zzzap decals
I was hard at work and looking through the MSA website and saw that they now offer reproduction zzzap decals. I was never a big fan but for those that are, they can now have that look. carl

Under dash ac/heating ducts
You should also be able to get that from Z car source but you will be paying more. I agree with 260zcalicar, try the dealer. They are usually the best bet. carl

Please asses this rust damage for me
Ultimately, it is up to you. I started out cheap and have spent thousands on my car. If you have the money and aren't in a hurry, go for it. I would agree with you. I would get it dipped or soda blasted to truly assess what the condition of the car truly is. That way you don't fix one piece only to find out the next place is worse. It can also help you determine what parts you are going to need. My thoughts would be to replace the roof as a whole not try to patch it. Good luck with everything. carl

Door panels

Door panels
Well, tonight I started to work on replacing the vinyl door panels on my car. Things went ok. Unfortunately the skins I got don't have the correct texture on the center part of the door like the original ones. Originally I was sent the wrong color (black ones) and they were correct but I didn't want to deal with it anymore so I went with what I got. So the actually attachment of the vinyl went fine. For some reason the picture makes them look really wrinkly but they don't look that bad in person. One of the problems I had was finding a replacement door skin with the original chrome strip. One day I was in Pep Boys looking for stuff and stumbled upon this chrome strip product that is perfect. It comes in a coil and has an adhesive back. It also comes in different sizes. I went with the 1/4" size and it looks perfect. There was a stitched seam right where the original strip was so I used it as a guide. It went great. carl

inspection lid clips
That's really interesting. I have never seen anything like that. It would make sense if enough of the nylon ones were breaking. Cool piece of history. carl

Datsun/Z-car boneyards
Well, Z car source has a very bizarre web address. It doesn't make sense to me. It's ZCARSOURCE.COM I have ordered parts from them before (both new and used) and have been very pleased with the service. You won't get any parts for a quarter. They know what they have and charge accordingly. The nicest thing is that they have a lot of hard to find parts that aren't available anymore. carl

Datsun/Z-car boneyards
Z car source has a lot of used parts and even shells for sale as well. They tend to be a bit pricey but not too bad. carl

inspection lid clips
Thanks Carl, Thats a great idea. I never even thought about that. The guy in the model shop suggested the aluminum idea and made them for me on his own accord. I don't know flexible they would be either or would they bend open and not keep the lid clipped in place. carl

Under dash ac/heating ducts
Draztik280, Are you referring to the black, corrugated ducting material from the heater/ventilation system or some kind of tubing for an A/C system? I love Mcmastercarr. I plan on getting rubber to replace/remake the rubber insulation mounts for the brake/fuel lines. carl

inspection lid clips
Mikez73, These are for the 69-70 240z's where the clip holding the inspection lid was originally made from nylon. Due to these breaking, the lids were altered and a metal clip was used in later models. Since the clips are no longer made, I am trying to figure something out for my car and others. carl

inspection lid clips
Well my brother finally sent me a picture of the inspection lid clips he had made for me. The black ones are made from delrin (sp?) and the others are made from aluminum. They were waterjetted from solid material not injection molded. I have no idea if they will work or not until he actually sends them to me. Unfortunately, these are all he can have made for me as his work frowns upon this and he likes having a job. I will post more when I actually get them. carl

How early in 69 was yours built? Mine is 11/69. Originally green with butterscotch interior. Now its dark blue but keeping the butterscotch. You say its a stunner, will you have to do much work or will you be able to jump in and drive it away? carl

Front Kick Speaker Box/Spacer Build
Gary, Does the speaker interfere with foot placement on the dead pedal? I was just curious if you found your foot hitting or rubbing against the speaker grill. carl

Installing vinyl interior
It went well with the exception of the strut towers. There are some wrinkles that will have to stay. Overall I am pleased but obviously I'm keeping my day job. carl

Hello from Los Angeles
Welcome to the site! Great pictures. I would agree, the first picture looks great. The other pictures look... not as great It really looks to be in pretty decent shape. Good luck with the work. Now the fun begins. You can turn the car into whatever you want it to be. Does the car drive? The good thing is you can enjoy the car as you fix it up. This site is a great source of help and information. Don't forget the search function at the top of the page. Its amazing what you can find. Keep us posted with pictures as you make progress. carl

Installing vinyl interior
Thanks for the pictures. The rest is going must easier and I am going to take your advice and do a small piece at a time. The larger pieces are just to big and unwieldy to try and glue down all at once. carl

Turbo kit?
Sounds good! I have redone the suspension (bushings, springs, struts) and will put an exhaust header with better exhaust on my car. Be sure to post pictures! Also, use the garage function up top too! carl

Installing vinyl interior
Well I did the strut towers and the came out ok. I used the spray adhesive included with the vinyl and it was a major pain in the a$$! The vinyl back kept sticking to itself and I had to keep pulling it up to try and straighten out the wrinkles. The vinyl was not a great fit but it will do for now. I think the other places will be easier because there are not as many angles and surfaces to get to line up. What do you do about the joint where the wheel arch and strut towers meet? Do you use a razor and trim the joint edges smooth? I will have to post pictures sometime. carl

Turbo kit?
Not to sound like a wet blanket but listen to what yetterben has to say. We get quite a few young people posting about getting a z and then want to have a million horsepower so they can street race and go faster than everyone around. We all have stories of people we knew who are now dead because of stupid decisions while driving. Not only that but innocent people getting killed in the process. Its hard not to want to drive them fast, they are great cars. Is sounds like you are a good person and we all want you to stick around! Start out with small things and enjoy the car while you have it and then you will get a feel for what you like and don't like and then you can change them. There are tons of things you can do to modify your car to your liking. With the right amount of money, you can do anything! Good luck and keep us posted. Ask plenty of questions for good advice and use the search feature at the top to help further. carl
