Here are a couple of pics of the stock seats we are redoing. My future father in law (aka ZZ72) made this seat cover today. We are going to weld in some round bar support to go inside the foam on both sides to add support. We are also going to add more foam there and to the lower lumbar area so the seat will "hold" you in more. I think it came out great as he has never tried any type of vinyl sewing or car seat covers. Thought you all might want to check it out. Its a lotchaeper than aftermarket seats or stock recovers...plus we get to make the seats into the shape we want.

Boyblunda, Thanks for the write up. Some interesting points were brought up. It might be something a lot of people need to think about. During the tear down of the 240 we had several LARGE bolt snap with ease. If thick metal can wear down so much over the years... what about the fabric webbing that make up the seat belts? We pour tons of money into these cars and often overlook items such as seat belts. I was in the Army for 8 years and jumped out of planes and helicopters many... many times, also did some repelling. I sometimes wondered about the integrity of the gear and ropes we were using. A lot of the stuff was VERY old including the parachutes!:surprised The seat belts in these old cars may very well look and feel as if they have maintained their strength but in fact they have not. The problem is compounded further by the fact that we are relying on 30+ year old safety engineering. Thats 2 strikes... outdated safety and belts that have weakened over the years. The third strike and catylist to injury is the car accident itself.:dead: Wow, I haven't really thought about this. I guess what ever we do it will most likely be something newer! I guess I will have to research if the Scroth belts will work with the stock seats.

Thanks for the help guys. Yawl have some really sweet Z's! I just have to pick one of the options for the belts. I dont think the Scroth belts will work with the stock seats. Has anyone tried them?

Thankyou master. Thanks for the first link but I really didn't need the second one. I did a good deal of searching. I just didn't find what I was looking for... thats why I posted. Belive me, I have been using the search option on this site quite a bit and there is a ton of info to be found. Sometimes... you just have to post to find exactly what you want. I'm liking the modern motorsports coil over kit with the locking abilities. Thanks again for your help. Thomas

Need some info on seatbelt options. I did some searching but didn't find much. The car is a 1972, will be a daily driver, auto-cross, some track days. What are options for seat belts for this year car? We would want at least a shoulder strap. I also looked at the Scroth web site and liked their stuff. I have been a passenger in a cobra mustang that used them and they worked very well. The problem is the stock Z seats, they don't have openings or a headrest that the Scroth set use. We are rebiulding the stock seats and doing our own upolstering. I thought about fabbing some holes during the rebiuld. Any info would be a great help. Thank you, Thomas

I did some searching but could not find all the info I needed. 1. What type of coil over kits are you guys using? 2. Are you happy with the performance of said kits? 3. Where is the best place to purchase coil over kits? Thank you for your time and help. I have been on MANY car forums and this has got to be the best one so far! The amount of information that can be found here is priceless. The members aren't bad either! Thanks, Thomas

Thanks for all the help guys! We (ZZ72 and myself) will be tackling the first pan tomorrow. We messed around with the new plasma cutter yesterday and that was cool. We hope to get one floor at least roughed in tomorrow. Thanks again, wish us luck. Thomas

The pics you asked for are in my gallery. Still in the teardown phase. There are also pics of a 1998 Mustang Cobra DOHC (38K on the odometer) I bought from the guy we got the Z from. Low mileage engine... all wiring harnesses..pretty much everything under the hood...tranny... for $500! I dont know what I'm going to do with it but its goo piece of mind to have for my 97 Cobra that has over 125K on the odometer. Maybe I'll stick it in a early 50's Ford. I wish it was smaller...then I'd stick it in a Z.

Hey guys, We are looking into buying a coil over kit for a 72240.I've done some searching and research on the Tokiko HP SERIES SUSPENSION KIT found at this link. http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/performance/brand.php?makeid=19&modelid=198&year=1972&partid=283 The car will be driven a couple times a week in the summer... some autoX...and some track days. Is this a decent kit and is the price fair? I have a lot of friends that use Tokico on their Mustang Cobras and they are very happy with them. Any info would be a great help. Thomas

Hey guys, New to the board and Z's. My dad had a 75 280 when I was a kid and I've always lozed the lines on the car. My future father and law just purchased a 72 240 (after I talked him into it):cheeky: that needs a bit of work. I just finished up a quick scetch of a paint sceme we might use. I drew in an after market front end also. Let me know what you guys think. I will also attatch a drawing I did of a 1950 Ford if you want to check it out. Thomas

I guess this isn't really a sketch. Its a picture I got off the internet... cut the front end off and drew in an aftermarket front end. I will do a real drawing after we decide on a few more things like wheels etc. I will attatch the rough (really rough) sketch along with a couple of my real drawings for you all to check out. THomas I will put up pics of the 240 soon. Thanks again for the help.

Thanks guys, The search option slipped my mind. The last couple of forums I joined had a horrible search engine. Its great to know this one actualy works! I'll research the pans, thanks for the links. We spent the last couple of hours breaking bolts! We are going to order bushings and I need to research coil-overs. I would like to start from the ground and work my way up. I did a quick sketch of what the car will look like when its all said and done. I can post it if anyone wants to check it out/give feedback. Thanks again for the help. Thomas

Hey guys, New to the board and to Z cars. My future father in law and I just bought a 72 240Z to bring it back to life. Is there a good source for replacement floor pans or do you have to make them? Any information would be great. I must say that this looks like a nice message board with tons of info/data. Well, got to go start the tear down! Thomas
