Complete Restoration in Indy.... this is going to be a long one
Congratulations! Wow, good luck with everything. I'm stuck in the middle of my restoration with the car in limbo at the body shop. Are you planning to do the work yourself or do you have a source? I ended up taking mine to a place in Kentucky but its been there for almost a year. I am pretty good at disassembly but haven't had the chance to try and put things back together. Keep us up to date and maybe we can get a bunch together and help if you need it. carl

Rebuilding wiring harness
I am planning on trying to rebuild my wiring harness this fall and have some questions. My books are with the car at the body shop but what gauge of wire is used? If I end up upgrading the alternator and the headlights, should I use a heavier gauge or just a good quality wire that isn't 39 years old. Fortunately, I have 2 complete harnesses so if I screw one up I have another to fall back on. Thanks for any input. carl

Motorsports MSA Fiberglass bumper
I am sorry that I can't answer your question but I just wanted to tell you I recently purchased front and rear fiberglass MSA bumpers for my 240z and really like them. They are pretty lightweight and obviously don't offer any protection from any impacts but they seem to be a good quality. They do require a little prep work (sanding along the seams) but not much else. If they fit, I think you will like them. Good luck. carl

What were you guys doing up so late? Aren't there 1-900 numbers and Skinamax programs for people like you? Go to bed. carl

Finally ready for some paint!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh thats starting to look pretty sweet! I'm sorry to hear about the problems but at least you caught them early. It sure is better to deal with it now than have it all back together and wish things were different. Good luck with the final paint. carl

A truly heart wrenching story! Rest in peace brother!
I am so sorry to hear about your brother. I am sure you are going through a rough time right now. That is a very touching story and it would sure be a tribute to him to have the headlight be a part of the car. He will always be a part of your life and my prayers go out to you. Let us know how things go. carl

Hey there.
Its all about the pictures here! We must see them. Unfortunately, its all about the benjamins when it comes to working on them. This is a great source of help when you need it. Good luck. carl

Finally ready for some paint!!!!!!!!!!!
Biddljj, what color are you going with? It is amazing the varieties out there. I always read about people having their car in the body shops for 6 months and sometimes even a year. I thought this could never happen to me! Its been since last September! Hopefully it won't be too much longer. Good luck with yours. We must all post pictures. carl

Finally ready for some paint!!!!!!!!!!!
Steve, that looks so beautiful!! It is certainly going to be more noticeable when the paint is done vs. silver. I was hoping to get mine next week but this week I have trying to track down all the missing nuts and bolts the body shop guy needs. He has promised pictures to come but you know how that goes. We have to get together when the cars are home and ooh and aahhh!!! carl

Finally ready for some paint!!!!!!!!!!!
Have you figured out a paint color yet? Mine is getting close too. I can almost taste it. They have the suspension back on and hopefully will be painting it soon. I am going with a dark blue, that I think is a GM color. At least thats what the body shop tells me. Keep us up to date. carl

old brake lines
Richard, I do appreciate the input. That has been my issue all along. How much do you trust 30 year old tubing? How you do like the Classic tube kit. I have heard mixed responses but I don't feel like trying to make my own. Let me know when you are done! Thanks again. carl

Whats up everybody
Congratulations! Like BigOak said, you have to post pictures!!! Good or bad. Be sure to use this site to help fix the "few issues". Hopefully the few won't turn into many. There are always people willing to help out. carl

tow truck incident
My first thought that OUCH! Wow is the owner? Then I started to think about the car. Not only the rear end but the door that was open could have been damaged as well. Also, how is the garage? The car had to hit something to stop, the back wall, assorted junk lying around. I sure hope the guy is ok. The car can be fixed easier than he can. carl

What color wheels
I know what you are thinking about. There was a picture I saw some time ago of a blue 240z that had the gold wheels and the car was rally inspired. I thought a lot about doing a similar thing with my own car. The problem for me was even though it looks great on a Subaru WRX, on a 240z unless you change out the chrome/stainless bits, it is too much of a blend of colors. There's the silver paint, the chrome bumpers, the gold wheels, etc. It just seems too busy. I would still go with a dark color. BUT, its your car so do what you want. carl

What color wheels
I agree with Arne. I would go with the gunmetal or black color of wheel over the gold. I think the gold would look too "pimped out" - bling bling. You could also put in a shag interior and welded chain steering wheel. That would look bitchin'. carl

old brake lines
Hey everyone, I have a question. In the restoration of my 240z I have a quandry. I have the brake lines and fuel lines from the car and am not sure what to do with them. They seem to be in pretty good shape. Obviously most of the coating has worn away but they are not rusty and seem pretty solid. The question is.... do I have them replated and use them or do you replace them with either the stainless steel lines or make my own. I know part of the question comes down to authenticity of maintaining a stock 240z but my main concern is one of reliability. Have people out there found that after 30 some odd years, you are better off replacing them or if they are in good shape, reuse them and stay original? I also need to look into the cost of replating. I know the stainless lines are kind off expensive. Thanks again for everyones input. carl

My 72 - 240Z
Not that we had any doubt, but that is a really nice looking car. Its in great shape! I have a question. In the photo of the engine, there is a white, circular looking thing in the lower left hand corner. It would be up front on the drivers side. It looks like a reservoir of some kind? Anyway, post some more pictures of your other cars too! Good job. carl

Any members near Indianapolis Indiana ?
I'd be up for a meet! I live in Fishers which is the other side of Indy but could make the drive. It sounds like my car is close to the same stage as yours Madkaw. I hope to have mine back at the end of the month. Let me know when/where you want to get together. carl

2,800 Cubic Inches!
Errrr...... I'm not the brightest bulb on the tree but wouldn't a 2800ci engine be quite large? Maybe the entire block is hollow and the pistons really, really big! Its a nice looking car but not my cup of tea. Its too bits and pieces. Nothing really looks like it belongs together. I've got it. The hid the rest of the engine in the trunk! carl

Finally ready for some paint!!!!!!!!!!!
Good luck with the paint! I am hoping to have my car back from paint by the end of the month. carl
