Help with heater cable
Hi there, I am in the process of finally reassembling my car and am almost ready to put the heater controls etc. in before the dash and have run into a snag. On the left side of the heater box, where the cables attach, I am not sure how to run a cable. It controls the big flap in the center and I don't know if I am missing a part or what is going on. If I just hook up the cable, I can't get the arm to pivot and close/open the flap. I have enclosed a picture and if someone has a picture or advice that would be great. carl

where to start?
I agree with LeonV. I bought a rust bucket that has taken me almost 10 years to restore and only now am I getting close to finishing it. I would save up as much as you can and get something with good bones. Ideally get one that you can drive at least some times so you can enjoy it as you fix it up. Good luck. Carl

What year was the first for Green Ex and Brown In?
Hi Jeff, The first year was technically 1969. Some of the first cars produced had the green exterior and butterscotch interior. This color combo was also available for the other years the 240z was produced. You just need to look and you can find this combo. Good luck. carl

"Pimp" my calipers
I painted mine with the POR 15 brake caliper kit in a silver color. Like what was said before, it freshened up the caliper while remaining subtle. I put silver 16" Rota RBs on my car so they blend in. Good luck. carl

Its so pretty!!!!
Hi guys, I went with the coated Motorsport TBC 6 to 1 headers from MSA. They were only $319 which didn't seem like a lot. I also went with the premium exhaust kit as well. I am sticking with the original carbs that are being rebuilt as I cannot afford triple webers at this time. Madkaw, the work is being done as Hash Imports in Fishers off of 37. Mr. Hash, who started the practice usually spends his time doing these kind of projects instead of the routine daily work. It should set me back about 2 grand for the work. I don't know how much more it will be to have them put it in the car and get it road worthy. I have seen him working on an old Ferrari and as I said earlier, he has at least one more 240z waiting. Its so pretty!!!!
The headers are from MSA and the mechanic said he was pretty impressed with the build quality of them. He measured the length of each pipe and they were all equal which he said was impressive as he has seen many headers that aren't as tuned as nicely. The mechanic does great work but I do have a couple of small issues. I had put a fair amount of work into cleaning and painting the metal fan the original color and the guy painted the fan blue like the engine block. I had also purchased a water pump pulley that had been replated and looked really nice. He painted it black. Oh well. They are small things compared to having the engine in tip top shape. Carl

Wire ID
Its not the rheostat. It takes a red with blue wire and a green with white one. Hmmm. Carl

Its so pretty!!!!
Hmmmm. I'll have to think about it 5thhorsemann. What kind of beer? As I was talking with the guy doing the work we showed me another 240z waiting to be worked on. Suddenly he is flush with z cars! Carl

I swung by the shop that is rebuilding my engine and had to take a picture! I have been waiting for 10 years to get this car finished and it should be done within a few weeks! I am so excited. Carl

Wire ID
I am getting the final preparations to putting the dash back in my car and have found a set of wires I cannot identify. I have a color wiring diagram and I cannot find it among all the other wires? It appears to be a source of power but I am not sure for what. The wires are red with a blue stripe. Thanks! Carl

speaker location question
Thanks a lot for everyones replies. I think I will probably go for the box set up. Not sure whether to build my own or use the MSA speaker box. Rock on. Carl

speaker location question
I have a question about locating speakers in my 240z. Originally (obviously) they only had the one speaker in the drivers side rear. The new interior plastic panels have speaker holes on the opposite site for a second speaker. Classic datsun has custom mounts for a speaker on that side as well. My question is.... Do you have to worry about fuel fumes on that side with a speaker on that side? Not knowing anything about speakers and the electrical circuits, I worry about a spark or something causing a fire or worse an explosion. I appreciate everyones help and patience with some of my questions. Thanks. Carl

correct oil pan
Hi everyone, I need some help with determining the correct oil pan. I pulled the oil pan off the engine from my car which was built in 69. It has been repaired on some point so I thought I would pull the pan off my spare engine and use it instead. The engine is from a late 1970 car. After two hours of hoisting the engine and putting it on a stand, and removing the oil pan I discovered it was completely different. Did the early cars have different oil pans? Can I use the newer one? The picture of oil pans from Z Car Source look just like the one from the newer engine. Maybe it doesn't even matter. Thanks for your help. Carl

brake part
Hi guys, I have a quick question. I can't find the spacer that goes between the body wall and the brake bridge thing in the engine bay (the brake master cylinder hooks up to it). I need to find a replacement and need to know the rough size of it. Thanks. Carl

Parts cd help
Well, I have tried everything. I downloaded Netscape Navigator and followed the directions. I get to the start here screen and when I click on the button it gives me an error saying it can't find the file: /Volumes/ZCARCD/zcd/baseq3/pak/yoda/S30_1a.pdf?B1=Click+Here+to+Open+the+Microfiche. That is as far as it will let me go. Any more suggestions? I am getting frustrated with this cd. Carl

Help with part identification
Hi Everyone, I am finally reassembling my engine and have a question. I have 2 engines, the original one and one from the parts car. I have ended up with duplicate parts and do not know which is from the original engine. There are subtle differences that hopefully someone can help determine which is the older. One set was connected by a metal pipe and with the other set, they were connected by a hose. There are also differences in casting numbers. I am trying to use the older set that went with the older engine. Thanks! Carl

Looking for stock exhaust system
You might try Black Dragon. They have one that appears to be stock. You may also be able to get a local muffler shop custom make one for you. carl
