To Tint or not to tint...
I am torn between installing reasonable tint (for UV protection/heat reduction) or those nice black window louvers-perhaps both. After all, weren't the louvers stylish when our z's were new? Shortly after I moved to Santa Fe, NM, I saw a state trooper with limo tint on his cruiser ON EVERY WINDOW. I had just moved from CA, where you could only tint the rear windows, and those to only a medium tint. If you decide to tint to the max for your state FIMZ, you may make yourself an easy target for harrassment should you cross state lines, FWIW. I say be reasonable, the cost benefit from not having to replace all of your interior goodies makes it worth tinting the back, even if it will cause problems with the defroster when/if you decide to remove it. Tinting the front ones is just a bad idea, solely for the safety issues.

Is a tight dipstick that important?
The matter of differences in pressure w/wo dipstick would be the last of my worries with a loose fitting. I would be much more concerned about outside material (dirt/dust/road stuff & water) getting in. If that puppy isn't sealed, anything could get in there. Maybe not a lot, but over time... just a thought.

Fuel injector Prob. 77 280z
and came upon this thread. So far, a lot has been helpful, though I haven't had time to do any of it. I have a question about this quote though. What is wrong with the Bosch plugs? I've used them in other vehicles without issue and have them in my zx now. Are the others better for a z or are the Bosch plugs bad for the z?

Newbie
I've seen a neglected z around me, about an hour to the north, in Maggie Valley. I honestly don't know if it's a 240 or 260. I do know that the owner won't sell the car-I asked (it's parts for another), it may not even have the harness that you need. but please update your info- like Beandip said, there are quite a few of us in NC and upstate SC. welcome to the club (and the state)

Z newb here, but long time Nissan/Datsun Enthusiast
Personally, I think it's great. I was 7 when mine was built, and there is nothing like having a car with the character that comes with age. Welcome to the club and please post some pictures.

Low VIN # on eBay
The reason that so many early z's are green is simple. It is not that they were popular, it was all about Nissan in Japan. They had little faith in the z car in the US, and felt that other projects deserved factory resources. As such, the factory would paint large batches of VINs the same color, to save money. This caused much unhappiness at the dealerships here, imagine getting a shipment of the new model and they are all green, or all orange, or all blue, etc. It wasn't until the z started catching on (noticably) that Nissan started to support it properly. How do I know this? I saw a great documentary on History channel (available on History website, and mentioned elsewhere on this site) about the z cars, from the beginning to the second gen 300zx. PS-the car in the ad is in Graham, NC- I know there are some members near there- I, myself, am about 5 hours away (and can't afford another car) but one of us can save this one.

Speed Racer Movie
I didn't mean to hijack the post, again. Everyone, you know there is a section on this site for toys? I saw some nice Zs sitting atop a computer that should be shot and posted. Nice collections everyone.

Suspension question
If those are the ones that I've got, I'm happy with them. I do a lot of curvy driving and have yet to be disappointed. If you are going to upgrade, you sure should go ahead and get the whole kit, I didn't and now I'll have to pay to upgrade my springs.

Speed Racer Movie
The Mach 5 is the 25th anniversary edition from Ertl, I picked it up at wallyworld and the 240 was made by SunStar (I had never heard of them) and I got it at an outlet K B Toy store for like 5 bucks. As for the mirror, it only came with the passenger side external. interior has the central dash mirror. The trunk is mercilously small and both seats fold forward for no apparent reason. Check out the toy aisle, maybe you can find one, if I see one, I'll let you know and we can work something out (if you want one, that is) I think they also make racer x's car, but I've never seen it.

Speed Racer Movie
who would play what, I mean clearly Bubbles is the better actor here, didn't you see "the animal"? Here are some shots of my Mach 5 and a 240z for size comparison (and Avatars-help yourself) I'll post my choice of actors later.

Help Please
Is that the hood of an earlier model Corvette on the black z? I tell ya, that one looks like a conglomeration of 'vette, Datsun and Porsche. Not bad at all.

Buy Car Insurance Online-- A Few Tips To Get You Started
Yeah, I use Geico-but I called them to add my ZX, since I traded a car in on it. That CarFax thing is really irritating, though. It will only work for 1981 and newer cars. As to the detail included in the original message, it's reasonable. But surely, anyone with a rare car, z or not, will have it insured already, for cryin' out loud.

A choke on a FI engine?
Lovely. Thanks, Arne-will do in daylight This makes me wonder-if you are right Arne, and I think you are, then am I basically driving the only 7 cylinder z around? this might explain some of the poor gas mileage and the occassionally strong smell of gas-occassional because it's only noticable while going downhill (don't know why) I figured the fume smell was due to vacuum hoses, so I switched most all of them today. Slowly but surely this car will be done

A choke on a FI engine?
Ok, so I’ve got this nagging question I have a switch on the dash (check photos) that is nowhere in either the service manual or owners manual. What the switch does is act as a choke. When the switch is set to the dot, the car runs fine (if not a little rich), switch it over and the car fumbles and tries to die, even while driving. According to my Owners Manual, this switch SHOULD be a headlight washer switch; something I don’t have. If this is for the choke, which I believe it to be, how would I adjust it? I’ve fiddled with the Idle RPM, but the car will not idle high enough with the switch in the off position. Very odd. The item in question here is #9, located bottom left under steering wheel, on the column.

Buy Car Insurance Online-- A Few Tips To Get You Started
I thought that this person might work for an insurance company-check the user info-nothing there. If "allyssa" had a z(x), she would know that with more experienced cars like ours, getting insurance requires speaking with someone. If kaisser is a real owner, perhaps she will check this thread and respond (maybe post some photos?). Otherwise, maybe it can be deleted.
