Hello
before you ask, you will see a lot of references to POR. It is a rust converter/sealent that many here swear by. Just run a search on POR-15 to see what I mean and read some testimonials. Welcome to the forum, you found the right spot. david

The fuel pump is located in back, next to the gas tank, so that is not the clicking you hear. I've attached a photo out of my FSM, perhaps it will help with your problem. If you would like, I will email you all 56 pages from my manual, PM me if you want to take this option. Our cars are different years, some things WILL be different, but it may send you in the right direction. If you haven't yet, get yourself a factory service manual (FSM), it is much better than Haynes or Chilton, although those are good references to have as well.

Introduction and a plea for help
Andre, congratulations on the find and on your persistance. Don't apologize for the long post, providing more information rather than less helps those with more knowledge than I give you more helpful information by knowing what you have already tried or done. Regarding your mention of a similar post- The jist of that line ended up being a discussion of Vapor Lock or other problems as the cause of the problem. No consensus was reached. I wish I could be of more help on this, but I am still learning about these things myself. As a general suggestion, have you tried using the "search" feature on this website? I have found it to be quite useful, enlightening and entertaining. welcome to the forums, david

Talking Lady
Obviously, my FSM doesn't show that bit either, but I can only assume that the dash comes off first, the rest becomes apparent. Since you have the factory stereo, any modifications by the PO should be easy to spot, regarding the talking lady, anyway. Maybe the PO got tired of listening to her and snipped a wire. But, just in case her silence is naturally induced, do you have sound in all of your speakers, including the afformentioned front left? If so, it would stand to reason that the connection between the lady and the speaker is broken somewhere. I would start at the lady's voice box and move towards the speaker, looking for any breaks or problems in the line. Sounds like a simple process, therefore I doubt it will be. Good luck david

1980 280ZX wheel color on Silver 1977 280Z.. suggestions?
Dirt and brake dust are things you will have to worry about anyways, but yeah, they will make your rims darker :-) (but not in a good way).

Talking Lady
I don't know if youv'e got your own FSM, but here are some shots from mine. Of course, I've got a 79, therefore no talking lady, but here are the basics of pulling the dash, which is what you will have to do to get to those speakers, I think. Just a thought-perhaps you can splice the lady's wire into the left front speaker wire at the stereo. Do you have factory stereo or aftermarket? As to the second part of your question, I would think that any speaker would do, so long as it fits the port.

Starts and stalls makes me think of intermittant fuel supply. Are you sure that you are getting fuel to the injectors? NurseLaura and I have had similar issues with our ZX's and found success (limited in my case) after cleaning the fuel system, from tank to rail. How long was this car sitting around before you bought it? When was the last time the fuel filter was replaced? How much junk is sitting in your tank/lines?

tire size changes
sakijo's got it right-tirerack would be able to sort out all the issues with you, like usage, speed rating, tread type, etc. Why deal with an unknown ebay seller when you have a staff of professionals to call upon? $.02 david PS-I have Kelly Chargers on my ZX, but I have Continental (front) and Hankook (rear) on the Beamer. Search the threads for tires on this forum and see what others are running, if you want some really good suggestions for your model.

Warning! - WIAT can strike you
The diseases have infected all of us. I don't think the diseases are limited to Z owners, though. My father was infected by a particularly strong strand from MG ownership, just like others on this site. As far as I can tell, there seems to be some sort of mold (or a similar self replicating pathogen) in the driver seat that causes addiction. While there may be some in the passenger seat, it is of a lesser potency, explaining why spouses have a lower tolerance for spending (higher tolerance against infection/addiction) on Z restoration/maintainence items. This mold gets stronger with age, explaining why new car owners generally don't display the WIAI and IMAW symptoms. There are support groups for those affected, though. This site, and sites dedicated to other makes, should be considered therapy. Do not fret, you are not alone. Car shows, swap meets and boneyards attract the infected. I realise that there is no cure for this disease (addiction), I can live with that. Besides, there are worse things to be addicted to. david

1980 280ZX wheel color on Silver 1977 280Z.. suggestions?
Sure, or perhaps a little bit darker, but not much (just for contrast). I didn't think about the clear coat peeling off, but now that you mention it, I think that is a valid concern.

Speedo gears NEEDED
Personally, I don't think they will do an Overhaulin' show with a Z. First, how could Foose make such a perfect car look better? Second, they only seem to choose muscle cars. I saw one episode where they had a Civic, and everyone moaned about it (dam Japanese car sort of stuff, not so much anti ricer). About the Speedo issue (the real issue in this thread)-wouldn't your local Nissan shop have the correct diagnostic abilities/equipment to check your gauge/accuracy? I asked the local Sherriff to gun me after I got my ZX, just to check. He said no (for liability issues) but did suggest the Dealer, FWIW.

August 2006- Beaches Cruise-In at PIR
It's great to see such an active automotive community-having a gathering every week and seeing it grow continuously is a great asset for your region. I really like how no type of car is excluded, it's not jst a hot rod thing, nor only muscle cars, etc. Having an age requirement makes sense, though, otherwise there would be brand spanken new cars next to the classics, though I did see some newer models in there. Still, a very cool event.

Why didn't anyone want to park next to that Pacer? Maybe it's in a class all by itself. Looks like a great time was had by all, wish it was closer.

BuDavid, those rims polished are beautiful, even in photos. go for the clear coat, the natural grey innerds seem a nice match.

Starting Problem
Yes, I know from experience that vapor lock can happen while you are driving. Not safe, and Not fun. The pump will not be able to push the vaporized fuel backto the tank because the vapor compresses but does not condense. It also has the nasty habit of rising to the highest point available in your fuel system, and getting it to move down the line is just too much for the pump. Good luck. david

1983 280 zx stalling and bucking
You will have to find yourself a Factory Service Manual (FSM) for your car. I've got a '79 ZX so I can be some help to you, but there are differences between our cars. Check the classified section of the forums, I recall seeing a FSM for sale there. Before you start tearing apart various peices of your car, you should probably do a basic tune up (including new plugs and wires), check ALL the vacuum hoses & fuel lines and check the condition of your gas tank. The problem might be in there. Search the forums for additional info. Before you start fiddling about with your fuel lines, please remember to release the pressure from the system, you will thank yourself for doing so-the directions are in the last photo.

Who can guess what this is?
 I am neither a yuppie nor a lady around Chicago, yet I've got an M Roadster. Consider this-my ZX weighs in at 3,265 lbs. and puts out 132 hp.. The bmw weighs in at 3,635 lbs. and puts out 240 hp. While a 1.9l Z3 is a pointless contraption, let me assure you that a 3.2l M version is worth it, and if real drivers don't care for it, then I will happily be a "fake" driver. Now, if they had taken a Audi TT, I would agree with you wholeheartedly. david
