I did it yesterday. No pics, sry guys. I used the Jcwhitney and it works beautifully. I took the channels out, because I had to remove a broke off bolt...doh. The whole process only took about 1.5 hours. I was really careful with my door panels. I really do not want to take them off again. Now, on the body, rubber and interior...the only thing that I have to do is to get rid of that DAMN exhaust smell.

Hey Arne, What springs are you going to use with the struts? Is this a good price for the set? http://www.jazzproparts.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=HPK251 I know that ebay has a set for cheaper. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=014&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=330117985621&rd=1,1

Does anyone know if these struts will work with the Ebich springs that motorsport sells? My spelling stinks. I am trying to purchase a set of spring and struts so I can install them on my car during the Memorial day weekend. I am thinking that I do not want to spend the money on the Tokiko adjustable struts and spring set, but they are a set and I have read that people on these forums like the set-up. Should I bite the bullet and buy the HPK251. I know they are not the adjustable set, but they nonetheless are still a set. Anything will be better than what is currently on her.
  4. Wow, I am sure glad that I replaced or repaired my entire wiring harnesses while she was completely pulled apart. Eventually I will be using zonthebrain's upgrades. After 35 years of life, I would recommend checking every connection and switch. If not taken care of properly, they have a tendency to go out, corrode, or get cut and or butchered by the PO. Do you have a Factory Service Manual. The one that I purchased, was a copy of a copy, but it has been invaluable in my restoration \ refresh. The Hayes and Chiltons repair manuals suck and lack sufficient detail to do any major type of repair. Good luck.

I am about to convert my '73 to an electric ignition. I like the points, because that is all that I have worked on, but after 30 + years, I am sure that there is better technology out there that would make life easier on our cars.

They Cost me $10.99 each plus shipping today. I will repost when I get them and install them. ")
  7. Those are great compared to the pans that had to be cut out on my '73

Hey Escalon, You would not happen to have an extra fuse puller? I am using my fingers.

Have you tried putting it into 2nd gear, then shifting into reverse? That is the only way I can put my car into reverse without that damn grinding noise.

There are 2 in-line fuses to the right of the stereo. One is for the heater\accessories and I am not sure about the other one. Sitting on the ground next to the passenger opened door look just behind and to the right of the steree. There should be a series of wires that connect from the fuse to the harness, in that series of wires, you will find the 2 fuses. White fuse holders. Both of mine were melted, but still slightly working.
  11. Look under the connector strap that goes through the buckle...you will find a small t looking opening. That is where it slides into. I dont believe that there are any fusable links in the engine bay.
  12. Yeah, My '73 is metal and much smaller. It does look odd.
  13. On '73's in the US, the dealer installed the electrical fuel pump to help with the original flat top carbs fuel starving. Normally it was powered through the connection from the engine bay harness and the voltage regulator. When everyone replaced the flat top carbs with the SU's then the electrical fuel pump became unnecessary. I am not sure why Datsun started going with the flat top carbs, but I guess that it had something to do with the emission crap that everyone also removed.
  14. The Red fasten seatbelt light. Yes that is the pic. Check to see if it is connected and see if the bulb needs to be replaced. If the light comes on the same time the buzzer does then put your seatbelt on. That cover sure looks better than mine. I am not sure about the switch. Chase the wires and see where they go???

When you say popping are you saying that it is backfiring through the carbs? do you have carbs? What year? On my '73, I had a backfiring through the carbs, and when I adjusted the timing on the dist, it went away. We need more info please. It could also be the vacuum being disconnected, but again not enough information.
  16. You can either test it or replace the bulb, or make sure there is current running there. The buzzer you are talking about is the seat belt alarm buzzer. There is also a light attached to it that is in the fuse box cover. When you look at the cover there is a switch for the rear defrost, a light for the choke and a seatbelt warning light. If I had a pic I would post it.
  17. If the wiring under your seat is connected to the body harness, and the buzzer is working, when you put it in gear, it buzzes. Check the seatbelt light in the fuse box cover, with a new bulb. I bet you it will light up while the buzzer is working. Same thing happened to my '73 build 10/72. To remedy this, disconnect the buzzer, behind the AC panel or plug in your seatbelt to the same wiring harness and put your seatbelt on.

I need a new one as well...figured that I would work on the rear end of my'73 first then tackle the front. This guy is selling one on Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=019&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=290106174526&rd=1,1
  19. Try putting your seat belt on. The PO may of switched the location of the bulbs. I too have a 73. If you do not have the switch under the console there is no way that you should be getting power to the light, unless the light is coming from another source.
  20. Was planning on packing them, if they are packable. Not sure about replacing them entirely, but I will check, when I have the rear end apart. They pretty much howl when going down the road.

I would have pulled the dash. I found rust in my firewall, coming from the drain line under the cowl...before and after pics. Good luck with the dash... I stink at editing my pics for size
  22. Wow, Great video. I normally cant sit through 7.5 minutes of video, but I could on this. Thanks. Made me want to finish my z and take her to the track.

You can also retard and enrichen the timing by turning the cap clockwise or counterclock wise. That is how I got mine ear timed till I could use my timing light. Why can't you time it?
  24. Thanks for the link to Suspension.com I was afraid that I was not going to have to piece the front end rebuild as well. I am not sure if I should go with the rebuild or purchase a new rack. I know they are not interchangeable, but the experience is worth every bit of money savings on rebuilding the rack myself. I knew there was a reason that I liked this site. Thanks again.
