new RB Zeds photo, but can't upload them, HELP!!!!
Hi all, thanks to Chris (26ounce), I have lots of new photos of my RB26DETT 240Z to show everyone but I can't upload them as they are all 320kb in size (limit of 250kb to upload!!!). The photos are of engine mounts used for the conversion, custom gearbox mount, modified suspension and Brembo brakes, surge tank and fuel system, WRX powersteering rack, Garrett turbo and manifold, 17 inch wheels and much more!!! Also photos of another 260Z with a RB30DET (3 litre, single cam + turbo) and another 260Z with RB25DET (2.5 litre, twin cam + turbo) and my '77 260Z. Mike, is there any chance of upping the limit size to around 350kb so that I can share these photos to all the keen zed owners in the club??? If you all wish to see them, maybe we can beg Mike to grant us an early Christmas wish!!!

High powered Zed
Hi Doco, that car is a great buy, if I'm not wrong the car belongs to a guy called Ben Ellis that writes for many car magazines here in Australia (Zoom, High Performance Imports, Fast Four and Rotaries etc.) The whole project is documented in Zoom magazine and would ad significant history to the car. Zoom featured all of the build: from the engine conversion and intercooler pipework, adapting the gearbox, brake upgrade, ecu install, engine dyno tuning and licensing the car. They mentioned that at one stage the diff was welded so that they would get drive down at the drags (this may be a different diff to the one in the car now), you may want to check up on that as a welded diffs are not very nice on the streets when going around corners (they skip like crazy). The car should be a great buy as the guy is a zed car nut himself, and also the work was done at reputable car shops. Take it now before its too late (trust me it takes way more than that to try and replicate a build like that, thats not considering your own time and frustration, plus the car is all police approved and ready to be enjoyed!!!) If you want I can dig up all of the issue numbers that the car was featured in Zoom.

Uni body rusted, saved my z from junkyard
I have to agree with all the guys, the car is not safe to drive on public roads!!! If you want to repair the frame rails properly there are suppliers that sell replacement metal parts that you can weld in, they aren't all that expensive (especially when its a critical safety related item). Here is a link that you can try to source the parts required: http://www.datsunzparts.com/emblem.html I know that you want to get the zed back on the road, but doing it is the WRONG way to go about it. Its like if I was in a mad rush to get my RB26DETT 240Z back on the road and skimp on upgrading the brakes and suspension, that is wrong!!!! Sorry for the ear bashing, but I dont have time or respect for bad repairs that can lead to fatal injuries to yourself or other parties. Anyway good luck and hope that your car doesn't sag or walk like a crab in the future

Whats under your hood?
Hi all, in my '73 240Z I have a RB26DETT Nissan Skyline GTR engine. I have changed the factory twin turbos with ceramic turbine wheels (known to fall of at high boost) to a single Garrett ball bearing turbo. This sits on a custom equal length runners exhaust manifold and has plumbed up to it a 45mm external waste gate. Spent gasses the pass out the back through a 3 inch full length stainless steel exhaust and muffler. The engine also has cam gears and an Autronic SM2 ecu which has rotational idle, antilag and traction control features (as well as ignition and fuel control). In my '77 260Z (2 seater of course!) I have the standard L26 with E88 head. I have just changed those awful flat top carbies to the dome top SUs from my '73 240Z. Plans for this car is a complete stroker engine from Japan with individual efi throttle bodies and programmable ecu. Well I guess thats "all" that I have for now, one turbo and one N/A, what should my next one be???? (I'm looknig for an early # 240Z to restore to full factory specs, anyone want to donate their cars for sale to a good home?) Take care all and happy zed motoring.

Yes, you are right, that car was purchased earlier on (few months back) for around $5000. The car used to be in Mandurah and its a early one (has E31 head). The guy that owns it >> buys and sells zed cars and parts (two brothers one called Martin (tune right mobile mechanic), the other Robin (matchless mobile mechanic), but I think that the car for sale was purchased by their father) It also has rear view mirrors on the fenders (but not factory fitted ones) and it had really bad rust at the bottom of the quarter panels were it meets the bottom sill panel.

Hi all, I'm from Perth as well; I must say that the probability to find a zed for sale is close to zero (2 seaters). Most change hands before they even reach the public market place!!! (I chased down the owner of my first 240Z [which is my current project car] to ask beg to sell it to me) I'm lucky enough to have owned two 240Zs and two 260Zs (proper good cars not just parts cars) as well as my current project a '73 240Z fitted with an RB26DETT Skyline GTR engine (Godzilla). Parts are hard to get and hard on the wallet too, but alot of people forget that the prices for new parts for modern cars aren't any cheaper (eg doors and bonnets etc.) Perth crew, drop me a PM if you ever need some parts or assistance, I may just know someone that has them! wheels
Hi all, I have 17s with 235 tires on my standard bodied '73 240Z and don't have any rubbing problems at all. The trick is to MAKE SURE that you get the correct offset wheels! I have adjustable platforms on my strut bodies which allow the car's height to be altered. When it is in its lowest position (wheel level with fender lip and tires tucked under the body) I don't have any rubbing problems at all. The wheels which I'm using are made in Australia (ROH ZS Style) I have also converted my car to 5 stud pattern to allow more choices of wheels in the future (used parts from a Ford XC Falcon) I will be getting custom Simmons magnesium wheels to fit semi slick for competition use in the near future (very costly exercise!) Choose your wheels carefully as a mistake will be a very costly one.

Stripping and repainting
Hi Ross, I have a '73 240Z which I have made a rotisserie to enable the car to be rotated 260 degrees whilst working on the body. This also helped greatly when it came to sandblasting, painting the underside and renewing the stone-chip material. I strongly advise you not to sandblast any of the large surface areas such as the bonnet or roof as the pressure and heat which the sandblasting process places on these panels will warp them! You are far better paint stripping these panels.

HELP >>> Rear axle flanges
Hi Rick, thanks for the generous offer, I have a set of flanges from a Datsun 1600 (p510) which fit my '73 240Z stub axles. The only difference is that the P510 ones don't have the metal circle which keeps the sand etc out. I'll try and modify these to suit first and see how I go, otherwise I'll get in touch and take you up on that offer!!! Thanks again, Cuong Nguyen.

Hi Ian, thanks for the link, the only thing is the price!!! If I was in the US it would be ok but the cost of the part is $34 + $25 (O/S shipping) = $59. By the time I conver to AUS it would be around $108 each, times both sides it would be $208, ouch!!! I'll try to souce something locally first and leave that as an option. Thanks again for your help. Anyone else with interchangibility info?
