Z car magazines
wow, been a couple days since I posted the magazine query (and subsequentially did find a copy of the classic motorsports with the z restoration article), and gotta say that things kinda switched gears in this thread...whereas I have to agree that the zx and beyond crowd is out of the spirit of the true z fans, gotta say that the 260/280's-pre-zx is in the same spirit of having the original bodystyle and essentially same engine and true spirit of the real Z

Z car magazines
will give it a shot, any others anyone knows of? About all i see on the stands around here is European car mags, older Japanese car mags seem to be way too far and few between

Z car magazines
Are there any good Z magazines or general sports car restoration publications anyone could suggest? I've been looking in bookstores lately and can't seem to find anything even close...would be nice to have some real car magazines to read once in a while

New clutch replacement problem
The fork lines up with the slave cylinder, the fork is on the ball inside the housing, but the ball is way back now, not up more forward like it looks like it needs to be in order to push the fork up to the slave cylinder

New clutch replacement problem
There has to be something wrong with the fork, it is all the way out rather than all the way forward like it should be, but the fork went back in locked into place and that's making it go all thw way back and have no clue why that is..the actuator line was bled and is bolted back on and there is about a 2 inch gap between it and the fork...

New clutch replacement problem
sure did, everything was kosher, just after getting it all back up and bolted tight that the fork now rests about 2" from the actuator, the angle is way off but is all snug in there and everything

New clutch replacement problem
I have a 77 280Z and through you guys' help got the new one in and everything back together and thought everything was goos to go but found one problem...after getting everything in and good to go, I found out that the clutch actuator (pretty sure that's what its called) once bolted back in, doesn't reach the fork when the pedal is depressed. The fork is too far back for the pin to hit when you press the clutch pedal and we were certain everything was in and perfect when it was all bolted back together...any suggestions? I really can't afford to take it to a shop to have it all done, basically wound up broke after ordering in a new clutch and driveshaft plus assorted neccessary seals, etc. Anything anybody knows about the fork would be a godsend right about now

Gasoline Fumes In The Car!?
I had the same problem with my 77 280z and turned out I had a crack on one of my fuel injector feed hoses causing a small drip but strong odor, not sure if you have a fuel injected or carborated engine, but one thing to think about

ignition stuck in 'lock' position 280z
have you tried cranking wheel to one side all the way and turning key? crank it and hold to the max and try the key, happened to me once

Clutch replacement problems help!
Have a 77 280Z and the clutch plate broke and am installing a new centerforce 1 clutch which works with all stock parts. Have unbolted everything and just need to get the driveshaft out to drop the tranny down to get at the clutch. The U-joint has locking snap rings that dont have holes for snap ring pliers, which I have never seen before, so no clue how to get the ujoint out to get the driveshaft out to drop the tranny and so on and so on....help please, this is my only means of transportation and can't afford to have it done professionally....please write back to me either on here or at slobound76@yahoo.com. Thanks

nasty misfires
i don't think it had to do with the decelleration, i think that something just happened to fail on the engine at the time...the ignition is good, failed spark wouldn't have oil up in and around the plug
-
nasty misfires
i checked all that first thing, the distributor's spotless, all cables were clean, and replaced all plugs, which made no difference
-
nasty misfires
to clarify, the braking was fairly hard, but stayed off the gas and didn't shift til the speed was below 50, rpms stayed under 3500, so no over reving
-
nasty misfires
went from 75 down to like 35, was slowing gradually, so was going about 60ish when i braked and downshifted when i got below 50, nothing out of the ordinary, revs never went above 3500 or so...will head to parts store to find a compression gauge, and yeah the battery securing is a top priority, tried a cpl quick fixes already but looks like i need a new tray i can bolt in (just purchased the car a few weeks ago, so getting to find lots of fun stuff)

nasty misfires
braked pretty hard, downshifted to 3rd, was 5th cylinder, don't have facilities/ equipment to do a compression test at home, replaced all plugs and no difference, and battery actually shifts every time i drive it, on my list of things to do (just bought the z as a project car)

nasty misfires
have a 77 280z and was cruising down the highway and had to get on the brakes pretty hard due to incredibly slow car on the offramp, she was purring like a kitten until the slowdown then started running horrible, would barely remain running. while running there was a real strong fuel odor and black smoke coming from the tail pipe. got her home and pulled the spark plugs and one was real black and there was oil in the plug hole. thinking blown piston rings maybe? anyone had this problem? thoughts, ideas?
