  1. My apologies. I was not saying it directly to you, although it is written that way. I was commenting on something else. I hope you'll forgive me. :tapemouth I think we probably all understand the insurance options now and what Hagerty etal are about. If you have a car in collector condition that you want to drive sometimes for various reasons, then Hagerty is not for you. If you have a garaged show car that you use for car club activities, then it probably is.

  3. A car that isn't driven will develop problems. If you let a car sit for too long a period because you're scared that it may break a Hagerty rule....well it's not worth it to me. I have a stated value policy, it may cost as much as a late model, but I'm not tied in the same manner. And as far as taking extra care with this car, don't insinuate that those who don't use Hagerty etal might not do so. :eek:
  4. Generally speaking with Hagerty, your Z needs to be a trailer queen. It is for show cars, not for daily drivers, racers or shopping. That's my understanding about Hagerty.

  7. Well right now I'm doing the body (i.e., rust repair, body/paint work). I have $2500 in the rust repair alone, and the rust wasn't bad for a Z. Just switched in a '72 4-sp tranny and new clutch, $500+. The remaining bodywork still has and long ways to go and will be close to $5000 + new weather seals. Anyone have an opinion on whether keeping the original Nissan glass is worth it, or does replacing the windshield with non-Nissan part not make much difference? I'm wondering about the originality issue. Anyway, it sure doesn't take long to ring up the dollars, does it?

    Thanks for all the compliments, especially for the car. The car looks ugly now because I'm fixing all the rust and redoing the paint and bodywork. But hopefully soon it will be back better than ever.

  12. If you're going to change the name for all the Politically Correct types out there, then let's just dissolve the club althogether. The original purpose of this club was to give the 240 owners a place to discuss issues related to the 240Z, because the IZCC mailing list was getting over crowded. Let's not lose our roots in a misguided effort to please ALL. This club was never intended to please ALL, and should never be made to please ALL. Those who are not happy can certainly form their own club(s). It's a free Internet and that's the way it should remain. I am TOTALLY against any name change whatsoever. We need to cut off the parts of this club that have gone off on tangents to please other people in the Z world. That's the route that should be taken. We are a Datsun 240Z club, not a Nissan club or a general Z club or a ZX club or any other thing of the kind. I've been a member of the IZCC and this club for many years and have seen the evolution of things. Mike, don't let your emotions control the true mission of this club. Do whats right for the core members, the 240Z owners. And we're not a 350Z admiration club either, as attractive as it may be to get on THAT bandwagon. Don't do it!

  15. How old is that Fanatic board you have hanging from the ceiling? I have a Fanatic Ultra Cat from 1989. Nice car, is that original paint color?
  16. I have a 71 model (built 8/71, also 920 paint), and I'm pretty sure it has a metal tank. I've only dealt with the coupling between the hose from this tank and the main filler hose. The coupling was a nylon plastic which cracked in a spiral direction. It was replaced with copper pipe. Are you sure your 9/71 model is not really a 72 model? I thought August was the last month for 71.

  18. Anybody who tells you that it's unnecessary to replace 28+ year old bushings is imcompetent. Replace every bushing you can. I recommend stock bushings with exceptions in certain areas. You'll find many varying opinions on the use of urethane vs stock bushings.

  20. Some may think sales numbers will decide; although very important not a determining factor for a future classic. With much due respect to the later model ZX owners, if you haven't owned a Z then I would not expect you to know what I mean by soul. When Datsun->Nissan, an important thing changed. The important thing was management and respect for roots. Nissan management allowed themselves to be swayed from what Mr. K worked for and toward what the Neo-Nissanians (of another generation) wanted. Mercedes has more or less remained true to its motto, "Engineered like no other car in the world". Has Nissan done that? Not the way I see it. Instead of making history as Mr. K did, they became only a part of history. The ZXs are fine cars, generally evolved from the original design; but not I think, from the original intent (idea). I was 11 years old when I saw my first Z in a Datsun showroom. I never forgot about it, and thoroughly enjoyed my 71 510 because of its kinship to the Z. In 1992 my dream finally came true, to own a 71 240Z (oddly enough the same color as my 510). While many are in love with technology, I'm in love with an idea. The idea was promoted by a man I've never met, but many of you have had the honor. The idea formed the soul of what the Z is. When I sit my Z, I feel a close kinship to that past. Nissan had their chance to make history again, because this was the car and the time in history to. I'm sure it's a good car, but I don't sense the soul.
