without the cap? Did Nissan develop a different one with different underside reinforcements? I know this was a dealer optioned "fix," but I can't imagine chopping a hole in the hood, though that may be just what they did. Just curious.

What have you checked so far? Do all corners light up with the hazards? Do any lights come on with the turn signals (regardless of flashing), have you checked the fuses? Before anyone will chime in with possible solutions, it would be useful for everyone to know what you have already tried, that way we don't waste your time (or ours) suggesting things that you have already checked. Have you got a Factory Service Manual (often reffered to as the FSM) or rebuilding guidbook (like haynes or chilton-useful, but far from complete are these)? And lastly, is this problem with the signals new, or has it been happening for some time?

Sounds to me like a bad connection(s). I would start by checking your fuses/relays. If they are all good, check the actual wiring to your switches-maybe the PO messed something up.
  14. Yeah, that would be the nu-skool "chop top" :stupid:

I think age is causing this- my '79 does the same thing in third gear only. I'm just guessing here, but I would imagine there to be some sort of interior rubber boot or gasket in the shifter mechanism-pull off your center console and peek in there. Since my rattle sound is only in 3rd, I haven't been irritated enough to bother checking, lazy as that sounds.

This may seem like a stupid answer, but I think it will work. The PO of my car repainted (MAACO's finest overspray, runs and all!) everything except the 1. inside of the hood 2. engine bay 3. hatch area underneath the pad 4. spare tire well 5. the channels where the water runs when the hatch is closed (whatever that is called) 6. under the plastic sill runner (the plastic peice that has the hatch opener attatched to it on the driver side) Those photos I posted in #16 are from my car, the PO went from Root Beer Brown to Generic Red. If your PO (previous owner) repainted on the cheap, I doubt these areas would have been sprayed. I would check there to see what the original color is, if this is not enough, I might try calling your local Nissan dealer armed with your VIN, production date, and paint ID number, or a custom paint shop-you never know what resources they have.
  18. When I first saw the heading for this thread, I envisioned a ceiling fan in a Z. I was thinking "how would that work?" Are you certain that the wiring is in the attic? Some electricians send all the wiring through the crawlspace or basement, perhaps that is where your junction box is. If not, it's probably stuck somewhere in your insulation. You could also try dropping the fan wires down from the attic to the wall switch, and do the wire splicing at the switch. Many homes have some slack wire there, though not all do, and you can work with that slack. All you would need to do is figure out which wires are bringing wire into the switch, but the switch itself should be marked with that info. BEFORE YOU DO ANY CUTTING OR MESSING ABOUT, TURN OF THE BREAKER FOR THE HOUSE!! (otherwise you'll be PirOstunned)
  19. Zach, You are right, VB is here in the states, However, BuDavid is in Bahrain, therefore shipping is a pain. BuDavid, I feel your pain (we all do, I imagine). Keep at it, your lady will love you all the more for it. Actually, BuDavid, where in Bahrain are you?
  20. Once all that is done, she will love you forever-just watch it; you will be dating a model, and sometimes they throw temper tantrums...
  21. Now, I don't speak French, but this site has some great photos, not only of the 2000gt, but of various Toyota Prototypes (cool gallery), and some great shots of the 240Z. Nice, clean site, easy to figure out-enjoy http://www.2000gt.net/
  22. BuDavid, The ZX has no problem with the M, my baby knows who has my heart (and most of my wallet). The M may be a wealthy opponent, but wealth does not equate CLASS and PERSONALITY. Thinking about your ghost: Your lady doesn't seem to be haunted this time. I think she is just upset about being left alone for a month. She was thinking that you were having an affair, and she feels a little insecure. Anyway, great to hear from you-your boss is making you work too much!
  23. She was fine, shooken up, but unharmed, thankfully (that's her in the pink sweater). Insurance took care of the car (this happened a couple years ago), but it took over a month to get back. Since then, no problems. Maybe the Ghost of Bad Luck was exorcised from Frankie and took up residence in the Mitsu. Any issue I have with the ZX is age related or PO inspired, bit a newish vehicle has no excuse.
  24. I know all about BMW part replacement, unfortunately. Tell me your BMW price stories, I'll tell you mine, and you will cry. Just don't tell my wife that I posted this photo, she will kill me. My wife has only one car, Frankie (aptly named after the accident), and therefore doesn't have to deal with jealousy issues. The Datto has been very nice to me, once I got the new shocks and tires on, basic tune up, and the like. Now it's brake time, while the Mitsu thinks it's break time. They are both fighting for attention, it seems. I love them both, so I'll do my best by both, what else can you do? I think they have gotten wise to the wallet issue, now they read the bank statements in the time it takes to drive home from the Post Office. This photo should serve as warning to anyone who drives (at any speed) on narrow twisties. She encountered a pickup truck w/ boat trailer taking ALL the road. Defensive maneuver overcompensated on gravel patch, strait down 30 ft drop, into tree.
