Found a 1984 300zx
Thanks for all that info. That car I would love to have. Barely any money and you get an insane amount of power in return. I really hope that this 300zx is a turbo. Even if it doesn't run, and the body is in good condition, I would rather spend that $500 for the car to sit in my yard as a future project car then to not know what its future is going to have somewhere else. Though if the thing does run, I wouldn't mind taking it around for a few spins every now and then. I would still finish my 240z car first before I get into the 300zx.

Found a 1984 300zx
Well soab. The guy called and said Saturday or Sunday will be better for him. So hopefully the guy comes through. Starting to wizz me off a little. So I will have pics and more information up on the weekend. Though I was thinking, for the 300, if it is a turbo, how much boost can a stock motor handle and can the turbo deliver with the help on an intercooler? Is it expensive to get this motor modified to handle more boost? The motor in the 90's 300zxtt, is it a direct swap with the 80's 300zx? If I got this 80's zx, I would want some massive power coming out those wheels. At least 300hp with a preferred 350hp, and I know that the VG30DETT will deliver. Just not sure if the VG30ET can deliver that sort of power or not.

Why would you want a 280?
I would love to have a 280z just to get the T-Tops and 2+2 setup. If the car doesn't have those features, then I would rather get the 240z any day.

My '72 240.....

Stock- Which is the quickest?
EFI better then any carb setup, , dude you are so funny!!!!!! They still use carbs in some of the most powerful motors that drag race, ect. I have a friend whos dad works on drag race cars and works on carbs a lot. The HP ratings on the 280 seem to be all over the place. From what I have read the 240z is 151hp, and when the 260 came out still on carbs the power was upped to 165hp. Though when the 280 came out, it was on EFI and it was down graded to 132hp for the first year and then went back up to 149hp the next year. Then the turbo came out and upped the power to 180hp. Basically, the 280z ended up getting hit with every single federal smog restriction because of the 70's gas crisis and is one of the reasons why EFI was added a long with many other emission control systems. Plus with the added weight of the 280's, only the 280z turbo is as fast as the 240z from what I have read.

Found a 1984 300zx
Change in plans. I am working a double today, but tomorrow I am not working at all, so at around 3pm I am going to be checking out the vehicles. So I will be updating with info/pictures later tomorrow.

Found a 1984 300zx
Man, looks so sexy. Yeah I am going to look this thing up and down. All that I know for it to run so FAR is a fuel pump. Even at $500, if all I need is a fuel pump to get 20,000 miles out of it, I am game. I would love to have this as a project car a long with my 240z. I love the Z series cars and these 80's 300zx's do seem to be just as hard to come by as the 240 that I got. Well will see though. The boss also has trucks (S10's, duallys, big work V8 trucks,), 60's through 90's mustangs, v8 camero's, ummm... Porsche 928, damn I forgot all that he has. I can take pictures of all and then post up here if anyone is interested.

Found a 1984 300zx
I am not sure if this 300zx is turbo or not, but I was wondering if the motors in the turbo model and the n/a model are exactly the same. No changes or anything. I am curious to know if this 300zx is an n/a if I could just strap on a turbo and not have to do a thing to the motor. Also, how much psi does the stock turbo push in the earlier models and how much psi can the turbo/engine handle? If this 300zx is a turbo, I am going to try and buy this sucker if there isn't too much that it needs done.

Found a 1984 300zx
Well, my boss was talking to me today about cars. He has sum 15 vehicles of all sorts. When he was talking to me, he said that he has a 1984 300zx w/ T-Tops. All I can remember him saying is that it needs interior, fuel pump and maybe (?) a steering column (?). I am going to have to find out the rest of the details when I check the car out. His price was only $500 I believe. All of his rigs are going for CHEAP because he has to get rid of them by the end of February. I am going Wednesday to go check out the car and I am going to take my camera to take some shots. If anyone is interested, just let me know. If you want certain shots I will try and get those. Zip Code of 37363 if anyone around is interested in purchase/pick up. I can get it and even hold on to it if needed for a little while. Though also don't forget, that I myself might pick up this sucker. Though something else might interest me also. Will have to see.

Which tires to get?
What size tire was stock on the 240z? 175/75? If so that would be 131.25cm tall correct? So should I be able to go 195/65 = 126.75cm in the front and 215/60 = 129cm in the rear? Would this be too low, or is this still safe to go? I think that I finally found a brand that will let me keep the same series tire for up front and for the rear as I am looking at different widths. Yokohama Avid series tire. I would like to have the same sized tires in the front as the rear (above 195), but I am not going to like the tires rubbing at all, so I figure that having two different sizes wouldn't hurt.

2007 South Florida Annual BBQ & Z Car Show
I dont even have my 240z done yet, and those shots are making me want to get a 90's 300zx TT so bad right now. Seems like it is going to be awesome. To bad I wont be there. :-P

Which tires to get?
Yeah, after thinking about it, I am not going to like the rubbing at all. 195's I think I will stick with. Though what do you think about me getting either 205's, 215's or 225's for the rear still?

Brakes, Brakes, Brakes, and More Brakes!!
Screw doing that. I think that will just stick with the non-drilled brakes instead. Saves me $80 anywho! :-)
-
Which tires to get?
Which Z do you have? ktm and I both have a 240z that are within a year apart. Mine 71' and his is a 72'.

Brakes, Brakes, Brakes, and More Brakes!!
In the Black Dragon Auto mag, are the crossed-drilled disc brakes any good and worth the extra few dollars? I think $160 for a pair. Or should I just go with the standard brakes that Black Dragon offers? My friend told me to not get aftermarket cross-drilled brakes and they crack, and I was not sure if those brakes are aftermarket cross-drilled or not. Brakes are almost out and I found that out the hard way. :surprised

Getting new suspension
Well, with the car sitting for so long the suspension was pretty shot. Are the struts and springs off of Black Dragon Auto any good? I am not sure what type I want right now, (more comfort, more performance or inbetween) but was curious to know if there was a brand/model to stay away from in the Black Dragon Auto mag.

Which tires to get?
That tire doesnt look too bad on there. I got the same 15-spoke rims on my 71'. Though in the rear, it looks like that the tire sticks out a bit. I might drop it down to the 215's of the same model instead, but we will see. Still looking around.
-
Which tires to get?
I myself was going to limit to 205 cause I heard that it is harder to steer going wider without power steering. But if you dont have a problem, I will consider those tires that you got. I have them here pulled up on www.tirerack.com and they sure look nice. Though do the 225's stick out from the car or are they still tucked in underneath?

Big, nasty bumpers
grumble grumble just delete this or whatever.....

Which tires to get?
Oh, that is where I did get confused. I had always thought that the second # was the hight #, not the ratio/percentage number. Thanks for the clarification. :classic: Sweet! I think I know which tire I am going to get then :-)

webers on ebay
Man:disappoin I am going to end up crying here. That is exactly what I am looking for and it is for a GREAT price. I could even have those get picked up instead of shipped. Why o why must my bank account be empty right now?

Which tires to get?
Well, I currently have 195/75 and they need to go. I want to upgrade the size to 205. Though to get a performance tire I would have to go 205/70. I really like how the 75's look on the Z, but what about 70's. Would this make it look weird at all? Show more of the wheel well and just make everything look sorta out of place? On my S10 I used to have like 70's on there, got new tires that are 60's, and now the tires look tiny and out of place. Though what I am looking at right now are 205/75 Standard Touring All-Season from Kumho 205/70 Performance All-Season from Yokohama 205/70 High Performance Summer Sumitomo Right now I am gearing more for the Yokohama because they offer much better warranty and they are a higher mileage tire then the Sumitomo. Though I am not sure if 70's will look ok or not, and if not I will probably get the Kumho's.

Smoked the motor in my 240Z... ;(
That sucks. Hope that you get it back up and running sometime soon! What sorta power is your Z pushing? On a track with those cars that you were with, would be nice to have a Z that can keep up with them.

Ummm... is this ok to do?
Now just out of curiosity, would brake/clutch fluid also be the same as atf too?
-
Ummm... is this ok to do?
Well in my friends Supra, his power steering has a leak in it and for some reason he is too lazy to fix it. He got a 1jz swap and there are a few problems with the new swap that he just wants to ignore, though we wont go there. Anyways, instead of fixing the problem (hose leak, easy fix), he is just topping off the power steering about 2 times a week. He has been using automatic transmission fluid. Now is this good or bad to use that fluid instead of the power steering fluid? He asked me what I used and if it was pink and I was like "dude, I have a bottle of power steering fluid at home and its brown" and sorta laughed at him. Then that was sorta the end of that talk. I am sorta wondering if me might end up f'ing up his entire power steering system if he keeps topping off with transmission fluid.
