am i welcome here?
Of course you are welcome. Everyone here has a love of z cars. Some keep them all stock, some are slightly modified and others are more extreme. Its all about what you want the car to be. I agree Andrew that if you have a lot of questions about the engine, hybridz may help you more. Post pictures when you can! carl

240Z in movies
I tried searching but couldn't find the thread about seeing z cars in movies. I recently had the pleasure of watching the movie Black Dynamite. It is a spoof of the blaxploitation movies of the 70's and pretty funny. I highly recommend it. Anyway, there is a scene where the main character is talking with two young girls and they both say that their moms told them their dad is named Black Dynamite (funny). In the background, there is what looks like a brown 240z. carl

new here
If you don't have one already, take some time and search and read up on what to look for when shopping for a 240z. Rust is the big issue and a $500 car can add up to thousands more just to get it running. Good luck. If you are looking at any, post pictures. We'll help you find a good one. carl

New plastic panel fitment
I second and third everyones opinions. Those look amazing. You did an excellent job of putting those in. I will be in a similar position in the future. I have the replacement panels, all I need is the car back from the shop. I may need to contact you for advice. Good job! Absolutely beautiful. carl

Triumph TR6 question
I was only joking (slightly) about the Lucas wiring. I am sure they get a lot of grief that is undeserved. The one midget we had only had 3 out of 4 gears and the brakes only worked sometimes so its not all the wiring's fault. My brother is thinking about getting an MGB or C GT so it hasn't put us off them. There are some funny Top Gear episodes where they take some old british cars and put them through the paces with hilarious results. carl

Removing Headliner residue
I can tell you what not to do. I picked and pulled at the stuff and eventually gave up and when I had the car dipped to remove the paint, they sand blasted the stuff off. Unfortunately, the roof metal is thin and they really warped/distorted it. The body shop guy had a fit trying to flatten it out. I have used aircraft remover to take paint and a variety of things off. Its pretty harsh so you have to be careful not to let it drip on you. I tried the "automotive" Goo Gone and it didn't do much. Hopefully someone can give you a better suggestion. carl

Triumph TR6 question
My only experience with british cars has been with MGs and the electrical systems sucked! Lucas who designed the system must have hired a bunch of monkeys because the cars always had some kind of issue. Good luck. carl

MSA vs. BD carpets
I think that the loop carpet is more like original auto carpet and the cut pile is more like carpet inside your home. I am not sure how to answer the weight question. They are a good weight. Not flimsy or too lightweight. Not sure how much they weigh in terms of pounds or kilograms. carl

Steering wheel restoration
I do actually have a spare. I don't know if they restore the wood grain look or not. I tried once to work on it and have had to remove the paint and sand down some of the wheel. I have seen the threads about people doing their own but wasn't very confident of my abilities. I will probably give it another go and see how it goes before I shell out the big bucks. Thanks for your input. carl

My First Z Cira 1984
Wow, now thats a speaker box! Those are great pictures. Its to bad you don't still have the car but the one you've got looks pretty nice. The driving lights look pretty slick as well. carl

Steering wheel restoration
Has anyone used Too Intense Restoration to recondition their steering wheels? I just noticed they offer this service from $125 - $195 depending on the condition of the steering wheel. I am thinking about having this done. carl

a z story.
What a great story! Its always great to hear about the history of someones z and the stories and adventures involved. Sounds like most relationships, mostly good times with a few trials and tribulations. Keep us up to date with the work! carl

MSA vs. BD carpets
I just got a set of carpets for my 240z from MSA. I am very happy with them. They have a layer of padding attached to the underside and seem to be a good quality. The edges are bound and the carpet pile itself looks and feels good. I don't know what the ones from Black Dragon are like so I can't compare. carl

240z speed help!!! asap please!!
Z Tyler Z, Don't forget about the fake blower mounted on the hood. Those can really make a car fly! I wonder how fast terminal velocity is in MPH. If he drove the car off a high enough cliff he might reach some impressive speeds. carl

Door trim
Jim, Yes I meant the door opening. The weather strip kit I bought from MSA and I didn't look closely at. I just passed it on to the body shop guy. I do know that it did not have any metal parts to it. All the weatherstrip I got was just rubber. I saw the KIA thread but did not think enough to read it. I will have to go back and read it more closely. Thanks. carl

Door trim
I have a question about a piece of door trim that I may need but have never seen for sale. If I remember correctly, when I was preparing my car for the shop, there was a u channel trim that was metal coated in vinyl that went along the door at the top. It had a textured surface and was rusted out when I removed it. I have all the weatherstrips to replace. Is this a necessary piece? Do I have to try and find an old one in good shape? Thanks. carl

z marks the spot
Looks Great!!! Welcome to the site. This place is a treasure trove of information and don't worry about being a pest. We love helping fellow z owners. Just don't ask about racing it down the freeway.(see recent post) There are people here that know everything about these cars and can answer questions. It really doesn't look like its it bad shape considering. Obviously the seats and engine have been worked on! Best of luck and let us know how things go. carl

Looking for 240z. Does this sound right?
I have to agree with Jon. For 11,000 I think you can do better. It does look like its in good shape but I would want something more original for that money. Yes, he has swapped an engine from a 280z (2.8liters) for the original 240z engine (2.4liters). There is nothing special about the car. All of the modifications are ones that can be done and have been done to z cars. In some of the pictures, the drivers seat is a light color. I would assume it is a seat cover??? The only way I would believe it has only 76,000 miles on it would be if it is well documented. Otherwise, in a car with a different engine, built to be a daily driver or a track car, I would think 176,000 is more likely. These are just my opinions. If you have the money and you like the car as it is, then it seems like a good car. If you are thinking of something that will increase siginificantly in value, I don't think it is original enough. Good luck with your decision. Hopefully, some more people will chime in with different opinions. Let us know what happens. carl

Clean parts and remove rust and paint with no chemicals or metal damage
Thats is really cool. I imagine it makes sense to some people but its magic to me! I would be afraid of electrocuting myself. It would be perfect for those small hard to clean pieces as well. Good job. carl

Datsun 240Z Braided Heater hose set available
I guess I thought they were both supposed to be braided. One being the original, no longer available and the other the repro. The ones on the left have a faint braid look to them which is why I was confused. The braided ones on the right (I assume that these are the repros) look awesome. I may have to order me up a set! carl

240z Butterscotch Vinyl
I recently ordered a set from datsun spirit. Very happy with them. If you get the plastic panels, there are issues with the color so you will need to redye them. Good luck. carl
