I didn't realize you could pull the gauges out from the front.
  4. I'm not a 280Z owner, but it sounds to me like you have something installed in the car that is not stock. I know the car changed some, but a 240Z (71-73) has two compartments with metal lids and rotating latch mechanisms. The cover for the spare tire is a piece of pressboard that is velcroed (no hinges) down to the floor. The carpet sits directly over the entire deck and has slits sewn into it so you can lift the carpet to access the compartment lids. If you you have to remove all that to access the two compartments, sounds like something is wrong.

They expected the sheer acceleration of the Z to clear the water off theat ledge.

What's that rough residue along the forward edge in second photo?

See the dark finish along the edge? That's what I mean. Looks like it was painted. I'll probably reuse that built up part again instead of trying to fab it, because they appear to have tapered the rubber sections in the stack.

No, I have a 71 model, it's original. There was a black finish of some kind on that forward edge.

Make sure they're careful with the stainless trim about the glass seal, and tape it down to a large piece of cardboard when they remove it so it doesn't get bent up!

My car probably wouldn't make it into a strict stock class anyway. So who cares?

Thanks. Well I know there was something black on the entire surface, it was not bright stainless.

I'm refurbishing my quarter glass windows on both sides. I have the new seals and the urethane sealer that you put on the surfaces. I cleaned up the stainless frames very well. My question is, what is attached to the forward edges next to the door? There appears to be either or both a corner piece around the forward bottom corner or and piece that attaches along the entire forward edge. Either way something black either paint or a piece of rubber appears to have exist along this edge at one time. I have a set of 72 quarter glass as well, and there is some thick residue of some kind along those edges. It looks like old rubber. It doesn't seem logical that Nissan left this edge bare. My understanding is the the 280Z quarter windows had a rubber component riveted onto the forward edge. Black Dragon Automotive (bottom of page 13) shows a part #4 Seal-Front Quarter - LH & RH for 70-78 Z's. Anyone used this part? So I'm a bit confused as to what was actually there. I'd appreciate some help.

I got the extra tinting across the top on mine.
  16. Okay yeah, I'm familiar with Les' stuff it's always correct. Just wondered about that other guys panels. Anyway, I'm also wondering how many companies are making these cores. Thx.
  17. I'd like to know what everyone that has removed the original materials off the floor and deck areas are using. I'm aware of several products: Dynamat LizardSkin (spray on) SecondSkin Hushmat Ensolite BXT II RAAMmat Eastwood Thermo-coustic (poorly rated) Noxudol 3101 B-Quiet I'm sure there are many more. There are few things I'd like to know about your experience and knowledge of these products. Cost, performance, application issues, flammability are among the most important to me. Please slay me with your knowledge, recommendations and evaluations.
  18. Can't you use your old panel as a template?
  19. I noticed there is no chrome on these panels. Also I'm a bit confused, how many people are making these fiberglass replacement panels. I knew about Les' project a long time ago. Who else is doing this?

Admittedly the original style belts were kind of a cluster-**** because of the nutty regulations they had at the time. So every strap was actually adjustable (i.e., you have 3 adjustors on each side of the car. Technically you could adjust your belt so the buckle was in the middle of your abdomen, which is a dangerous location. In modern belts the male tab slides along the belt so that doesn't happen, and the female part doesn't adjust at all.

Will aluminum accept a clear powder coating?
  24. Bottomline, US 240Z's never came with a right-hand side mirror, because they were not required by NHTSA. Cars came with what was required, and nothing more. Just like all the exterior lights were added to meet the minimum safety requirements of the particular country.

I don't see much lumber support in those seats. Have you checked that out?
