You say you don't have a record of strut service, but it's unlikely that they've never been changed. Nevertheless, if you should have the rare luck of having factory struts, you will likely find someone restoring a stock car that would gladly purchase those originals from you.

My guess is that he could not get ahold of the car that he would want, like an original BRE or Bob Sharp race car; or some other collectible version.

I'm not a true purist, but I don't believe in making the body the only thing left that is Datsun or resembles a Z. If you're going to bastardize your car that much, please remove the badging.

Agreed, the only purpose of the fancy materials is durability (i.e., longer life). There is no performance difference.
