What to do?
i cant decide what to do here. some input would be nice.( i have trouble making up my mind on anything) i have a 77 with a freshly rebuilt stock 2.8. it was rebuilt at a nissan dealer with only new nissan parts. everything in it is new.(cost was like 2800 in parts) then i have a 73 with f54 block, su's, header.(unknow miles) i want to make the 77 in to zg, so triple carbs are must(even though i prefer efi). so do i use the new motor, or just pull the 73 motor and use it. (i would put a stock 73 motor back in the 73 and sell it, its very clean). i would have to pull the head anyway to port the hell out of it and slap a cam in it. the f54 block already has the flattop pistons, mine doesnt. the one has header already, mine doesnt. how much more would a 2.8 in 73 bring compared to a stock( non #'s matching 73). to many options. regaurdless, i will have weber 60mm t/b for sale after its done. anyway, just looking for some outside z input. thanks tony

Bought another one today.
i finally got home in the day light to get some pics. http://img466.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p1010232ft4.jpg there are several on there. i have not had a chance to wash it, so its really dirty. i looked it over again and still havent found anything more than surface rust. i am hoping to get it on a lift to power wash the underside, then paint and undercoat it. i will probably keep it awhile so i can get it repainted then sell her to a worthy person. sorry kids, no z for you. tony

Bought another one today.
i bought a 76 280 today, so that makes, 8, no 9 z cars i now have. anyway the 76 is very clean, no frame rust anywhere. it only has minor surface rust on the body from where the orginal paint was peeling. the entire car is 100% stock, from cali(still has the cat on it) and everything works, except the clock. even the big arse bumpers are in great shape. it has 98000 original miles(not flipped). once i clean it up, and perhaps put on a fresh coat of orginal metallic green, you will see in the classifieds. but if our looking for a 76, let me know before i paint it, and i will sell it cheaper. tony

Stock- Which is the quickest?
i am not saying a stock set up. but i will say the 280 efi was very good for 75. if you understand how it works and how to diagnose whats wrong with it when it breaks, its way better than some 100 year old technology. basicaly a carb is nothing more than a gas can with ahole in it on top of a manifold. poke the right size hole in it and it will run. now dont get me wrong, i have had a very nice 45mm triple sk carb set up on a 280, and it was pimp. nothing sounds like that did.. but put some individual throttle bodies on the same motor with efi and you will make more power. look at the cars today. more power comes from a computer giving each cylinder exactly the right amount of fuel. no carb could do that(although gm and ford tried). most people just dont understand how efi works and why it needs so many parts to make it work. o and to answer the original question, both the 240 and 280 stock would be fairly close in a 1/4 mile race. most of mine were never stock or at least for very long. besides, stock sucks.

Stock- Which is the quickest?
i believe the 77 280 made 170bhp and 177 ft lbs. my self having had almost 100 z's of every year, love the 240 the best, only because it was the first and the smaller bumpers and cleaner taillamps. but i do like the 280 interior better. and fuel injection is far better than any carb setup. i may love the z32tt just as much as a 240 though. there just so much fun. tony

ok, i went through a few more boxes. i found another 72 center console in pretty good shape. has a small broken chip around one of the rear mounting screw holes but not broken anywhere eles. i have at least 2 72-73 center console fuse covers( the part with the def switch) in really good shape. 2 perfect fuse blocks with covers(72-73 i think) and 1 with a small chip on the cover(its not visible when on the fuse block) 1 perfect 70 fuel door with latch 1 perfect 71-78 fuel door. 1 complete heater control panel. no cracks, not broken. the chrome is faded and only has 1 small spot where its peeling(on the very bottom where i scraped on the shifter while taking it out, smacks self). very clean datsun 8 track player. has the screws and mounting bracket. the wires are still there but were cut some time ago. this mounts in the glove box and i have no way to test as i have never even seen an 8 track tape. i have a box full of 280 heater vent panels. from great to good shape. 3 e 12-80 distributors. they need cleaned up, but they should work just fine. 1 very nice set of early su's. 4 screw, no tabs. the entire manifold, balance tube, linkage and carbs are still assembled and fairly clean. i will shine these up as much i can.( i dont remember which manifold it is) a few nice ashtrays and covers. a nice orginal wood steering wheel. 1 nice black 1/4 glass trim panel. lots of interior tail lamp trim pieces. complete e88 head, externally oilled cam. 1 good pass door. only minor surface rust. lots of drive shafts. 1 fiberglass pass headlamp bucket(sugar scoop). has all 3 studs. have 1 more but its missing 1 stud. there will be more to come. as i get each piece cleaned up i will put them in the classified section. but if you see something you need, pm me and i will get you some pics. and i am always open to trade. even with all this stuff, i still need some things myself. thanks tony

i have been sorting parts when i can. i have a ton of crap. first the parts car is a early 73, with very early 4 screw su's( no tabs). i began pulling it apart last thursday.( i only get a few hours a week right now to do this. damn its cold here now) i have tons of distributors. every kind. every year i think. 15 5speed trans from all years.( i will get the exact model numbers soon) i have a box of fans. i dont know why. but i do. at least 15 280z ecu's. lots of marker lights. several center consoles in good to excellent shape. i have a set of 82 zx wheels. with center caps and lug nuts. nice shape. oh, i have a very cool jdm header. came off a 2.0 fairlady. dual outlet flange right off the header. it also has the mid pipe. 6 r200 diffs. 2 pair of zxt cv axles. lots of front and rear bumpers from 70-73. some in ok shape some in good shape. 5 or 6 sets of early su carbs. at least 5 or 6. a couple of su manifolds. i have both 33 and 46. 4 or 5 heads. 8 clocks. form various years. lots of gauges.(speedo, tach, amp/volt, fuel, oil, temp) 3 pair of 70-73 tail light trim panels. a couple of 280 tail lights. lots of starters. lots of alternators. about amillion wiper arms. 1 perfect 280zx pass fender and headlight bucket. lots of various interior trim pieces. 1 decent pair of red door panels.(faded, no holes, only very minor sun cracks around the lock pulls.) 1 very nice 70 fuel door with latch. lots of original hubcaps(no center emblems though) 2 pair of zx t-tops. and thats just what i can remember off of the top of my drunken head. i havent gone through most of it. and i have even started working a car yet. although i think the cars will go up for sale locally( i can get more money that way. but dont worry, no punk 16 yr old dumbass will get one) as i clean stuff up, i will post it here. or ebay. well, i need another beer. so, good night. tony

(some i just cant part with even though i have 2 or 3.) i dont recall ever seeing an actual 260z kit, but there are several 280z kits by tamiya, fujimi, amt, monogram and revell. just watch ebay everyday for new ones. i see ones on there all the time that i dont have. there are so many. and i never have enough money when i need it. tony

i love this. just bought all 7 and had them shipped up from KY. these were the ones on ebay a few weeks ago. 5 are in restorable shape(1 with perfect dash). 1 daily driver that is to rusty to restore but has life in it 1 parts car. and 2 6x12 trailers full of parts. lots of parts. i will go through everything as soon as i can, so dont ask for anything just yet. tony

List for santa..
those are both just plastic model kits. both are on ebay all the time. tamiya did make a 280zx r/c 1:10scale that is on ebay every now and then. its easier to buy a 1:10 scale body and mount it on your own car. i have a 240z and 240zg 1:10 body. got them both off ebay. but i dont have that 1/32 432r, yet.

What is wrong with the 350Z?
having owned 2 350's i must speak on there behalf. i love it. it looks good, handles great, its just quick enough and fast enough to get you into trouble. it was built to drift. now by no means is it a classic 70 240, but its by far the best n/a z nissan has made. i have owned every body style, every year to 87, and a 90 tt. and the 350 is by far the most fun a stock z has ever been. i only wish nissan would factory tubo it, because with 100 more hp, it would be stupid fast, and sideways all the time. the brakes(the brembos) are fabulous. the traction control has saved me more than once. my first was an 03 track. i would drift it around every turn i could. within 6 months, and 13k miles the tires were bald. now, in my 05 annivesary i am "older". at 5k i havent drifted or done a single burnout. but i still love it. but i also love my 83zxt and my 77zg. besides, the worst z ever was the 87-89.UGLY. only good for parts
