  1. Thanks for the tip...I guess you could call it a hoard...but I'm trying my best to thin it out. I collected a lot of Z parts over the years from guys who were sending their Z's to the scrapyard...no harm in having spares I figured...but after those parts just sat in boxes in my garage for decades I finally came to the realization that I would prolly never use them...so it's time to find new life for them...the sensors cleaned up nicely with a little wire wheel work!
  2. I'm thinking that sensor #2 performs the same function in the ZX that the "thermal vacuum valve" performs in my Z...it's mounted to a "heater housing" on top of the intake manifold.
  3. Yarb, Do you know why there are minor differences in the two vacuum port sensors? Different designs used in different year models? Do both appear to be OEM sensors?
  4. OK...let's try this again...sorry for the earlier problems uploading the photos. Thanks!
  5. Terrapin, I am the same poster as in those CL posts....However, the photos you posted here are not the same ones I have questions about. All the sensors in the photos you reposted above from CL are used in the 78Z, except for the two middle ones in the top photo. My research indicates those two are cylinder head temp sensors used in the ZX (but not in the Z). I'll try to repost my pics so that they don't display as files to be downloaded. And, yes, they were in fact photos taken with an iPhone.
  6. I've owned a 78Z for over 40 years... I'm not nearly as familiar with the ZX. I'm going through a box of Z/ZX engine sensors and ran across several that are not associated with my Z...I was hoping some of you from the collective ZX knowledge base could help me identify these parts..The three #5 sensors are similar, but each has subtle differences from the other two. Likewise, the two #2 sensors also have subtle differences from each other. I'd like to positively ID them so I can offer them for sale. Thanks! 7. I too collected many spare parts over the years...mostly from junkyards and part outs...not sure hoarding is the right word...but I would always buy good parts at a good price...especially parts that were rare/harder to get...even if I didn't need them at the moment... I kept them as spares...but my Z is mostly restored now and I've decided it's time to let go of these parts...hopefully to an owner who needs them to improve their own Z...I've mostly been listing them on craigslist and surprisingly I've had a lot of responses from Z owners who are not in my local area...so clearly many have figured out how to search for "non local" Z parts on craigslist...I do think that the overall exposure (ie, number of potential buyers) is greater on eBay, but to me Craigslist just seems so much easier to list items on....I may resort to listing parts on eBay eventually If they don't sell on CL. My parts are currently listed under Skagit, WA on CL if you'd like to take a look...I'm going through boxes and listing more stuff regularly.
  8. Haha..."misplaced"...if you can't find it, you can have the replacement one I posted in the photo...just send me your contact info
  9. Here ya go...found this in a box of old Z parts...they're kinda dirty, but I think you'll get the idea...
  10. I'd have to go out and check this with my car tomorrow...but I'm pretty sure that part seats inside the vacuum controlled solenoid valve attached to the B.C.D.D. (Boost Controlled Deceleration Device)...the solenoid valve I'm referring to screws into the side of the BCDD and has an electrical wire connected to it. I'll check this tomorrow, and if I'm wrong I'll update my post.
  11. Hi...I have a driver's side seat hinge cover as described in your WTB ad. Good used condition. no rips/tears. Message me if you're still interested...and I'll send you some pics of it. I'm thinking $20 plus actual shipping cost. Bob
  12. Very interesting...I just found this radio for sale on eBay. It's a NIB Hitachi KMS-2411Z. Note that the box is labeled "280Z Coupe" and the part number is one digit off from the part number listed on my box (99993-00137 vs 99993-00147)...so, here's what we have: KMS-2411Z......280Z Coupe....99993-00137....Original factory radio installed in the 78Z (and possibly/likely the 77Z) KMS-2511Z.....280ZX Coupe..99993-00147...Unknown application/year model Visually, the two radios appear to be identical...and we are not aware of any models of the ZX that utilized this style of radio.
  13. I think we're saying that it's possible (maybe even likely?) that the original Datsun box is labeled wrong. However, it still doesn't answer the question of what year model(s) Z/ZX's the Hitachi KMS-2511Z radio was installed in. I'm fairly certain that the KMS-2411Z radio was installed in the 77 and 78 year model Zs. And it seems likely that a radio model numbered 2511Z would be an update/followon to the 2411Z model number. I guess I was hoping that a forum member might have some first hand experience with the 2511Z model radio.
  14. Thanks siteunseen...i did see that post, but i think the original poster is incorrect in saying that the KMS-2511z is original equipment for the 73-76 Z cars. To my knowledge, none of those year models came with stereo radios from the factory. And I agree...it seems that the ZX radio set up did include cassette players. I'm sure you'd agree that it is curious that the box states "280ZX Coupe"
  15. Please see attached photos....Many years ago I purchased this NIB radio to eventually install in my 78Z. At the time I purchased it, I thought that it was the original factory radio for a 78Z. I came to this conclusion by simply observing that, visually, it was identical to the original radio that came with my 78Z. My original equipment radio works, sorta, but has "issues". However, recently, I noticed that box label on this replacement radio states "KMS-2511Z" and "280ZX Coupe". The original radio is labeled "KMS-2411Z". I found this curious mainly because my understanding was that the radios in the ZX models beginning in 79 had a completely different (new? updated?) radio system installed. In other words, I didn't think that this style of radio was installed in any of the ZX models. So my question is...what is the difference between this NIB radio (KMS-2511Z) and my original radio (KMS-2411Z)? Is there any reason to believe that this radio won't work perfectly in my 78Z? An internet search didn't come up with any useful information on the KMS-2511Z radio. Thanks!
  16. Thanks for that thread reference...I really enjoyed reading through it. I considered the possibility that my bracket, as shown in the photos above, was mounted backwards onto the antenna assembly. However, check the photo I've included here...there are 2 holes on the bottom of the bracket...one for a screw, and one for the drain tube. The hole for the drain tube includes 2 tabs that clamp the rubber hose into place. So I don't think there is another way that this bracket can be oriented and still have those 2 holes function as intended.
  17. Thanks for that information! I'll pass it along to my buyer. To me it's all about getting him an antenna that will work in his car.
  18. Thank you...that would be very helpful.
  19. I have a fully functional factory original antenna that I''m offering for sell to a fellow Z owner. His car is a 78Z. The problem/question I have is that I don't know what year model my antenna come out of. There are very few distinguishing markings on the exterior of the antenna...only a few numbers. We have concerns that different year model antennas mounted to the car body in different ways, using different brackets. I'll post 3 pictures...2 of my antenna, and one from my 78Z FSM. It definitely seems from these photos that my antenna is not a 78 model, based on the bracket design. I'm just looking for opinions on which year Z my antenna came from...and what it would take to mount it in a 78Z. Thanks!
  20. Ok..thanks for clarifying that. I do see what you mean. I just guess that interpreting wiring diagrams is not one of my strengths. Lots of good info you (and others) have posted in this thread.
  21. So White is right side speaker out and Black/Red is left side speaker out. Thats interesting. And it would make sense I guess that each speaker would need its own wire driving it for a stereo system. However, that setup doesn't match the FSM wiring diagram description. The 78 FSM wiring diagram shows both speakers being driven by the Black/Red bullet connector wire. In fact, it doesn't even show the White wire. I'm guessing this is another example of a diagram not being updated to reflect system upgrades from the original configuration.
  22. Thanks for that...I see your point....at least now, with the photos I posted in this thread, forum members can clearly see the wire scheme/colors on the two connectors on the radio-side of the sub harness (I've also heard it referred to as a radio pigtail harness). Too bad I still couldn't figure out what the function of each of these colored wires is...
  23. Thanks for the compliment...I also saw that same schematic in my FSM....but I was somewhat confused since the schematic didn't exactly match the actual configuration in my car...and I know my car hasn't been altered from original...so I thought it would just be more useful if I posted what was in the car. Specifically, notice how that schematic shows the connections at the radio as a 6 + 2 plugin vs. the 5 + 3 config. in my car. I'm not sure why the difference....maybe the clarion radio setup was different? Anyway, hope all this helps...good luck!!
  24. And just so there's no confusion over which radio connections we're discussing here....here's a pic of the front side of the radio...Hitachi KMS-2411Z
  25. And here's the car-side connections of the radio sub harness. According to my FSM the speakers are the wires that are Black & Black w/ Red stripe....although I haven't tried to confirm this in my car
