My 240z against my buddies rides
Well I have some friends with some nice old school rides. N/A 84' Mazda RX7 N/A 88' Porsche 944 2.5L N/A 88' Toyota Supra 3.0L N/A 91' Mazda Miata 1.6L N/A 95' Mazda MX-6 2.5L (btw, all manual) I was wondering, how would my 240z compare to these other guys for 0 to 60 timings and then on the windy roads around here in Tennessee. I think that I would only loss out to the Supra for 0 to 60, but for around the corners, and the average speed that I would be able to keep around these corners, I am not sure how I would fair against the RX7, Miata and 944. Though I think that my only competition around the corners would be the 944 as it is light and has good power to push the car forward, while the Miata and the RX7 seem to push too little power even for their light weight. Not sure about that MX-6 though. What do you guys think?

2008 Z Looks more like early ?
I wish that Nissan would go back to an Inline-6 for their Z car. [sad]

First Time
Yeah, you will learn a lot. I am working on my 240z currently and have learned a lot of what to do and what not to do. There were somethings that I was going to do, even spend big $$ to do it, but then I look around here or ask a question and after the responses, I figure that I might as well save my money for something important. [] Have fun and learn a lot!!

Louvers
I would like to get the plastic but that is all I can find, unless the ABS are all plastic ones. All I can find are Rear Window Louvers, Aluminum, model years and Rear Window Louvers, ABS, model years So are all the ABS plastic? With the Aluminum I was afraid of all that extra weight of metal. If the ABS are plastic, will these go on pretty easy?

She's finally on the road...
Wow that looks awsome!!! Was the interior just as messed up as the outside? I was lucky enough to get a 240z in awsome condition with little work needed. Though the great thing about a car like yours, even though you have to wait 3 years to drive it, you get to build it from the ground up the way you want it. Do you do anything to it in the process or is it pretty much still a factory stock 240z? If you dont mind me asking, what did the grand total come too over the 3 years?

Exhaust Y or splitter
Where abouts in North Carolina do you live?

Louvers
Well, I want to get one for my rear hatch window. They look extremely nice and should keep the cabins temps down when parked. How much do these aluminum louvers weigh? Does anyone have the side window louvers? I am thinking that I might get a pair but am not sure how they look. Any one got a Z with these side window ones on that have a link?

Spark plug wires
Yeah, I will get the nkg plugs and wires. Got me right before I placed an order. Sorta rethinking a few things that I am now not going to get and a few things that I am going to get instead. Also gotta to call to see if I can get a head and place an order for some hoses. Do you have a model # or link for the ignition kit? I am going to wait to do this when the car gets home, but I would like it for future reference as I am currently making a list of future upgrades.

Spark plug wires
What about Bosch Wires and Plugs? Would it hurt to use these the first 10,000 miles or so with the first 3,000 miles being a cross country road trip? If I get NGK plugs, should I get the fancy ones or are the standard ones just fine too?

synchronize carburetors
Well in my 240z, the biggest and most important thing that I gotta do under the hood is synchronize my carbs. The engine still runs, but of course doesnt run as good as it can. Over at BlackDragonAuto I found a synchronizor tool for $30 I think. Is this a tool that I could use? I know nothing about how to do this and my brother who has even rebuilt his own carb doesnt know how to do this. Is this a tool that basically dummies can use to get everything running correctly?

Anti-Sway bars
oh sweet! Thats a nice price cut right there. :-) Would it be worth the $230 I would put into them?
-
Anti-Sway bars
Well, I was thinking about these a few days ago to put onto my stock 240z one day in the near future. I thought that these things were going to be no more then $200 and I was going to purchase them when I get out in California to pick up my Z. Well, looking over at Black Dragon, a set costs $430!!! :tapemouth Is getting the set worth it for a stock 240z that is going to be recieving mild modifications in its lifetime with me? Will I see any major handling differences compared to stock? Or should I just spend that $430 on something else?

Shifting on 240z 4-Speed
I know on newer cars, you really dont need to rev match when shifting. But for the 240z being a 71' when I start driving this puppy around, do I need to pay a little more attention to rev matching when I am am putting around or doing a little speeding? It had just crossed my mind today when I got to ride in my buddies new Supra 1JZ TT conversion from his old stock 3L.

Ford engine swap?
Right now I am keeping my 240z stock for some while, but that isnt going to stop me from looking around at some V8 powerplants. [smile] I have mainly been looking at LS1 engines, but have not looked over at the 5.0L and 4.6L V8's from Ford that are found in the Mustangs. Can these engines fit in there without having to do any unnessicary work? They dont push as much power as the LS1 does, but it is still a lot of power for almost half the cost. Plus I am thinking with this, I might be able to find some aftermarket supercharger and for the same price as an LS1 and get even closer to 400hp. Plus I am thinking about front/rear weight ratio and if the Mustang engines might be lighter than the LS1. Anyone know a site that does Ford conversions. All I can find are LS1 conversions and LS1 how to sites.

Dash fix
Sweet, that is cool that things thing are actually very nice. Another $100 into the interior. [cool] Now I have three cracks that are above the center guages. When I order and get the dash cover installed, should I fill in the cracks with some kind of crack filler? If so what should I use? Or should I just leave them the way that they are?

Dash fix
Well, I ordered my catalog from Auto Dragon a few days ago. Once it gets here, I am going to be highlighting parts that I am going to purchase and get shipped out to California. I was looking through their .pdf catalog and noticed that they had dash cover replacements. Now I have three cracks on my dash and I would like them fixed, though it isnt a must need. Though I am wondering if these glue on dash replacement things are any good. Good quality, not noticeable after installation, does it make the dash look weird and all the dash componets look like they are going more into the car?

Fuel?
Well, I know that this engine runs on 87 octane. Would there be any advantage if I put in 89 or 93 octane? I am just wondering if the engine prefers to drink a higher octane fuel compared to 87 octane.

Short throw
In my 240z, it has the 4-Speed manual and I am going to keep it that way. Would a short throw shifter be worth it for this vehicle and tranny?

Tail of the Dragon
I live over in Chattanooga. About an 1hrs distance away from the Dragon. Whenever my friend goes over there which is fairly often he says there are police, but even when he is going 10 or 15 over, they still just site there and dont go after him. Plus when I have been in the area and on the Dragon myself, I have never seen police. Semi drivers are stupid if they travel that road. If they are using it for a shortcut or even to show of their own skill with a semi, they need to go elsewhere.

how many made 240z
The Original color of my 240z was a mustard yellow. It has sense then been repainted and it is a blue color now.

Tail of the Dragon
Anyone ever raced on the Tail of the Dragon? Whether you live around here (could meet up sometime) or if you were driving through. You guys should check it out. Windiest road in North America. 11 miles long with over 300 corners plus with a lot of side roads that are just as good. These adventures are found were the North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee boarders meet. Racers from all over the world, even nascar/F1 type racing drivers come to travel this road and love it. Its nice because along this road, as you long as you arnt going crazy the cops dont care if you are speeding. They are just there incase an accident happens, there will be someone there and let other drivers know.

240z Block power?
Even though like 200hp to 250hp may not seem that much, with the car only weighing it at 2300lbs, it should do a LOT to performance coming up from 150hp.

What about something like this
For the stock Carbs on a 1971 240z? http://shop.knfilters.com/KNShop/Product.aspx?pid=56-1703&cat=Custom+Assemblies Those may not be exactly what I would get, but I am just looking around. Any ideas are welcome. I dont care if I dont get any extra power out of it, but do you think that I might and possibly how much? Whenever I get a triple carb kit, I will still use these for that and just buy one more of these and stick them on.

First Tune Up!!!
No suggestions? I already know companies that I would use for these products, but I am just looking for suggestions on what companies are the bomb for z's and which companies to stay away from. Like there might be a good overall company, but for stock zcars, they are a no no. So this type info would be good to know. Plus the tire thing I would really love to know, though I know that it can be sorta hard without actaully looking at the tires/rims. These might help for some old school/diehard owners/knowers.

What is this?
Cool. I will throw two of these onto my list. I looked over and email the Zman over at www.zspecialties.com to see what he has and the prices. As of now it looks like I am going to be getting my interior (carpet, padding, seat covers) from this guy. I asked him how much the steering rack boot costs and he said that they are $55. Why would he charge $30 more then Dragon Auto? Zman claims that some parts are replicas, speacail made and high quality which include these boots. Is this the same for Dragon Auto?
