Nice job on the '77. It looks great! There is a guy in Arizona that might be interested in the 240. His user name is Flamenco and he posted earlier today with the title Newbie 240Z Wannabe.

I have a '73 and mine is just a bare chain. I know because I took the car to a gas station yesterday for the first time in 2 yrs. I was glad I had the chain because I put 1/2 gallon in from a gas can at my house then drove to the gas station and realized I didn't put the cap back on. The chain and rubber pad serves their purposes, No Scratches on the paint and I still have the cap!
  3. I think they can be interchangable, with minor differences and adaptations you may have to make. I just put SU carbs on my 73 and used a E46 intake and E46 (or maybe E88 balance tube I can't remember) balance tube. I had the N33's as well but the E46 was cleaner and easier to polish up. I would take a look at them and use the better of the 2 or the easier swap. Others may dissagree. I am new to this and just trying to make it work, and it did. She runs after 2 years of sitting and waiting for me to get to it.

I recently put SU carbs on my 73 and I have the same problem. From what I can tell on mine it is the throttle linkage. I can move the linkage so it idles normal (about 800 rpm) and it will stay there but when I rev it up it will only idle down to about 2300 rpm. I came apon this problem last night and I can't figure out how to make it go back to normal either. Is anybody familiar with this problem?

Thanks again for the information and suggestions. Last night I dug into the problem. Not having a torch or any other kind of high heat I decided to start grinding on the motor mount. With a Dremel, I took about 3/16" off of the top rear side of the motor mount. This gives me just under 1/4" between the motormount and header. They were just touching before, but I was worried that over time the mount would wear a hole in the header. I haven't put the carbs on yet to start it and test, but I assume that I will have enough room for any travel that may occur in that area.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will see what I can do this evening when I get off of work. Thanks again and I will post tomorrow to let you know how it went.

Denting the header makes some sence, but will that cause too much back-pressure in that cylinder?

I bought the headers off of ebay about 9 months ago. It is the 3 into 2 design. If i grind some clearance off of the engine mounting bracket, will that weaken that bracket?

Please help me! I am a relatively new member and I need to know how bad this is. I was fitting my headers to the head and when I got them into place I noticed that one of the exhaust flanges rubs the engine mount bracket. It looks like the headers go all the way on and are situated in the right place, but it touches that bracket. Is this going to cause a problem with vibrations while driving or hitting bumps?

Personally I didn't have anything but a dremel with the extention. To tell the truth I took all of the rough spots on my intake down and polished all the enterior walls of the intake with the dremel. It probably would have been less time comsuming if i had a die grinder, but I had to work with what was available to me at the time.

I recently joined the club as well, I am in Colorado Springs. I have found a ton of useful information here for my refresh of a '73 240z. Good luck.

I searched for exhaust systems and headers for about 6 months, before i got some off of ebay, and I never saw any like this. I would guess it is a custom job, but I'm not sure.

Welcome, I recently joined as well, but I have my Z. I looked for about 9 months before I found a decent '73 in my own backyard, Colorado Springs. Good luck on your search, and try everything these guys mentioned, I did even before I joined, but it works.
  14. Glad to hear you got what you wanted. I am taking my headers to a shop I was referred to today to see what they can do for a collector, while I am there I may see what they can do for the whole thing (headers back.) What is the best, 2.25" with a resonator or 2.5 w/o a resonator? Bear in mind, it is almost completely stock right now, but I have hopes for the future.
  15. I believe they call it a pre muffler in the middle of the exhaust. I have been doing a little bit of research on this same subject. I bought a 73 that I am putting SU carbs, a polished intake, headers, and performance exhaust. I have the stock exhaust off the car. It was rather easy when the intake and carbs are already off. I purchased 3 into 2 headers off of ebay, but I need a collector to go with a single exhaust. From what I have found a custom exhaust will cost about the same as a prefab but you have a local shop to take it to if you have any problems.
