DOHC L24? i love this z
Thats an inline-6 though in the video, and those corollas are inline-4s. It says SD on there, but the only SD engines from Nissan are diesel. Not sure what that thing is.

Nissan Skyline 370GT
http://www.motortrend.com/photo_gallery/112_0710_2008_nissan_skyline_370gt http://www.cyber-mag.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=5042&sid=7b7987481915d68575434569bf1914cf http://www.htlounge.net/articles/4241/1/Nissan-V36-Skyline-Different-Than-The-GT-R Is this making its way to the United States or is it going to stay in Japan? We already have the G37 so I am guessing not. The GTR looks wicked and I was just thinking that if the Skyline came to the United States I wouldn't know what to do as I would imagine the 350z would be stuck in a pickle. Is there any recent news on a new Z car yet? 370Z or 380Z? Turn that 4L into something? Also, I just spotted this that is quiet interesting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Conceptz.jpg Revise the looks a bit, slap in an Inline-6 and I think that it would be a decent ride.

280z turbo
4.8L = 293 cubic inches. 302's, 305's and 307's are a 5L motor. Google is your friend here If you want to know the cubic inches for a 4.8L, in Google just type "4.8L to cu in" or if you can do "305cu in to liters" and a answer will show up! Motors for so cheap = ebay. You can get motors and transmissions with everything as low as $1,000ish depending on what you want with mileage as low as 20,000 miles. There is a lot of cheapness on ebay that does not require a rebuild. If you end up wanting to go with a Japanese motor, there are sites online that will sell you clips and ship them straight from Japan. These things never have over 60,000 miles on them. $3,500 for a 305 I would say could be a little pricey unless it was rebuilt good or even has a few mods. Plus some people even buy something old and beatup, or wrecked for just a few hundred $$, and just take out all that they need and rebuild it if needed. Still pretty cheap that way.

New old guy
Another one within distance. Just on this forum a lone, there are a tone of people within a few hours distance, but I hardly ever see a Z car. The only kind that I see are 90's n/a 300 and 350z. [thumbdown] Only from time to time do I see an 80's 300, TT 300 or a 2-series. Welcome to the forum, and enjoy the lovely ride!

280z turbo
If you put money into your current motor, you are going to have to stick with it and keep it N/A. Performance cam, and turn it into a stroker. A turbo on this motor wouldn't be all that great with how it is built. You could have a tiny turbo with a small bit of pressure in there to get your power cranking out faster and basically be n/a up high. But whatever you do for speed, this can be extremely expensive. If you want to go turbo and keep the numbers, you would be best off picking up everything from a 280zx Turbo. Going to be pretty cheap, but hard to find and would most likely need a rebuild. Stock turbo pushes 8psi and is capable of 15psi with an intercooler. But if you don't care about the motor, an RB might be a better option. Though, if you want the same and maybe a little more power then an N/A L28 or a L28 turbo, you need to drop in a V8. These things are super cheap. You can get a tranny and 4.8L 300hp/300ft.lbs for roughly $1000 with EVERYTHING. Plenty of low end torque across the board, and plenty of power. Basically, if you put money into this motor, you had better keep it, but don't really plan on a turbo. From what I know, these motors are not idel to have a turbo on. You can get these things stroked out to 3.2L, get some carbs on it and be a killer N/A performer, but it does come at a price. Or, save your money on mods on the current motor to buy a different motor and swap it out. Will be much easier, less time consuming and save you a lot of money. I have an L24 that I hope to one day stroke, triple carb, and just trick it out, and with that kind of money, I could buy a Viper engine $6k and have it dropped in and still have some extra cash.

My first car and z, '73 240z.
My first car that I bought was my 1971 240z. Lovely cars and I know that I will be keeping this baby for a long time. I would say, get ride of that points distributor with an electric one. Will make the car run better, some say it gives you an HP increase, and makes the car more reliable. Then, Toyota 4x4 calipers for the front. Give you increased stopping power which is always good to have. Then a front and rear strut bar. There is a lot more that I would do to the car, but those are the three main things that I would do first. Love the car, and enjoy it as long as you can!

very hot pics of the Z
The cars facing each other, the older Z looks WAY better imo. Looks meaner, sportier, aggressive, muscular, and the 350 looks like a young over weight baby. Would we be able to get them in some different resolutions? I would like to make these as wallpapers. My monitor is 1440x900, but for others, 1024x768, 1280x1024, and 1600x1200 would be AWESOME. I have a 16x12 monitor in use that would be sweet to have those shots up on that too.

Chevy 250 or 400 for my 78?
I would pass it up. Having to be air cooled, I would not feel very comfortable with. I would imagine more problems caused then anything. I would wait for some other V8 to come a long. hybridz.org is the place for you, and you will find that you can drop any V8 into the Z, so you don't have to be specific when you are looking.

tuning for a new header?
Could be because you have no exhaust. How far does the exhaust go down or do you not have any system installed period? Your compression is probably lower then what it is supposed to be at, so idle will run a little rough and lower to.

Hey!!
Make sure that it is all clear of rust. If there is any rust, try and get that fixed first as this is the #1 enemy of the Z car. Check around the tires, engine bay, under the battery tray, a long the door rails, under the car, ect. Just look the car through and through several times. replacing the weather stripping would be a good idea. If you can post some pics and know issues so that you can be directed to what you need, sites for the parts, and tutorials for the given issues. Welcome to the club and enjoy. This is a great community here and you will learn a LOT for these guys.

Hello.
Pictures would be awesome!!! That is awesome though. Extremely low mileage. Seems like that car is still like it just came off the showroom floor. Don't have to worry about cosmetics. Wish I didn't as that is a deep money pit right there. How much did you spend on this and get these pictures up asap!!!

Skyline Engines
Don't forget the VQ series. Skyline still exists in Japan and is soon to be here in the US with a VQ engine just like everything else Nissan has. Then the SR is essentially an RB with 2 cylinders cut off.

What combo is good with 9 pound Flywheel?
From what I know that is auto only. Rev like crazy in neutral and when you are ready to go, drop the stick into drive. Doing manual shift in a traditional auto isn't good for the tranny in general. Though what I heard that you can do in a manual is skip 1st all together in a launch which is supposed to give you better launches but is bad for the transmission. There is a technique to it that I am not sure of how it works. But for what I have heard, light wheels are for autocross, heavy ones for drag racing so that they don't brake. I would just go with the standard wheel. Maybe 1lb lighter or so, but nothing major. If its a daily driver anything heavy or lighter may not be very fun.

Anything else for my suspension?
Will need to check out those bump stops and add those to the list. I already got a set of rack boots. My 240z has them and one was eaten through or something, so I got a set replacement. Brake hoses, I am going to try to get the ss lines if I can. I am redoing these completely and for the front I already have 4x4 calipers. Anything else that I will need?

Anything else for my suspension?

Finding old junkers
This is what I want. 5-Speed Tranny and a 4.11 diff. Now, the 1980zx is supposed to have the 5-speed tranny I am looking for, plus it comes with most of what I need for the swap into my 240z. So I am keeping my eyes out for this car that is all rusted up and costs me almost nothing. Try to save money this way. Is there anything else that I could use from this motor? Is there some kind of combo that I could use or just drop the L28 in there with the carbs and be good to go? Now for the 4.11. What kind of cars, models, and engine/tranny set ups did these appear in? See if I can find a cheap old junker of one of these. Could probably even make my money back by swapping things around, and make it look a little nicer. Even a junk yard would give me some of my money back if I get desperate or the cars are in too bad of shape. But I need to start stock pilling some parts here in TN. I have everything that I need out in cali except for springs to drive my car back out this way.

Awesome color
Well, this is the color that my Z car originally was. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971-DATSUN-240Z-72-000-MILES_W0QQitemZ220157584258QQihZ012QQcategoryZ6187QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Currently my car is blue and it is a really bad paint job that needs to be redone. Plus I have two surface rust issues that need to be taken care of before they cancer that will rein the current paint. I have been taking samples, pictures, and what not for colors that I like and might want to put on my Z. When I popped the hood of my Z car, the orginal paint still made up the engine bay and I had thought that the mustard yellow was nasty. Though after seeing that color there in its true form on ebay, that color is awesome! I might end up having to paint my car this color instead of the original dark gray/steel color with black pin stripes that I had in mind.

Thinking of selling !!
hmmm. I would say anywhere from $7k to $12k. Just sort of depends what kind of buyers you get. The ones who know, or the ones who don't. That is one nice Z though. Should go for a 84~86 z31 Turbo instead.

Preliminary pics of ZCON
Where is this show at? All those rides there have got to be sweet. Those s31 looks killer. Love my 240z, but I think that the s31's are taking my heart. Just to bloody expensive to do any type of work on them. :hurt:

LSD 3.54 gear ratio
I would rather go with a 3.9 or 4.11. That is what I am keeping my eye out for. Even thinking of getting an old rusted 1980zx cause I want that 5-Speed and I wouldn't mind settling for the 3.9, but I had rather get the 4.11. 1980zx 5-Speed w/ a 3.9 or 4.11 is the route I am going myself. Best for acceleration. Just taking advantage of the cars strong points, already having awesome handling, making it pull out of corners even harder will capitalize on the strength of the car.
