  1. I don't know what you are trying to do with your car, but I installed new OEM stock springs and KYB strut inserts and it's plenty firm to me. Some of my bushings are poly, but not all. I can push the front fender down at most an inch. I also installed Suspension Techniques anti-sway bars front and rear. I think this is the best combo for a road car.
  2. A zero offset is the factory standard.
  3. I need some help guys. We acquired a 79 Toyota Corona DLX the belonged to my wife's deceased grandmother. It is in very good condition with just 82K miles. I've been pouring some money in it regardless replacing wear parts like tires, shocks, brakes, exhaust.... Anyway it has an A40 3 spd auto tranny and a 20R engine. The throttle pressure cable that runs from the carb to the tranny got stuck, and basically took away any gas pedal travel. So my Z guy took the cable off and I'm driving it without this cable, which normally provides kickdown. I cannot find this cable anywhere, and am wondering if any of you with Japanese friends in Japan might have connections with some Toyota folks. The Corona was replaced by the Camry in 1983, so you can imagine the lack of certain Corona parts that exists in the US. I'd like to find someone who I can pose some other questions to such as will an A40D overdrive tranny fit where the A40 is without much trouble? Thanks in advance.
  4. Dang, how come I can't see the photos? All I see is red "x"'s.
  5. I'll bet you sent them your avatar pic too, right?
  6. What is world are you talking about? Go to new profile? I'm blind, I don't see it anywhere. :cross-eye
  7. Do not try to insure anything that will accumulate much mileage on it every year, because Haggerty will not insure it. Haggerty is for show cars, parade cars, and very occasional driving probably < 5000 miles/yr.
  8. I thought the benefit of a R200 was for setups with greatly increased torque. Otherwise why put a heavier diff in your car? You can change gear ratio in either, right?
  9. I believe it is a condensor for filter out RF noise to your radio. It's probably bad after all these years, and I think ignitions are radios are more able to block this interference. Regardless, that little thing won't affect how your car runs, because mine is gone.
  10. Hmmmm, I've always use premium because I thought it matched the octane rating of regular in 1971. I believe that changing timing and/or compression ratio will change your fuel needs.
  11. So what's the shop going to do about it?
  12. I'm not restoring my Z, but I am repairing it. I don't do it because I think I can make money, although fixing up a car that appreciates about 5%/year, is better than fixing up a car that depreciates about 10%/year. It's a classic and a dream I've had for many many years, and it has an awesome legacy. I'm trying to keep it stock to the most reasonable extent that I can afford with some minor improvements. I think people appreciate a classic car that is in good shape as a great hobby and a way to celebrate history.
  13. I had a Creepy Crawler set, the one you actually would put the molds on the heated stove top. They later came out with the safety model that had its own oven or something. Kids have gotten soft. I wonder who the punk was that put them in the gas tank. Anyway, go on.
  14. You will go to your grave regretting the day you sold it.
  15. Hmmm, I thought Les had the original diamond pattern stuff. Yes, the harness cover is apparently something that was original, but someone correct me if not. Someone around here is selling repros and I bought a set (shift boot, harness cover, brake handle cover). I have never actually seen the harness cover on any Z I have ever seen.
  16. I did not get the impression that he was attempting to sell a BRE race car, but a promotional car that for the consumer with all the BRE markings, and apparently the concept was to allow the consumer to mod the car with BRE parts, etc... His claim that it was built by BRE seems odd, why would BRE have time to build what could be done by any mod shop with the correct parts and plaques? Wouldn't that make it a rather expensive special edition? Maybe I'm just not reading this stuff correctly. Hope to see yall at the Z Convention at Daytona. Yes if all goes at planned I will finally attend my first convention. It goes to the paint shop within the next month or so, if I don't get tripped up somehow again. Cross your fingers and wish me well.
  17. What is that chrome loop on the rear of the left strut tower? Anyone notice the original shift boot and wire harness cover? Something doesn't look right about the blue vinyl on the trans tunnel, didn't they always have a diamond pattern? Does the interior look like it was dyed? That thing has major body problems!
  18. Nutty, I frankly would recommend a new set of tires before you do anything else.
  19. I've found that running without oil has lightened my car up a bit, and I can really feel the performance improvement. My engine is a lot cleaner too.
  20. I installed the new Parking Light harness, and it worked great. One thing though, the wire from power to relay might be bit long. I had to coil up the extra, but it's not a problem. Getting that wire through the grommet/boot was a b*tch. You have to go inside and move the harness a bit to the side once you get the wire started or it will never go through. Better too much than too little. Thanks Dave.
