  3. This car was on Ebay a while ago. The oil on the sway-bar is the give away. I would not touch it. It seems that the seller is misrepresenting it somehow. IMHO.
  4. I have spent only 2k on my paint. It is close to a complete restore. My body guy, a friend, told me that he would work on it while slow. Mostly weekends and nights. It took over 1.5 years to complete, but she looks beautiful. She is in the shop currently getting the undercarriage sealed. Been waiting for about 1 month. I am not in any hurry, because the longer she is in the shop the longer I have to find storage for her. I will probably buy a house in September, but that is a different story. If you are not in a hurry, buddy up to a body expert, buy him beer on the weekends and evenings and see if he could do it a side project.
  5. I purchased the kyb-gr2 shocks and euro springs. The ride is right on. The height is too high. I have since switched the springs back w/ originals and made the height right on. The springs were not my problem, just the struts. Lesson...try replacing just the struts. The springs may not need replacement.

Thanks again E. I still have not pulled the trigger. My Z is finished except for installing an AC system. I am looking at a new project and I thought a roadster would be fun, but I also need to buy a house. The small project may have to wait a bit, 3-6 months. If any one knows of one that needs a good home and is not out of line price wise please forward the info to me. Chuck

Yeah, I initially like the first photo till I got up close
  10. Darbji, I agree with fun. I have a thing for women who can hold their own or even better me when it comes to cars especially Datsuns. With that said, if your ever down south I would be more than happy to let you drive my baby around...Good story though.

I bought one and I love it. I incorporated the purchase with new struts, springs, bushings and rack...Wow I love the way the car handles. A bit too tall...looks like a 280z, but fun.

Wow, Thanks for all the response. This is the one that I am bidding on. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-Datsun-1600-No-Reserve_W0QQitemZ320141844886QQihZ011QQcategoryZ6188QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Tell me what you think.

Hey, I know this is a z site, but I am interested in purchasing a '69 1600 roadster. The question that I have for you Datsun enthusiasts is can a 6'5" person fit in the car like I can in a 240, 260, or 280z. I can not fit comfortably in the new 350z's. What should be a normal price for one that has no major rust issues except for some surface rust and needs complete restore on interior. Motor seems strong and has similar compression on all 4 cylindres. Chuck
  14. Welcome to the world of wiring POFU. I had to take 6 wiring harnesses and merge them into 3 while I was refreshing my '73. It was a nightmare. Seems the PO was real fond of speaker wire as a replacement for wires in the engine bay, dash and for of course the stereo. As for the running on 4 cylinders. Mine was doing the same thing and I thought it was a wiring problem as well...boy was I wrong. Seems that when the #3 cylinder was under compression it would leak into the #4 cylinder and vise versa. The timing was set way far advanced to make it run properly and to hide that it was not firing on #3 & 4. After messing with it for a while, I did a compression test on the cylinders and ended up doing a top end job on the head. Not fun. With all of the nightmares that I had on the refresh of this car...I took her out for a spin yesterday, and possibly today and I can not tell you how much fun I had. She ran like a top. Got about 25 mpg. Only coughed once upon acceleration, and I got a lot of good stares. A cop pulled me over to tell me that I had no inspection sticker and we ended up talking about z's for about 20 minutes. He is about my age and had one during his college years. Did not write me a ticket. I told him about the Z-club here in Houston, which I am not a member, but I am thinking about it. If the body is in as good as order as you say and all the numbers match. Buy it. I am going to buy a '76 next week for $800.00, just so I can have another project. I will eventually have a 240, 260, 280 and a roadster. Chuck

I am a bone head. You know the spacer between the master cylinder and the vacuum assist? Well I didn't. Apparently I turned it in with the core when I switched out the master cylinder. I was adjusting that pin so far in and it still did not work that I was thinking about removing the power assist and trying it again with an aftermarket power assist, then my friend that was visiting me asked why I removed the 1" spacer. Doh. I am such a bone head. Good thing another friend that Has several junk 240's allowed me to come by and pick one up for no charge.

Here is something some of you may not have thought of. My vacuum was perfect. The interior of my cab smelled like unburnt gas and driving it made tears come to my eyes. I finally checked the compression in my cylinders and I found out that I had great compression in 1, 2, 5,6 and no compression on 3, 4. It seems that when #3 got compressed the fuel mixture would leak into #4 and vise versa. I had to run the car well passed the normal advanced side to get it to fire on those cylinders. If I put in where the FSM states then it would run like crap and cough and sputter all the time. Moral...Check the condition of the plugs. They can tell alot. Run a compression test before spending any more money. If you have the same issue, then consider performing a valve job on the head. Worked on my '73 and she runs much better without the fumes.:knockedou Good luck

So did I. I am about to bring home a '75 to add to my '73 and I will put it on there as well.
  18. Im glad to hear that things were only minor. I would hate to see anyone learn such a lesson. BTW I took mine to a panel beater and everything worked out nicely. Took 1.5 yrs though.
  19. Im with you racer...Oops I lost my wife 6 months ago and still have a z...and just bought at '75. I guess I have my priorities set correctly. Nice looking Z, 240gl.

Looks nice. How are you going to secure them in the back so they don't slide around? Luggage straps?

I did a test after I drove her around for a while. I released the pressure on the master cyl and the brake fluid gushed out. I pulled the master cyl off the vacuum and looked at the plunger. It does not seem to be adjustable. It does however stick out from the vacuum a bit over an inch. If I seem to remember correctly (I traded in my old vacuum assist) the old one was shorter. I will take a pic if I get a chance today. Can I just replace the plunger? I do not have a small enough wrench to get around the plunger to adjust the length. Any suggestions?

My first ride in a 240 was in 1982. I was a sophomore in HS and my best friend had a '73 with triple micunis (sp). We were on our way to a party off a 2 lane blacktop when we passed it going about 90mph. Tim (the driver) pulled up the e-brake, turned the wheel and dropped it into 2nd and somehow we ended up going about 40 mph the opposite direction without sliding off the road. I purchased my 1st '72 about 2 months later. I owned it for about 5 yrs.:love::love:
  23. MikeW, That is a beautiful engine compartment!!!

Hey, I was hoping that you could help me here. About a month ago my power assist on my brakes went out. I switched it along with my master cylinder and everything seemed to work fine for a while. Now after about 30 minutes of riding around, the front breaks seem to lock up. I can still drive, but it takes alot more power to shift gears because the front breaks are engaging all the time. This only happens periodically and it only happens when the break pedal gets really stiff. After I park it for a bit, perhaps 20 minutes or so, the pedal relaxes and so do the front breaks. This is intermittent at best and only happens every few times that I take her out for a spin. Any suggestions. I was thinking that because the break lines should be replaced and the front calipers are the original ones that they should be replaced as well, but who ever heard of this happening intermittently? Help :ermm:
  25. I have already put enough miles on it for 1/4 of a tank. I will probably drive it around this week for the 4th of July and then put it in the garage again. Hopefully it will settle a bit, but I doubt it will settle more than 2". Thanks for the responce.
