Ron, I have a medical background (veterinary ophthalmology) and never had to take anything beyond the normal math classes so resistances and amps and all of that stuff is a foreign language to me. I had no idea that there was so much to wiring and electrical things. I assume its magic that lets my tv and toaster run. I really appreciate your help because that is what is going to keep me from half assing the job and burning up the car. Because I haven't found new wire with all of the original colors, I was going to make labels for each wire as to the original color to help keep track of them. Your suggestions make more sense and will let you know if I decide to tackle the job. Fortunately I have 2 wiring harnesses so if I mess one up I have a backup. I'll keep you posted! carl

I need to see how I can get them to fit on my car. They are a lot cheaper than some of the rims I have looked at. Wonder where I can get some tires too. carl

Wow! Just as I was getting bummed out! Thanks Dave! That is awsome. That will save me a lot of work. This may just work out afterall. Gee whiz Ron, you had me scared but Dave has done all the work! I do appreciate all the help. All joking aside, I guess I have realized its not as simple as I thought. Its a lot more than a bunch of wire and terminals. As always, everyone here has my utmost respect and gratitude for the previous and future help you provide. carl

Crap! I guess I thought it was only going to be a matter of grabbing some wire and soldering on some new connectors. I never thought it would be that complicated. Thanks Ron for your input. I may be checking back with you. I have a bunch of manuals that I need to get back from the body shop guy and will have a look. It may be more than I am up too! Thanks again. carl

I would like to work on rebuilding my wiring harness over the winter months as a good indoor project. The problem is, I don't know what size of wire to get? Does anyone know what gauge wire is used for the 240z? Also, any good places to order a spool of wire. Thanks aplenty. carl

Hey everyone, I was busy at work, surfing ebay as usual. as found this really neat slotted mag key chain. Its all aluminum and looks just like the real thing. I think its 10 bucks so its not cheap but thought it was pretty cool. I think the guy also makes them as refrigerator magnets. I don't have any connection with this person but wanted to show everyone. I may break down and get one. Have a great day people! carl

Wow, that looks really beautiful. Thats a really nice color too! I wish I had thought of the shaving the antenna. I probably will only put one on to fill the hole. I really like the idea of the retrosound unit. I echo your feelings on wanting to get it back and working. carl

Thanks everyone! When I get the car back I will put the butterscotch seats in place and see how I like it. I am thinking of the butterscotch because you don't see it around much. I will keep everyone up to date as soon as I get more pictures. I can hardly wait. carl

<sobbing quietly> Its got paint on it! I can't believe it. Its finally painted!!! I got the pictures today and I'm so happy. I almost burst into tears at work this morning when I opened the email. Its been a year and finally its almost done. I absolutely love the color. Its a GM blue. Some of the pictures look kind of purplish but that is just the lighting. I got nothing accomplished at work and spent the time looking at the pictures and crying happy tears all over the computer. I was planning on driving to Kentucky were the car is but we are supposed to get a bunch of snow so I will probably wait until another weekend. There is still more work to be done but its finally looking like a proper car and the end it so near. I am trying to decide on the interior color. The car originally had a butterscotch interior and I think that could look nice with the blue. What do you guys think? carl (I just can't believe its been painted <sob>

There is a place in the Chicago area suburbs called Ultimate Z (ultimatez.com) that does only z car work. They are kind of expensive but they would be someone to look into. I was going to have them do some work on my car years ago but moved. They are north of Naperville but I can't remember exactly where. Check out the web site and contact info. Good luck. carl

Here are some of the ones that I have used. Lets see, there is the Z barn, z car source, z car connection (for SS bolts), Banzai motorworks, Datsun Spirit, and Zedd Findings. Also, Courtesy Nissan (I haven't used yet but hear great things). I shop ebay quite a bit. RedDat has gotten a lot of bad press here for high prices but never used him. Be careful for shipping costs on ebay. A lot of people will make the profit on the shipping and it can add up. Good luck with the search. carl

Leonard, I just got my order from them yesterday. I had ordered a bunch of small parts for the hood and rear hatch (dovetails, screws, etc.) I found the people on the phone very courteous and helpful. The parts came fairly fast. There were actually some genuine Nissan parts! I was surprised to see these as most things from them are aftermarket parts. I agree with everything that Arne said. I think they are a good source for some parts, maybe not the best for others. Good luck with everything. carl
  13. Thanks Steve and Andrew, I appreciate the advice. If I'm going to all the trouble of rebuilding the car, I might as well put new lines on. I will keep the old lines so I know how to bend them. carl
  14. I need peoples opinions on something. I have the old hard lines from the brakes and fuel lines and they are in pretty good shape for their age. There is still some of the cadmium plating on them. The question is....do I have them replated and use them again or do I just replace them with newer stainless steel lines. I am not going for a concourse rebuild so its not like I need them to be original. Part of me would like to reuse them because of the good condition. Do the newer stainless steel lines get you anything? I know when the rubber lines are replaced with flexible stainless lines you get better response. Also, the cost to replate them may be a factor as well. Any input is always appreciated. carl
  15. Jeff, This thread is over a year old. Any recent pictures of the car? Everyone was impressed with the first pictures and we want to see more! carl

Hi there, Could somebody post a couple of pictures of the door latch mechanism? I am talking about a picture of the door showing the outer latch parts and a picture of the body where the door latches to. I need to get together some parts and don't have my manuals to consult. I think the body side has a C shaped latch thing and am not sure what the door side looks like. I appreciate all the help and advise. carl
  18. Wow, thats SUPER!!!! Its the mostest, amazingest, car in the world! I am not sure but I bet it can fly in space and drive underwater as well. You have to at least admire his enthusiasm if not his imagination. carl

Unfortunately I didn't get a written date. When I left the car with him September 2008, he said he wanted to try and get it done before the winter and out of the shop. Ha! He does good work but always has an excuse. I stopped believing him after the numerous times he promised to send pictures and promised to get things finished but never delivered. I am calling him again this week to see what (if anything) has been done. carl

Thanks for all the help on my last question. I forgot to ask this one as well. The body shop guy wants to paint the interior with a sound deadening material. Something to coat the interior of the doors and such to keep the rattles and noise down. What do you guys think? carl

Hey everyone, So the issues continue with my car and the body shop guy. So, his latest excuse as to why the car hasn't been painted in the last year is the fact that he hasnt had the headlights. He does make some sense in that with the headlights in place, he can then mount the headlight scoops and I wont have to take them off later to put the headlights in place. The problem is..... I dont have the screws to mount the headlight units in place. What type of scews hold them in place? Are they screws that screw into the body or are they just a screw and nut? Does that make sense? I find myself wanting to scream with the lack of progress and feeling like I have to spoon feed this guy. AAAHHHHGGGGG!!!!! carl

What did she make it out of? Leather or vinyl. Either way they look great. carl
  23. I think the wood trim on the dash was going too far. The new paint job looks good and the interior looks to be in good shape but you have to draw a line somewhere.
  24. Its interesting that this came up today. When I got home from work this evening there was a package on my doorstep. It contained the replacement ball joints and knuckle arms. I got mine from MSA. The ball joints are replacement but the knuckle arms are nissan parts. I have an early model 240z and these are the later ones but had ordered these 6 months ago. They were backordered. I wish I knew about the new place. Oh well. carl

Holy Crap!!! That is so cool. I have never heard of rfactor but it seems like a great program. Fanatec makes some really nice steering wheels, shifters and pedals. They are german and can get expensive. I was thinking of a similar thing for Forza2. Your rendering of the 240z is incredible. I wish I could help you with the figures but it is so out of my league. Best of luck and keep us up to date on your progress. carl
