The 3.7 is still R200 correct? So it is going to weigh roughly the same as the 3.9 R200 and require the same modifications? Would the extra weight and money be worth it all, or would it just be a minor increase? Is the 3.7 hard to find? I have been looking for the 3.9 and I have only found a handful and I have been keeping my eye out for them for a while.

Wow, those are some nice numbers. When I stroke my L24, I hope to be making at least 200/200 at the wheels. In a 2300lb car, I think that those numbers will make me very happy and it will still be hell a fast. Though I think that you will be making more numbers then that at the wheels. You usually only loss some 30hp from crank in a rwd setup.

My 240z is going to be a weekend car, or special week day occasion car. I want it mostly strong in acceleration. I don't care too much about top end speed, as that is rarely going to be used anywhere. I like the windy roads, and rather have the acceleration to pull out of the turns hard. So, using my stock 4-speed and diff are about as good as I would get for acceleration compared to other diff and tranny combinations? I was planning on having a stage where I get a new tranny, and diff, and coat the entire bottom with protective paint, but if the current application is great for what I want to do, then that will save me quiet a bit of money. Plus keep the car lighter too.

With a 3.8L Supercharged? That thing had to be pushing some numbers. Stock they run 240/280 for the Series II which imo is the best out of the 3.

I have only seen 1000hp Vipers and GT's having a chance at a sports bike. Tons of power and well under 1000lbs. It is stupid for basically 95% of cars to race a sports bike. Its not an embarrassment at all, it is common since. If the guy on the bike wants to brag, he needs to race other bikes. Its like you racing a tank. You can tell people that you raced a tank, but would there be bragging rights? No. People would probably call you stupid for bragging.

I don't like the Altima because it looks like the 350z and the G35. It doesn't have a unique look of its own. Design team is really lacking in originality and imagination. The new Altima, 350z, G35/37 and the Skyline all look the same roughly, but with each their own styling ques, but with most of it looking the same. Then they all have the same motor, but with different numbers and drive systems. So what the Altima is FWD. It pushes 270hp, weighs 300lbs less then a 350z so it can very well turn out to be a touch faster then the 350z. Then if the FWD system is set up right and the suspension is good all around it can do very well on the track. Plus this too is quickly going to turn into a tuner/ricer mobile with all the ready mods that are out there. Its only $2k less then a 350z, and all that it really looks like is that the 350z offers RWD instead. Sure it has more power, but the weight is much lower of the Altima, and I would not be surprised at all if the Altima does better 0 to 60 and around a track then the Z. The Z should have gotten a nice upgrade a while ago all around, but the Z car has been neglected and seems to have been replaced by several other similar cars. If I wasn't such a Z fan, this would be my $25k sports car of choice in that price range, but #1 because it is FWD and #2 I am a Z fan and dislike how the Z seems to be copied and not even mildly redesigned. I don't like this car

Sweet, thanks very much Arne. Now, all I have left is roughly $100 to spend. Now, I am taking that this is totally going to be worth the some extra $100 for the whole thing right? Am I still going to need to buy a new coil?
  8. red_dog007 posted a post in a topic in Electrical
Could exact links to buying it be provided? When I go looking around for this stuff, I have no idea what I am looking for, and get confused on what to get. The ignition and the brake conversions are what I am having a heard time understanding on what all is needed as there are many different ways to do this that are easy and complicated. I am going to try to get to order this part tonight as I won't have time tomorrow. I get to work 14hrs straight from 9am. :dead: At least I should get a couple hours overtime. I just hope that this is with my new pay rate.
  9. red_dog007 posted a post in a topic in Electrical
I've got my trigger finger ready, and I am leaning towards the coil/ignitor. If anyone has any advice please let me hear it before I order. I just placed $150 worth of parts just now, (5 parts total) and next Friday I should be placing the order for my tires.
  10. If it was running, I would say $10k tops if you can find an idiot, or someone who REALLY wants a car that needs little to no work. The way it is now, I would have to say $3k to $7k depending on the type of people that you find and if you can at least get it to crank. It never really matters how nice a car is, if it doesn't run, it isn't worth much.

60,000 Volt Flamethrower Coil with a Ignitor II or something a long the lines of an XR700 electronic ignition system. Also, if I do get that, instead of the coil, is there anything else that I should get with it?

Sweet! That rocks. I am getting excited. Tomorrow, I am going to place a few orders for some low dollar items, and then next friday I am going to get some bike ticket items like tires, brake kit, and a dash cover. Getting the parts that I need to make my Z car safe on the road, and legal too. Those halo headlights are going to be a nice addition to my Z car. So I can also look for 80's RX7 headlights a long with Datsun Z car headlights as they are the same?
  13. red_dog007 posted a post in a topic in Open Discussions
I am not sure what exactly they are called, but I see them on new BMW's. I am sure that they are on other cars too. But what I am wondering if there are any angel headlights for a Z car? The light that is a halo and look really cool.
  14. Is your 240z motor mostly stock other then the webbers? How did performance change? I want to get a set of webbers on my 240z also, and sometime get it stroked. You wanna sell those!
  15. I love my 240z, would never trade it for anything but my Z car would have to be a Z31. I picked a 84-87 Z. I would LOVE to make on of these things look pretty and fast on a stock motor, Twin Turbo it, and own some newbs. In this car, I would feel more comfortable getting it a little dirty, and not having to check the car over after every night. Though I do have a fairly nice sized list of Z cars that I would love to have to fixed up the way I want it. 240z 2.7L stroker motor, 5-speed, r200 3.9 diff, dual calipers front, discs back, louvers, spoiler, air dams, sound system, ignition kit, ect. ect. which I hope to one day happen. 280zxt 2+2 T-Top with some nice wheels, intercooler, sound system and a boost controller. Get the motor pushing some decent numbers when I need it too. 84-87 300zxt with some nice wheels, intercooler, sound system, tweaked ecu, twin-turbo having two stock modified turbos, and a super nice exhaust system Maybe, just maybe a pretty much all stock 90-96 300zxtt with a tweaked ecu, rims and a killer sound system. I would love to my have garage consist of these 4 rides one day if I ever make the cash. I already got one, but just need to get it the way I want before I start looking for another one.
  16. They are just asking to get themselves in trouble. (the state, the county, the people enforcing it.) IMO it is stupid as hell. They have no right to do that. That is ones property, and doesn't the constitution protect that? If a transmission or something is found stolen, charge them for that stolen part, take it out and make them do time/community service. If I was one of those guys, I would push much much harder. I would get ALL of money back + damages, time, ect. Get those dudes in some kind of trouble. I doubt that they even had proof, other then clocking one at 100+ mph. They can claim that they are racers, but as long as you say no and they have no substantial evidence which I am sure they don't have, they can't do a thing. The cop has to physically see you. They probably chose these ricer 18 year olds because they know they aren't going to do sh/t to stop them. If they were Jags, BMW's, Corvettes, ect., this would have never happened and isn't fair at all. If these enforcers had any type of brains at all, they would stripe sell them instead, make an a$$ load of money and give it to charity. Just goes to show how stupid they are being about this. Community service/time/fee is going to BE much worse. That you know you never want to do again if this is the punishment, but if they had the money to do that, they are going to have the money to do it again. Plus this is when they are just going to get something else that is cheaper and easier to get even more power. You can buy a N/A supra for $2k, and then buy a 1JZ 300hp clip for $2.5k. For $6k after installation, you already have 300+ horsepower, all legal. Boost controller and after market parts can get you near 400hp, all for under $10k. You can get a Regal pushing 350hp for $4k, in a $4k car. They are going to be doing the same thing, but just getting different weapons.

V6 Nissan from a 300/350 = the sucks to install V8 from Chevy, = slides in fairly decent with just a few modifications LT, LS, Anything else V8 from Chevy really. I think that Nissans I6 (RB) and I4 (SR) are fairly easy to put in (though a little more work then the V8's), and can take a lot of power stock. Though I hear that the SR motors have poor handling because the motor stops right in front of the wheel wells, so there is no weight on the front wheels to help them grip in cornering.
  18. What I thought was this 240z = 151hp 260z = 165hp (weight increases from here on out) 280z = 149hp (emission regulations kicked in) 280zx = 135hp then upped back up to 145hp after a year or so And the 240z having nearly the same 0 to 60 and weight to hp ratio when up against the 280zx Turbo.

Umm, there are a few internal differences in some of them. The cylinders, cooling system, ect. Ummm.... The main reasons for different power numbers if the Carbs to the EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) period. Does your 280z still have carbs? I know that when the 280z first when EFI, there was a really bad power drop that was fixed over a small period of time. Some models only get some 135hp, but does work its way back to 149hp. Plus it got tighter pollution regulations to deal with. I am just not completely straight on specs for each year of the L28 motor. If your Z still has carbs, then the power rating is still about the same as the L24, maybe a little bit stronger. The 240z and 75 280z I think might be very similar, just that I do believe that the 280z is some 400lbs heavier. I should probably stop talking because I know stuff about the 280z, just that I don't have all the facts completely straight or complete. :stupid: All I know about is the 240z. I am going to let the more experienced people talk now. You will learn a lot about this car. I looked for 4 years before I found what I got. When I got it, I knew a little, but coming here and doing a lot of searches online, I have learned a LOT more then I thought one could learn about this car with how simple and straight forward they are.

Well, under 15mph or so, the wheel can be a bi/ch to turn, which could turn a lot of people off. She might not have liked having to throw some muscle into turning the wheel to say get in and out of parking spaces all the time. Though it is very responsive once you get up to speed! Plus it is just one less thing to worry about in your car with issues and maintenance. Its quiet a bit lighter, and it is also known to be the legendary car of the Z series, and the birth car of the Z car. Plus it seems to be the most desired car of them all. The L28's also had different power ratings throughout its life, and if I am not mistaken, the 76 280z motor has a little less power then the 240z motor.

Man, that is one sexy Z car that you go. How is the interior holding up? When I am finished with my Z car, I want the same color that you got, but maybe a little darker. Love the louvers and the sunroof. I wouldn't mind getting a sunroof in mine, but I am not sure if I want to harm my Z car in that way. At least you have an early 280. Closer to how the 240 is, but it would be all the better if that thing was a 240. :devious:

Thats awesome! I remember my first run in my Z car. Freaking amazing. A lot of torque down low which sure did surprise me. Did some heavy runs and in doing so found out the brakes weren't all that great with speed bumps coming up, then after that found out the suspension wasn't all that great either.
  23. Any mods on these cars pushing 8,000rpm? I thought that the power dropped off after 6,000rpm and getting even close to redline (7,000rpm) was pointless.
  24. red_dog007 posted a post in a topic in Open Chit Chat
Is that the 165hp one? Still has lots of torque though. With that motor, you could probably to a lot of tweaking to it to get it close to its original 300hp ratings, while keeping it all or mostly stock. I have seen some of those around here that make myself question if I would trade my Z car for that. I would drive it around a bit. See how you like it, then take a ride in your Z right afterwards. Also, check prices on repairs, performance parts, interior parts, insurance, availability of parts, ect, ect. I am sure that you can find all the goodies that you would ever need for this car, but I am sure that it would be at a much higher price. It seems like it is a 3400lbs car roughly, and the upper models got the shaft on HP, so the HP to lbs ratio is going to be much worse then the Z car. L28ET wouldn't be all that hard. It is a direct swap. I think, after it all, I would keep my Z car. If you want power, just go on ebay and get a LS1/2 with tranny for some $2k, and then spend another sum $1,000 on misc parts and labor costs for the swap. Higher power ratings the the C3 and some 1000lbs lighter.
  25. At least it wasn't a Datsun.
