People may be other opinions but unless it has a lot of holes in it, you probably aren't going to find one in much better condition. Keep in mind they are all 40 years old. I would get it cleaned out and POR 15 route. Mine had a lot of small holes in it so I had the tank treated and sealed. Good luck. carl

I agree with Jeff, Look for a car with good bones and no rust. The price of a plane ticket or the cost of having it shipped can make a difference in finding a good car that is worth the money. carl

There is no way I would pay 5 grand for a 73 with a non original motor. Especially if it has 300k miles. If you are really wanting an old 240z, you can find one for a lot less. It worries me that this guy has only had the car for a few months. What's the story with that? Is he trying to flip the car? The paint could be a major issue. Sure, not many 37 year old cars have original paint but there are a lot of cars out there that have been repainted cheaply to try and either increase the value or hide something. Check the classified ads here and local craiglist headings. Good luck. If you can get pictures and post them for us to look at too. carl

Mike, These are rough measurements. The hatch was 41.5 inches wide and 42 inches from the top to bottom. The glass was harder to measure because of the weather stripping and not knowing exact measurements but it is around 37.75 inches wide and 28.25 from top to bottom. Hope this helps. carl

Its a tough call. Another car trying to use the low vin number to increase its value. Like mentioned above, there are too many alterations to make it appealing to me. In my opinion, if you are going to play the low vin card, it better be original. Once you start altering the car, I don't think the vin number matters. The dash has a cap and is the wrong dash to boot. It has the cross indentation by the hazard switch which appears in later cars. There is an aftermarket switch above it. Not an original radio, missing knobs etc. Even though a 5 speed transmission might be better, obviously its not original. The exterior paint looks nice but the interior is only in ok condition. The seat belts are wrong as well. Anyway, I could go on and on. Its got too many issues to interest me. carl
  6. I was just thinking about this again. When it comes to the patches and emblems on the suit, one thought would be instead of reproducing a patch and then sewing it on a suit, there are sewing machines that you can embroider with. You can download the image onto the machine and it will do the rest. I have known some people that do this for dog shows and make custom shirts etc. for people. The one thing I don't know is what this would do to the fire rating ability of the suit. Because it is a sewing process and would compress the fabric, it might weaken it. Anywho, just some thoughts. carl
  7. Ace, Are you planning to make it from scratch or purchase an aftermarket "vintage" race suit and try to Datsun it up a bit. I have seen several different styles available that are nomex and meet all the requirements needed to race. Unfortunately they are not exact. Some of them have colored stripes and other patches already on them. I don't know how hard it would be to remove some of the patches etc. to start off with a more basic look. I have only limited experience with sewing in general (from 4-H as a kid) and it can be really difficult. Not having worked with other materials such as Nomex and other fire retardant materials I don't know how hard it is. Good luck. Let us know how it goes. carl
  8. Check on ebay. There are a few different patches for sale. I don't know how many are period correct but you should check them out. carl
  9. Its frustrating that here is a car that nobody would touch with a 10 foot pole and the owner thinks they can get a lot of money for it. For $1500 the car better be in better condition. You could always leave the offer of $500 and wait until he realizes he can't sell it for what he wants. Maybe time will be the deciding factor. As long as the car doesn't rust away before then. Good luck with your continued searches. carl

HI everyone, I searched and couldn't find an answer so I thought I bette ask. I should be getting my Rota RB's today and have a quick question. What kind of lug nuts do they use? I currently have slotted mags that take the lug nuts with the shank?. Do the Rota's take standard lug nuts that I see for sale on ebay or can get at the local pep boys? Thanks. carl
  12. Are you thinking of the town car because you can get a good deal on one? I would think they would be just as bad in snow but with more car to bounce off of things. I would think a front wheel drive car or 4 wheel drive vehicle would be better suited to that task. I agree with EScanlon, your biggest problem would be rust secondary to massive amounts of salt. carl

I am switching to 16" wheels. It gives them a sporty look without being too low profile. I ordered Rota RB 16x7 with a +4 offset. They are knockoffs of Panasports but half the price. The silver ones are tougher to find. I have had to wait a couple of months for the seller to get them in stock. I used 18racing.com. They called me to let me know about the wait and have been good to deal with. Everyone has their own opinions but look at the pictures in the garages section above to get some good ideas. Good luck. carl
  14. Hi Nate, I live in Fishers. Its a nice place and the prices are pretty reasonable. It is growing by leaps and bounds. Noblesville isn't bad either but is starting to get further away from things. I can recommend a realtor if you need one. I moved here 5 years ago and worked with a good one. There is a bunch to offer locally and Indianapolis isn't too bad either. I am a vet and work at a specialty hospital on the north side. I don't think we are hiring right now but there should be a fair number of jobs available. Feel free to drop me a line about any places she is looking at. I can give you the skinny. The z club is a pretty good one. I don't get to as many of the meetings and events as I would like but we have a good time. We meet once a month and after the meeting go out for food and beer. Its a good group of people. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help with the move, the house, etc. Good luck! Oh, we may not have mountains but we have plenty of corn and soybeans. Yessiree! There's nothing like getting up in the morning, having a big stretch, stepping out onto the porch and looking as miles and miles of beans. carl

Ah ha! Now I get it. I also have a 70 240z and have the original bumpers but they are rusty and bent. For the time being, (like Hogie suggested) I bought the fiberglass ones from MSA. They are fine for what I was looking for. You can get them in carbon fiber as well. There are usually some early bumpers for sale on ebay every so often. You might be able to find a some that are reasonable in price and have them rechromed. The other option that I might go for eventually is purchasing a set of stainless steel bumpers. These are going to run about $1000 or so depending on where you get them. There is a thread about them if you search for stainless steel bumpers. They are made in Vietnam and seem to be nice quality. Good luck. carl
  16. I ordered mine through MSA. I haven't received them yet so i don't know how good they are. carl
  17. I purchased some parts from him earlier this year. I have mixed feelings about it. It took several weeks to get the parts after getting an email that the parts were on their way. Then they turned out to be the wrong parts. I tried and tried to get in touch with him about the mistake but to no avail. Then one day after I had written him off he finally replied that he had been out of town and not seen my emails, voicemails, etc. He did ship me the correct parts (or at least most of them). There were some vinyl bits that I haven't been able to find and am not sure if they were never sent or I somehow lost them. Eventually I ordered the part from another vendor as I didn't feel like going through the hassle of trying to contact again. Overall I think he is a good guy at heart but lacks a lot with the business. Good luck. carl

This may be a more stupid question but why would you want to put 260z bumpers on your 240z? Usually it is the other way around. People try to get rid of the larger, uglier bumpers for the lighter weight, small ones. I guess it depends on the years in question. I think some of the really early 260z's had bumpers that would fit the later 240z's. I am sure someone has the answer. carl

So today I was working on my rear brakes. Everytime I tried to jack up the rear end, the wheels were still on the ground. It was only then that I noticed that there were no half shafts. Apparently, the body shop guy never put them back on. Obviously I haven't driven the car as it is still being rebuilt. Fortunately I still have a pair from another car. I would like to rebuild them before I put them on the car. This leads me to my question. How hard is it to replace the u joints? I know they can be replaced in the first year but have no experience doing so. Any suggestions? I may see if a mechanic friend will do it but thought I would ask first. carl
  21. Awesome thread! I never knew what exactly rolling a fender meant and certainly not how to do it. It seems a fairly straight forward procedure. Where do you get rolling tools? Can you rent them? Good job. carl

Bounce, Are you referring to calling Z Car Source? They have a large selection of parts that can be hard to find. They do charge a fair bit for the parts. Don't forget your local dealer or Courtesy Nissan. There are still a bunch of parts still available. Ebay can be a good place as well. Carl
  23. cbudvet replied to bounce's post in a topic in Help Me !!
Bounce, I had my car chemically dipped and it worked great. The body shop guy preferred it because there was no media from sandblasting hiding in every nook and cranny. I would consider using a paint instead of bare metal. Maybe something very chrome like??? There is now paint that is almost the same appearance of chrome. It would probably be hard to see because of all the reflections of the surroundings! carl

I found some pictures on my camera that I had taken of some kanji on the dash which is the usual place but also some on the frame for the small side windows. Thought I would add to the collection. carl
  25. What the hell? Do they think that watching those people dance is going to interest people? I wouldn't buy a Volt just because of those people. Ewwww. carl
