  1. The ipad doesn't have any usb ports. Thats is weak point that may be addressed in the newest model. I just had a Canon 10d (bought on ebay for 100 bucks) converted to infrared. They replace an internal glass slide with a filter that filters out all but the IR spectrum. I have just started using it and the pictures it produces are really cool. Haven't taken any of any cars but will post some when I do. carl

When I ordered some parts form him a year or so ago, it took a very long time to get. I tried contacting him multiple times with no success. Eventually, after I had given up, he finally responded saying he had been out of town. Good luck. carl

Cozye, I look forward to hearing what the final result is. I may end up using them after all. carl

This is the message I got:Good Morning The approximate cost to rechrome our bumpers would be: $250 - front $420 - three piece rear $40 - guards (each) The triple plate process will result in a pit-free, mirror finish and take about 4 weeks to complete. When you are ready to proceed please contact us so that we can schedule a no-cost UPS pick-up to get your parts to our shop. Don I don't think I even brought up the idea of filling in holes or straightening. I do like the idea of not having to pay for shipping but I will need to get a more accurate quote before I would use them. carl

Cozye, I just got my email quote from Nu-chrome and they said $250 for a front bumper, $420 for the rear and $40 each for the bumper guards! For that much money I would get the stainless steel ones. I will be looking into Denver Bumper further before I send them to Nu-chrome. I will add that they said this was triple chrome plating and would be perfect. carl
  6. Its what I did too and I really like the hose. Lightweight and relatively inexpensive. carl
  7. I just got my set in the mail and wanted to give Jim a big thumbs up. They are beautifully done. I couldn't be happier! Thanks again. carl
  8. Hang in there! The dash turned out really nice. There were a couple of small wrinkles on the center console along a tight inside curve but overall, I think you will be very pleased. They said mine took longer because they had to do extra work on it due to the condition? If you don't hear from them soon, call or email them to light a fire under them. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. carl
  9. KAL7467, Just email Jim. I just purchased a set from him the other day. He has other parts available so ask and he may deliver! carl

Mike, Thanks a lot! All I need to do now is figure out how to straighten it out. Its a little warped from age. carl

Hi there, I have been going through my boxes of parts in preparation for dash reassembly and have come across a couple of map light frames. I am referring to the black outer frame. One has a small lip across the top of the frame above the clear lens and the other one doesn't. Did the first years have plane frames? Thanks. Carl
  12. Hi Everyone! Happy New Year! I have a quick question. Does anyone know where I can find a diagram of the number and location of the brake/fuel line brackets? I have a pile of parts and am not sure where they go and what I still need. Thanks. carl budelsky

When I was starting to restore my car years ago, the body guy asked me, "Do you want A z car or THIS z car?" I will have spent more money on my car than it is worth but I wanted THIS z car. The only problem comes if and when people try to sell the car. It will be interesting to see how much it will go for. I agree with Jan, people will always spend more money than things are worth (me included ). carl

Its a nice looking car but too rich for my blood! Good luck to them. carl
  16. Hi guys, I just wanted to post my experiences with dashboard restoration. Overall, things were good. The bad: it took almost 7 months to get it back. I sent it in May but finally got it a few minutes ago. The good: I got both the dash and the center console done and am happy with the outcome. They are not perfect but considering what I sent them, they are a million times better. The glove box door doesn't fit great but it didn't before I sent it. The gauges were all in place and a baggy was attached with the hazard switch and glove box light switch. The nice thing about the time delay is that I totally forgot how much I paid for the process! I haven't checked the fitment of the valence between the dash and the windshield but am happy with the outcome. carl

It wasn't too bad. Any idea who's 240z it was??? I wish it had more air time though. carl
  18. Motorsport auto has a reproduction decal set. carl
  19. Hey Polecat, I just checked Motorsport Auto and they have white vinyl listed on their website. You might also check out Too Intense Restoration. I got my butterscotch interior from them. Good luck. carl
  20. I wonder if we could get a group buy for a set that would fit the 240z? I agree with JimmyZ, the defroster wires have never been intact since I have had the car. If there was enough interest, maybe the engineers would work a little faster? carl
  21. Have you checked Motorsports auto? I know they sell brackets that are reproductions. The cost may be high. Ebay usually has some. Good luck. Carl

It sounds like someone has moved the badges. It should have the vents (it does) and it should have the Datsun and the 240z on the lower right corner (it doesn't). As far as I know, there was never a badge placed in the lower left corner. Mine had the holes welded over at some point. You might be able to see where the original holes for the badges from the inside if the interior panel hasn't been installed yet. Good luck. carl
  23. I just got mine today!!!! They are perfect! I couldn't be happier. I love it when people come up with new parts. I would recommend these to anyone. Excellent quality. carl

So I'm surfing the bay looking for car parts when I find this auction.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-Datsun-240Z-Parts-Car-3490-/400135191707?pt=Salvage_Parts_Cars&hash=item5d29ea7c9b#ht_1735wt_736 Its a early model but looks to be in bad shape and they want $10,000 for it. Ok, so that doesn't bother me so much. Sure, I think they are totally over estimating the value for that car. Its not complete or 100% original but hey, why not. The weird thing is, when you follow the sellers link to other 240z parts, they have a bunch of the good parts for sale separately with buy it now prices. The pictures for the parts are of the car for sale. It looks like they are double dipping with this car. They have taken a bunch of parts off it to sell as well as selling the rest of the car. It gets so frustrating to see people be so greedy that they try to wring every last penny out of a car. Oh well. :disappoin carl
  25. I just ordered a set as well! Better get them before they are gone. Only a few left now. carl
