I bought an ac housing from a 73 240z with the controls etc. I used a Sonden compressor where the smog pump went. It works but not very good since the system pushes the cold air through the heater box instead of pulling the cold air into the system. The good thing is that the unit looks stock from the interior of the car. Bob

I recommend the 240z, no question. I have one which sat for years and replaced the interior. Replacement parts are easy to get and fairly priced. The 72 is a sports car and looks/feels/drives like one. Bob M

Beautiful car, you are fortunate to have found it. Look for rust near the wheel wells since I see some rust on the bolts. It is fairly inexpensive to have the bolts, nuts and washers replated while you are freshing up the suspension. I used Eibach springs and energy suspensions parts on my 72z which worked out very well. Bob M

I also took my 72 240z to Rob to have the wiring figured out after painting the car and having the dash out. He also replaced the suspension bushings and set the ride height of the car to be a little lower than stock. I had the same experience with Rob and his crew as Don. They know Zs and enjoy working on them, it is a pleasure to work with this company Bob M.

Thanks EScanlon and AZ 240z, your replies answered my question. I have the flapper with the clamp and hose adapter so I just need to bolt it to the frame. I used AZ 240z photo to locate the hole through the firewall. Thanks Bob M

Thanks for the replies. EScalon gave me the information about the flapper placement I am looking for but I would like some clarification. The flapper is mounted under the battery tray on the box ??? Does it mount on the frame or firewall? The bottom of the flapper should probably extent below the body so the water does not drip on the body or frame but I am not clear on where it should attach Thanks again for your replies Bob M.

Mike I have a 6/72 car and went through chroming the strips a couple of years ago. I bought a spare set of tail lights and had the strips chromed. I believe the left and right chrome strips are different and not interchangeable. The shop had problems plating the old strips because the plastic was degrading and they came out looking like he chromed over a rusted piece. Apparently he tried several times to fill the voids before chroming but the problem does not show up until the process is finished. I would be interested in a set of chrome strips as well Bob M

I bought an aftermarket air conditioner from a 73 240z and put it into my 72z. The unit is the typical one seen in older Zs. My question is where does the drain hose mount? There is a flapper looking piece that goes on the end of the drain hose, does it bolt to the frame or on the firewall? Thanks Bob M

I had problems with slow wiper blades until they stopped working. A new motor worked for a while but when I restored the car I found that the bushings under the wiper arms were binding from dirt. I cleaned them and the wipers are perfect. Easy to check and fix. I replaced the rubber boots on the wipers to prevent this in the future Bob M

Fill the end of the crank with grease and insert your clutch alignment tool or similar size piece. Hammer it a couple of times and the grease will push the pilot bushing out. Bob M

I have a 72 240z, blue with white interior. I ordered the white upholstery and headliner from Too Intense Restorations. They are the bright white everyone mentioned and matched the original interior. However, the plastic interior parts of the car faded over the years and were off white so I had the paint store ( auto paint supplier ) match the white with fabric paint and I sprayed the interior parts to freshen them up as well. It all matches again. Bob M

I just had my weather striping installed and after fighting the rear window and ruining the rubber I had a professional install the front and rear windows. He installed the chrome strip first. He also removed the rear window and placed the chrome strip in it and them reinstalled it. He used some lubricant and a string and pounded on the glass to get it sealed, This was not his first 240z. I think he charged $ 150 or so for both. Bob M

You mentioned dents as well as scratches in your drip rail. Drip rails are on eBay and Craigs list all the time and might be easier to just replace yours. If not, I had a professional metal polishing shop take the dents out of mine and polish them. They look like new. Many polishing/chrome shops have a person who can straighten stainless steel parts.
